The 6g72 has made 1600whp before. Documented on TH-cam. They're stout motors, they were just never super high powered from the factory for insurance reasons. They could've easily gave that thing 500 horsepower reliably.

2 years ago I bought a 2007 Aveo sedan with a 5 speed manual and 180,000 miles for $500. Only reason I bought it was to see if a $500 car was still a usable car or if it was only good enough to take to a junk yard after I beat on it on my property. Surprisingly it still ran and drove good and was fun to rev match the shifts. It just wasn't in the best cosmetic condition. I sold it after owning it for a month to a guy who is still drives it to work.

I had a 94 3000gt SL manual in the same red. Official specs on it we're 0-60 in 5.9 seconds from c/d. The car was lightweight and quick for 225 hp. The materials were high quality on the interior for the time. No hard plastics anywhere and the stereo was amazing. The exhaust was insane, with more flex pipe than some supercars of the era. All around a great car that i regretted parting with.
Everyone that i let drive that car thought i had added a turbo because it was so torquey off the line.0

Guys! With the 3000GT, you are testing a 25 year old car, based on a 32 year old design. Technically an antique! It's bound to have some wear such as the sloppy shifter. I agree the base model was just for the looks. I had a 91 VR-4 and then a 95 VR-4 both fantastic state of the art, reasonably reliable and quality cars for the time. Plus the VR-4 was an incredible performance bargain, especially the 91. All the performance of an NSX at 1/2 the price. Add to that the all season capability with the AWD. PS it was 2+ years ahead of the Mark 4 Supra. Although the Supra did eclipse the performance by a bit and was much bigger in the aftermarket, I still went for the 95 VR-4 at the time.

My best friend had a Dodge Stealth and even though it was a non turbo FWD one, it was still fun to kick around and I still think these are good looking. They’re heavy and don’t handle well, but it’s a GT car. It’s literally in the name. It’s a great highway cruiser. Also, 220hp wasn’t a slouch in the 90’s. 4.6L Mustang had less HP.

Dude your knowledge of the 3000GT if so unimpressed. First of all that's not the very lowest base model that's the 220 horsepower 3.0 L dual overhead cam motor, the base model is a single overhead cam motor and has a completely different intake manifold and only has 160 horsepower then you have the the SL which has 210 horsepower 3.0 DOHC and has active suspension & exhaust then the GTO/VR4 equiped twin turbo active Aero and active exhaust at 310-320 HP (depending the staet it's purchased in) point being man do a little more research Before You by Sheck are the only reason that car is not worth what a super is worth is because of the movie The Fast and the Furious in the only reason the Supra was the main car is because the special effects supervisor said he couldn't do the stone at the end of the first movie with the Stealth TT because of the roof not being Target op and offered his Supra before that movie they were both valued at about the same after the movie the Supra skyrocketed because of the movie that's just a fact in the car that was used in the interlude that connected the first and second movie was originally supposed to be the star car which was then made Paul Walker's personal car in the movie. Get your s#¡t together

How dare you not like the 3000gt albeit it isn't a vr4, and $6500 is too much. And after 95 they started taking off the cool stuff and it's hard to find a good one anymore and you have to get the vr4, I almost had one in high school until I found out I needed a second loan for the insurance but I will have one eventually a 94-95 vr4 with all the good stuff and no pop up headlights which I know it's crazy but I don't like, and they suck to work on, no space in the engine bay, shoulda gonna with a straight six like most others, but still awesome, and if you get the dodge version you get the awesome banana spoiler. I'd go ahead if it had a just cuz I'm in Phoenix and I'd pay $1200

The only reason someone buys a 3000GT is because they cannot afford any other 90's hero sports car. It has no advantages. It's fat, slow, uncomfortable, feels cheap, and is unreliable. All those cool features you might list, like active aero or 4 wheel steering? None of that works on the car you might find for sale. If it does miraculously work when you go to test drive it, rest assured it will be broken in the next 5,000 miles.

Nailed the 3000gt. Designed to appeal to children and most of them are slow AF. Just an ugly car with very little to be happy about. Unless you get the unicorn version... and if that unicorn will even wants to run.
The Aveo? Pure, unadulterated trash car. Which makes it awesome to beat the crap out of. I imagine there are a lot of people who had one as their first car. And that makes it special.

Brendan must have had a bad experience with a Mitsubishi somewhere along the line. He was really nit picking a bunch of piddly things that are easy repairs. That car was in really good shape and with only 80K miles it would be a great daily driver. Mitsubishi makes great engines and powertrains....they would over-design with goofy gizmos and "boy racer" add-ons, though. I must say, he goes for some real oddball POS's sometimes that I wouldn't look twice at.

And Tommy is right about his complaints. I've owned several econobeaters over the past 20 years to do yeoman's work. This is the worst of them all in materials quality, but I don't buy a hammer based on the quality of the grip finish.

I almost bought a new Chevy Aveo around Thanksgiving 2004 as a commuter car and it was actually MORE expensive than the new Chevy Cavaliers that were on the dealer lot right next to them - I drove away with a brand new base model automatic 2005 Cavalier coupe for $9,350 OUT THE DOOR with little negotiation whereas the Aveo would have been over a grand more... Ugly⁉️ The 3000GT was named best looking car of the year (1991) and out sold the other Japanese cars COMBINED‼️ while costing more‼️ So you're obviously talking just to hear yourself speak.
The Eclipse was modeled off the 3000GT.
As for maintenance. It's a VERY reliable car, however 3000GT owner's over the years were terrible maintainers.
This car has a STRICT maintenance schedule. If you want a cheap hard as nails to break version, buy the SOHC version. It was so reliable it ran without oil for nearly 2days.
If you want the SL or VR4 have a repair budget and do Service A and Service B, 5k-10k miles in advance. Even with new oils, change the filter every 3k miles and never go beyond a 5k mile oil service.
Respect the 3000GT VR4 and Galant VR4 as both pushed car technology and were 30yrs ahead of there time.

  • @Moulin13
    @Moulin13 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

The 3000GT gauges can't be Fast & Furious inspired because they made this car way before than that movie, also this isn't a base model, the 1998 Base came with a SOHC 3.0L, even though is not a VR4 this was a expensive car back then, the built quality was there but the lack of proper maintenance made these unreliable, the only thing I agree with Brendan is that those Auto transmissions sucked that's for sure...
