I'm not surprised they went with the Conrail Quality markings, to differentiate it from Norfolk Southern's Conrail heritage unit. (CSX has actually sometimes used that unit as well!) I do like it, especially because Conrail used to run in my area, and it's part of the half CSX acquired, but here they're all local freights. (The Conrail freights used GP38-2s (with regular Conrail markings) and B23-7s (with Conrail Quality markings), and the CSX freights here all use GP40-2s.)
I remember Conrail very well (I was born the year before Conrail was born), and loved seeing it while growing up (I grew up just outside of Indianapolis). The line that runs between Indianapolis and Louisville (the oldest rail line in the state, 1847) is owned by Louisville and Indiana (Anacostia and Pacific) currently owns the line, although between CP Dale and MP 4 is CSX ownership. It's a former Pennsy line. Louisville and Indiana has paid hommage to the Pennsy: their current paint scheme is Tuscan red with the solid yellow band, with a slight modification of including a current symbol of tribute to veterans. Also, at CP Dale (former active interlocking tower location for the Belt) there are still two Pennsy position signals. The one facing South is a Frankensignal.
It's great to see CSX trying to improve the image of the freight train after 12 months of less than ordinary coverage! Along with their new heritage scheme engines they've done a lot of repaints as well. Great catch Dave and in the shite weather! 🚂😎😎😎😎😎😎😎🚂

No one will ever mistake this for unit 8099.THe standard was set back in 2012 & has yet to be matched.How can you tell what this thing is coming the track when all it says is CSX?I like the fact that Norfolk Southern did not go halfway & just quit at that.
Um dude..8099 is NS's Southern HU, not their Conrail one. Conrail is 8098. Other than that, I completely agree, I hate the CSX units besides the Seaboard since it looks like the YN2 scheme and that's one of my favorites! Regardless, CSX needs to paint the noses, they look very ugly with their current jobs.
Unfortunately no. sometimes I just go to a spot and wait and just film whatever comes by, or other times someone up the line will tell me something is coming my way, in which I'll have a general idea of when it will come. It would be really nice if they had a website schedule like Amtrak haha!
