April Fools 2011: Complex Numbers in Math Class
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 30 มี.ค. 2011
- Yesterday afternoon I did another video trick for my Nature of Math class at Biola University. What's the difference between the real and the imaginary? Can an imaginary person (like a person in a TH-cam video) do something outside the confines of a video box?
See the instructions at the end for another version of this question.
Thanks again to Andrew Staver who did most of the work on this video. He's graduating this semester with a degree in Film Production from the Cinema and Media Arts department.

I love how insulted he was about being opened in Explorer. Honestly, I'd be insulted too.

@@z98i87 Zach was actually his student way back in 2010 or 2011

Wow, Didn't expect that
10 years later, it's still one of my favorite prank videos.

_oh yeah, this is big brain time_
you must've been practicing very much for the timing
great job! Using humour is a great way to engage students!
I'm a freshman in College and seeing stuff like this makes me so excited to be a teacher. It really gives me the motivation while studying
Teachers at schools should do this we would all learn something then
I love these videos! Your students are extremely lucky to have you for a teacher.
No we don't do Ctrl+W
we use Alt+F4 to interact
Do command + Q for the same result
Minecraft
"I feel like the imaginary part"
When I first started college I wanted to be a math teacher and do things like this so that my students would be interested and want to learn! (but I changed my major)
I'm not going to be a teacher anymore
@@jaypritchett6846 did you start a closet company instead?
Frei no, I changed to Marriage and Family Studies
@@jaypritchett6846 good luck
You're amazing, what you do is sheer genius from a students perspective to help lighten the mood in a classroom setting! I hope your students appreciate it as much as I did.
Teacher of the year ^^
i don't know if anyone noticed that it was reference to "real" and "imaginary" numbers or something...not good at math though
Casey Meeko yes, it was!
This is what I came to the comments looking for, to see if anyone recognized the irony of an imaginary professor presenting imaginary numbers. Very complex. 😂
VERY clever teaching method!!
Well done, this might be one of the most important things for teaching: intelligent and challenging humor!
You really one of the most interesting and funny math professors I have ever seen!!
Wow, what a great teacher! Knowledge and fun at the same time.
Just superbly brilliant. His students are so lucky to have him. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The end of it..."Hold down your CTRL key and type W" xdxdxd
he could told us to straight alt+F4 too!
@@karigori6415 alt f4 is obvious
What does ctrl+w do??
10 years later, still gold and amazing👍✨✨ what a legend👍✨✨✨
CTRL+W hahahahaha
Oh, I'm working on this in math right now. This is both entertaining and educational
How it is educational
that was REALLY impressive!! posting it everywhere!
if only I had teachers like this. Great job!!!!
this is a guy who loves his job we need more teachers like him.
you're awesome
I love you videos man! Great work and fun to watch. I wish some of the math-teachers I've had could have done soemthing like this.
Magnus - Norway
We all wish we could have teachers like this! Teachers that makes learning fun!
The most entertaining mathematics teacher ever.
Man, I wish my math teachers did stuff like that. Love the videos, they always make me laugh. ^^
You're the best teacher of all time.
On the contrary. He's the perfect teacher! We need more professors like him.
We need more lecturers like these....
You have a top funny prank video I have never seen
So amazing with the 1911 music thing turned on
Too awesome :D
P.S. I'm probably late but DO NOT HIT CTRL + W, because it'll *close your browser*!
Yes, if you only have one tab open, it'll close you're browser, but if you have multiple open, it'll only close the one that's open. Random tip that I really like: Ctrl+Shift+Tab and Ctrl+Tab will cycle through tabs.
***** HAH, that's embarrassing. Well, I am human, so I won't fret over it for long. Good eye, friend.
If anyone do that from a browser with multiple tabs, simply hit Ctrl+Shift+T to bring the tab back.
Correction (I know it's already been stated by the other commenters but *shrug*) cmd or Ctrl + w doesn't close your browser it just closes your browser tab (unless of course you only have 1 tab open)
***** *shrug*
I want to have a teacher like you those other kids are lucky
this... is... pure... awesomeness.....
wow... such a passionate lecturer... i wish i have one in my uni.
Math is all about finding a use for it :) If you find it, and are able to connect it to something, it ends up being ... rather easy. Having fun while learning it is key as well :) So great job mr. teacher.
*sigh* gonna need to fix the 4th wall again...
I am just completely blown away
More teachers like this please!
I absolutely love these videos. Maybe I can try (in time) to create one for a Geology class. I love using technology and I have access to Adobe Premiere Pro for editing. Thank you for the great idea and keep up the enthusiastic job!
Did you do it? How'd it go?
wonderful lecture and wonderful idea
Thanks for the CTRL + W trick
He almost got me with the CTRL + W, but I'm glad that I know *most* of the keyboard shortcuts
You, my friend, are a Genius!!! awesome!
wow there's a new sound when you press ctrl+w
lmfao Ctrl+W... good one ;)

Why can't all teachers be this cool? They don't have to be techie or anything; they just have to enjoy teaching and the students would follow.
