Yeah, it takes about ten years for HIV to progress to AIDS, and life expectancy is on average one to two years after that. So unless Justin was sharing needles or having unprotected sex at the age of six, I call bullshit on this storyline. But even so, he didn’t exhibit any symptoms until like RIGHT before he dies, and his symptoms were nowhere near as horrific and bad as they actually are when you have end-stage AIDS. My main gripes are how badly and inaccurately they portray HIV/AIDS and how they totally lost the opportunity to show how being HIV+ isn’t a death sentence in the 21st century. They just went for the shock factor.
For me, the most unbelievable aspect of the show was that we suppose to believe that all main characters are "friends": they almost don't talk or spend time with each other outside of shitty situations and only thing that really connects them is being part of a murder cover up.
I think it's probably similar to the friendships made during war. Apparently, those bonds are really strong because they've been through so much shit together
"friends" but Zach is an absolute wreck the whole season and none of them (but Alex) gives a shit, just because he doesn't want to be a part of their stupid plans. Their "friend" got in a car accident, was about to rape a drunk girl and all they could say was "do better"... yeah they're pretty close huh
I couldn't help but cringe when he was talking to his therapist about seeing the passed out girl and thinking about s*x with her. That whole scene was way out of character for Clay and after that episode I decided it wasnt worth the watch anymore
They did the same shit with Zack when he was about to have sex with a drunken woman. I guess they are trying to say all men are rapist or something lmao
Well done for getting that far. I didnt make it through the first episode. I decided I was too old to get it until I seen gen Zers having the same criticisms as me.
I'm really let down by my own time in high school. Nobody died, people didn't go to prison, nobody blew up a car or do any of the stupid shit shown in the show.
The idea that Winston would care AT ALL about what happened to Monty is so absurd to me. Like, Monty literally committed a hate crime against him. I don’t think he’d be forgiving him (let alone being “in love” with him) anytime soon.
Ikr!!! Winston only hooked up with him for like 7 minutes. Why the hell is he so obsessed about finding out the truth? If i hooked up with a guy whom i later found out to be a complete dirtbag, i wouldn't give a rat's ass about what happened to him in prison.
and also like it doesn't change anything like Monty was in prison for raping Tyler not for killing Bryce and he was killed for being a rapist so like finding the truth doesn't change or fix or bring justice for anyone.
Veronica Gagliardi Yes Monty was a bastard, trust me you won’t see me arguing that point, but that still doesn’t make what Clay and company did *okay* in the slightest. They still protected a murderer by pinning it on someone who didn’t even commit the crime, still lied to the cops, ultimately corrupting the investigation process by giving them false information, and they all do this for Alex despite him previously being willing to let Clay take the fall for him just so he will be in the clear. The idea that what they did is fine because the victims of their actions were assholes who deserve it seems counterintuitive to the whole plot of the show. Were we not supposed do things like protecting our friends when they commit a crime? Wasn’t that the whole reason why Bryce’s inner circle were wrong for protecting him to save their hides? Tell me, would Bryce’s rapes be justified then if his victims were assholes? I think we both know the answer to that question, NO. If Bryce should’ve been exposed then so should Alex. It’s wrong to cover up for criminals, even if they’re your friends, when they commit a crime, no matter how horrible the victim of the crime might be, that doesn’t make their actions any less wrong.
Miss Steak i feel like winston cared so much was because he saw the soft side of monty, and was with him that night, which is why i think he wanted to uncover the truth
On the subject of Justin's storyline, it might have been more effective had they shown him contracting AIDS symptoms earlier than they did. Not to mention that it takes up to ten years to die from AIDS, not after a few years. It seems to be only inserted for shock value alone. The message seems to be "Everyone can learn from their mistakes, except for Justin, who dies from his", after becoming a better person.
Honestly yeah. We are so lucky that treatment for HIV and AIDS has advanced that most ppl with HIV who live in countries with access to medication live perfectly healthy lives. It makes zero sense how Justin progressed that quickly. It shows how careless the makers of this show are. Someone on twitter said the storyline set conversations about AIDS 30 years back and well that’s a little dramatic I have to agree
Right, and also most everyone else faces zero consequences for many mistakes they make while putting in absolutely zero effort to make up for them, while they purposefully have Justin spending over half the show working past that part of his life and improving himself just to say “nvm fuck you” at the last second
It was so random too like he was fine the whole time. It felt almost like the writers sat down and said look guys we didnt do any big twists this season the story gets more boring and repetitive how bout we kill justin off Ok but how does he die in a car crash No, oh remember that we made him a drug addict Uhh yeah How bout he dies from late stage aids because he shared needles Omg thats brilliant thats why u are the head writer jack thats our man Or how else am i supposed to imagine how that conversation went
They try so hard to make gay characters and portray that “It’s ok to be gay” and then makes every gay character kiss every guy they’re friends with. Totally unrealistic.
Shira Shows i think it’s good to have Lgbt+ characters, for representation, just not the way they portray them. Being gay is now a personality and a character for these shows and the issue lies with the improper portrayal of the Lgbt+ community.
I don’t understand why seemed to make all the male characters sex offenders? Like I understand Bryce’s character highlighting rape and sexual assault, but why did they make Clay admit wanting to have sex with a passed out girl? And why did they have a scene where Zach nearly raped an-almost-passed-out escort? It just seemed so unnecessary and weird....
It's disgusting how they trivialize it as an everyday occurrence that men do. YES! It CAN be, but the men are not punished. "Do better" like wtf what the f
This season has an annoying habit where when they want to humanize an awful character, they make them gay. Oh, Monty sodomized Tyler with a wooden broomstick? He's gay! Look at him dance with Winston one last time. Oh, Alex threw a crippled Bryce into the water and watched him drown then got away with it? He's bi! Dating Charlie and everything. Oh, this Aryan-looking cop turned Liberty High into a police state, bugged everyone's phone, and made the student body think they were all gonna die in a school shooting? He's got a black husband! He's not such a bad guy. Meanwhile, in the Valentines and Prom Dance scene, about 98% of the couples in the background look like they're opposite sex.
and then the one lesbian defended a rapist and basically left the cast after the second season and also never had any love interest just a no homo moment with hannah. the home of phobia.....
I’m so amazed by their profound ignorance. Like...you can just google this stuff. Obviously it would be better to you know actually talk to people living with HIV, but if they weren’t gonna put effort in they could still pull google up on their phone
I just hate the fact that the writers used HIV and AIDS as a way to kill off a character. People with HIV and AIDS are real people and this is disrespectful to them. If the writers let Justin live with HIV (not giving him AIDS) and used this as a way to promote getting tested more often and safer sex practices, it would have been more meaningful. It could have been a good way of eliminating the stigma of being diagnosed with HIV or AIDS. But since they ran out of time, they did not even bother to research facts about HIV and AIDS.
I’m surprised that people don’t talk about the shooting episode more. They could have provided some important social commentary about how traumatizing it is and what the recovery process is like. Instead Diego starts yelling about how he wants to be a hero which actually puts his team at greater risk of being found by the shooter, and he even challenges Justin to risk his life if he really loves Jessica. So when he does, and they start making out, the shooting doesn’t become a traumatic event, it becomes a romantic backdrop to their love story. No one knew it was a drill at the time so the fact that everyone’s still so focused on their social lives rather than survival at that moment is kind of concerning.
Glee and American Horror Story both had great school shooting episodes that, to me, set the standard for how to portray such an event. I have huge issues with both shows overall, but their school shooting scenes were really well done. 13 Reasons Why's school shooting episode doesn't hold a candle to Glee and AHS's, for all the reasons that you stated and more.
I actually disagree. I think the shooting episode was really well done, but you’re right. Diego’s and Justin‘s actions were stupid and quite unrealistic, but I don’t feel it overshadowed the rest of the episode.
elrapido5150 // i agree with AHS but the glee one was weird due to the fact that they all had their ringers on while trying to text their parents. that was extremely stupid to me.
I'm glad you shouted out Charlie. He was easily one of the best parts about this season. Amongst a bunch of miserable, awful characters, it was refreshing to have a seemingly well adjusted, generally positive, and supportive character. Edit: Wow a couple years have gone by and I just now saw how many people liked this comment. Glad people agree.
I was so upset about Justin. I liked what they did with his development and his relationship with Clay. I know that everyone can't have a happy ending, but I wanted Justin to have one.
The killed Justin just to make this season somewhat memorable. HIV takes 10-20 years to develop to aids and then another 2 years to die if you don’t take no medication. It was a cheap gimmick to add shock value
Well it did a good job of showing he can act at least. But they can't do redemption properly. They kill someone or make them gay. Despite trying to run around saying death isn't the answer. Lol
Arguably, Justin deserved a happy ending more than anyone else lol. Producers knew this and said, "lets make this most fucked up to end this with a bang."
I kinda feel bad for Dylan Minnette because he puts a lot into his performance and in a better show Clay's arc could be very meaningful and heartbreaking.
@@RetroIsaac that’s true, but he does worse than others in the show. there’s a definite lack of effort on his part as well, i don’t think he’s just incapable
All the show's hallucinations are unintentionally funny because instead of them being images in Clay's traumatised mind the show treats them like actual supernatural ghosts haunting him.
I laughed so hard with the hallucinations. They cracked me up. When Monty just tackles Clay on the prison, and when Bryce just starts spewing bugs, lmao it was too funny.
i love how in 13rw the fights are shown as these dramatic events with the crowds gasping when in reality everyone would be recording and laughing and cheering and chanting "fight!" over and over again lol
Season 1: A little problematic and controversial, but decent one off mini series. Season 2: Not wholly necessary, but alright conclusion. Season 3: Wait, when did this show become "Riverdale 2.0"? Season 4: WHAT IS ACTUALLY GOING ON WITH THIS SHOW ANYMORE?! 🤯
Yeah if I’m being honest I didn’t think season 1 was extremely terrible, like the other seasons. Season 3 is legit the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life.
Actually, season 1 and 2 were extremely problematic on the account that they raised teen suicide. What's worse is, they literally brought a specialist on the show, and still went against them. This show is just pure evil tbh.
I agree. The show after season one is beyond what the premise of the show (and the original book) was even about. Why is it still called 13 Reasons Why?
Not to mention Justin couldve very easily recovered from aids. He was only diagnosed with it days before he died, and even so with modern medicine it's not common for you to die of HIV especially at his age
Didn't the Jensens know he was a sex worker when he was homeless? I would think they would have gotten him tested which would have revealed he had HIV so he could be treated. In other words, Justin's death was 100% avoidable.
@@GAshoneybear the Jensens knew he was homeless, but not that he was a sex worker - im pretty sure he only told Jessica in s3, and then the Jensen's found out when Justin was in the hospital.
@@mimi-xx idk i remember clay being shocked and looking at his parents like "you knew!". so they probably knew about it before he was hospitalized and didnt get him tested, which isnt surprising given they suck at parenting.
We see how the show about the reasons for the suicide of one girl turned into a cheap criminal soap Opera about rapists. I would have finished at least on season 2. At least it has some finality. (if you cut out the moment with Tyler) After all, at the time of the 2nd season of the show was somehow connected to Hannah, and now I watched next 2 seasons... Saga about "Bryce Walker"
They definitely should've ended it at season 2 (omitting what happened to Tyler). Or at least made season 3 about everyone recovering from their trauma and moving on and then ending it instead of the Bryce and Monty death.
@@sydnitheromantictaylor112 a third season and maybe fourth season about a school dealing with a school shooting would've made much more sense and kept in line with the first two seasons
There is ONE (1) regard in which 13 Reasons Why actually kept improving. As it became less self important and more of a crappy teen drama, it stopped inciting real, vulnerable viewers to end their lives. The series has clearly gotten worse and worse, but it's also stopped killing real people, so maybe that means it's actually gotten better and better and has become what it was always supposed to be: a harmless, overly melodramatic, young adult teen drama that takes itself way too seriously but says nothing about the teenage experience.
no...the way it takes on real world issues like school shootings, mental illness, sexual assault IS harmful to young audiences bc it dramatizes and romanticizes these subjects
Ok so which one is it. Who has died because of the series? Is there some articles abt that, I’d like to see. I agree that the series is terrible but for I dont think it romanticizes for example rape for teenagers. Yes it depicts it in a dramatic way but nah i dont think anyone thinks rape is cool or anything else it isn’t
@@Bama489according to the National Institute of Health, "The Netflix show “13 Reasons Why” was associated with a 28.9% increase in suicide rates among U.S. youth ages 10-17 in the month (April 2017) following the shows release, after accounting for ongoing trends in suicide rates, according to a study published today in Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry."
Let's not forget that the actor playing Justin is gay in real life, so HIM having AIDS out of all characters is... a choice. But yeah with Alex it was complete bullshit.
Has anyone figured that Clay's decaying mental state probably has a lot to do with the fact that the kid never sleeps? He spends damn near every school night sneaking out to investigate or get into shit. Seriously, what is Liberty High at this point? It seems like the writers decided that what the characters went through in season 1 wasn't enough. They have to see every single issue that kids today face, all at the same time. The graduates practically deserve a medal. They went to class a few times, and survived bullying, fighting, almost killing or actually killing each other, a serial r*pist, multiple criminal conspiracies and cover ups, hard drug usage, school shooting, sleep deprivation, and shitty parenting.
I think if they wanted to cover so many topics (rape, suicide, prejudice, school shootings, etc) they should have done different stories. Like the suicide/bullying could have been Hannah Baker, and school shootings could have been a completely different school. Like every season changed schools, no reoccurring characters. Kinda like Black Mirror, except full seasons instead of episodes
@@jiannav5979 yeah sheri literally just vanished even though she was apart of the tapes lol. marcus and courtney also kind of vanished and so did the girl who burned the photos. IK marcus and courtney graduated, but they never mentioned it and just kinda got written off lol.
Well they mentioned that they lost 3 students at the graduation. So I guess that’s Hannah, Justin, and Jeff. But technically they lost Bryce and Monty too. So that doesn’t make sense...
It's so clear that they sidelined Ani because the backlash against her character that happened last season. She's far from a good character and I didn't like her, but I feel really sorry for the actress. Sge was hit the most by the backlash and what Netflix did is basically validate shitty fans and their opinions.
She could’ve been a great character until they had her hook up with Bryce multiple times knowing that he was a repeat rapist and trying to brush it off as “we were just two kids in a house alone.” Like it just felt no where in character for her since she was smart and made the dumbest decision
Shitty fans? Well, that's what you get when you decide in S3 to take everything that was good about the show & throw it out the window & then create a character that wasn't necessary & have that character played by someone who can't act
It's actually so horrible that just because the writers couldn't be bothered to write her a better story arc/dialogue, the actress basically got punished for it. I think she quit social media bc of the harassment she got :/
Agree. I can't believe he was pointing gun at people so many times and never had to face any consequences. -_- Btw why do you write "black" with a capital B?
Things that didn’t make sense to me about this season: The funeral not being consistent in every episode Zach going off the deep in for no particular reason? And did not get better? He knew he didn’t kill Bryce...so why? Alex was the one that killed Bryce and he BARELY had any scenes of him feeling guilt over that. It mainly focuses on his relationships and figuring out he’s gay. Like why make him the killer if he doesn’t even care? The random moments of clay hallucinating things that didn’t happen. Why is he the one freaking out? He didn’t do anything to Bryce. Why is he the one going crazy making himself look even worse? Making Tyler look suspicious for no reason? Entire episodes with random things going on like a camping trip and parties? Making clay and Zach seem like they have rapist tendencies? Killing off Justin for literally no reason and so quickly just so the other characters mad about Monty’s death would back off leading to 0 consequences and threats for nothing? The crazy wreck just to lead to minor bruises and no cops involved? The gun dealer guy shooting at nobody? Bringing Monty’s sister into the picture none other than a date for Tyler? It’s like the writers just called riverdale and was like hey give us writing advice?
Also why kill monty and bryce if they gonna bring them back as ghosts that haunt only clay? I mean sure they were pieces of shit but why kill them if u keep on using them why not just let them live and be like ok they are in prison now and clay is paranoid because he thinks they will some day come free and hunt him or something why not do that instead of killing them off. Also what doesnt make sense to me is monty was like a day in prison and the writers are like well …we cant use him anymore apperantly so how about we dont show how he dies but we write a story around it how he died in prison. By an inmate killing him or something like wtf ? At least make it make sense why go through the effort to put him in prison when u would kill him off anyways . And lastly for the love of god , how do these writers view males ? Especially athletes because they literally created a whole club for the athletes to take some pictures of girls and then blackmail them into having sex with them ? It was like watching a show written by hardcore feminists that scream all men are bad and they rape. Like i know the show is to spread awarness but aside from tonys boyfriend there was no sane person on this show. Tbh i felt bad for monty a bit because of the thing with his dad , and im so mad that the writers decided to make him this asshole that had to feel like he needs to prove himself and make him rape tyler with the broomstick (which was the most disturbing scene ever , not even hannahs suicide was that disturbing than that) like he had some sort of potential to be somewhat of a good character now that bryce was gone , but no remember all men are bad and rapists Fucking stupid
Both are equally bonkers and batshit insane in terms of plot, but the difference is that Riverdale doesn’t claim to be this profound statement show about mental health so the cringe is honestly more acceptable.
THANK YOU for pointing out how it makes no sense that the jocks were blaming Monty's death on Clay and his friends when Monty was already killed in prison for being a rapist! No one ever pointed that out in the show or in any videos on the show I've seen. That plotline really annoyed me throughout the season.
Yes! That also made me so confused that I even started to think that maybe the main characters had something to do with his death 😂 like Justin asked Seth for a favor at the very end of the last season, so I was like... maybe it’s connected? But in the end, we didn’t find that out, so I’ve just given up and moved on 😂
Looking For Alaska mini series is fantastic. I thought it was great. It was way better then the book and 13 Reasons. And this coming from someone who was a huge fan of the novel back in high school.
i actually kinda liked that one, lfa was my favourite book when i was 13 so coming back to it all these years later was kinda nice. obviously it has some troubling ideas but on the whole i really connected with it
@@edsterrock def better than the book but still had some wack manic pixie dream girl tropes that, albeit were in the source material, really should've died a long time ago
Can someone talk about how they brought back characters in the last episode that we completely forgot about? Then it reminded me that so many characters from season 1 were dropped.
23:55 This part frustrated me so much when I was watching it. I was like, "...what??" after that scene ended. How the hell does that make any sense. Zach literally states that the police told him Bryce didn't die from being beaten up in the same SENTENCE as when he said he knows he didn't kill him. What kind of weird statement is "If you know that you didn't kill him, then you must know who did" anyway? Do I know who the Zodiac killer is just because I know it's not me?
The Bryce, Monty and Hannah “ghosts” annoyed me at first but, as someone with MADD, I’ve warmed up to the concept. To those who don’t know, MADD stands for “maladaptive daydreaming disorder”, a disorder where patients who have it will spend several minutes, sometimes even hours in an extremely vivid paracosm (imaginary world) while pacing, driving, listening to music or even jumping around, anything stimulating really to feel more in the zone while daydreaming. Now I’m not saying that Clay definitely has that disorder, but it’s common for people with MADD to feel attached to paras (aka characters in their paracosm) to the point of having full conversations with them or even preferring those exchanges over interactions with real people. Some people even become addicted to their daydreams, and will slip into one without even trying. Now if you combine that with psychosis, which Clay DEFINITELY has, and it makes a lot of sense why the “ghosts” would be popping up more randomly but especially more during stressful times, like a school shooter drill for example. Clay even says that he’s just “imagining what they would say” back to him when he’s “talking” to them. I doubt that the writers actually put that much thought into it though so this isn’t like a theory that Clay canonically has MADD or anything like that. However, if they had written the ghost scenes with Clay having MADD in mind, I feel like that would’ve changed how they presented it and it would’ve made a lot more sense. It would just fit with the story in general seeing that Clay isn’t the best with social interactions and lives his life as if he’s the protagonist in a movie. Not to mention that other characters have daydreams throughout the series too.
It reminded me of American Horror Story, like how every season is different but season 4 every episode was different. Also, Clay being pointed out that he did all the crimes he was "trying" to solve is straight up ripped off from American Horror Story: Hotel, in which the detective realizes he was the murderer the whole time. Ugh
ahs is an anthology series tho so it's intentionally different, whereas 13rw is supposed to have one narrative throughout the whole show so it's just down to inconsistent writing. the narrative with not remembering hallucinations has also been used in several movies like Fight Club and Donnie Darko
@@user-ph5yi7nb3m yes. I was just saying how Clay was trying to figure out who did the crimes and ot turned out to be him all along reminded me of AHS hotel. I'm not saying 13rw is good,, but rather extremely unoriginal when it tried to be edgy and scary
@@blueyellowandgreen I agree with u on that. I only watched season 1 bc it was so over hyped and had 0 interest in watching the other seasons bc the writing is very bad
Lots of characters did lmao. But then somehow they all get off scott free and multiple of them got into top universities (despite spending most of their time partying, socializing, scheming, or investigating).
When Bryce said he won in episode 10 I was agreeing with him. After he dies he basically has this power over the people he hurt more than when he was alive. He's still looked at like he is in some way a good person. The show basically said "you can be a rapist but if you die you'll be seen as a good person in people's hearts and you'll still have power over people who you hurt."
Can we please discuss the poorly done, embarrassing effects of Tony’s head just being pasted onto his opponents body looking ridiculous? “I’m going to go do coke in the washroom, WOO!” - Zack
It’s absolutely outrageous that Clay and Zach got into a MAJOR car accident that should’ve killed them , but in season 1 Jeff died by a minor accident . Ridiculous. Clay spray paints the school, breaks security cameras , takes a cop gun and starts swinging around at everyone, blows up the principals car , escapes the mental hospital, and go inside a police station saying he has a fake gun, and he gets 0 consequences! Wtf!! White privilege. There was so many scenes that led to NOWHERE . What happened after in the scene when Clay Tony, and Tyler was in the alley way when the cops pulled up? Was everybody going to ignore that Zach was about to rape a hooker? This season was fucking trash and a waste of my time 🤦🏾♂️
@@SamaritanPrime its white privilege to a degree because if a black kid took that cops gun or blew up that car or came in the dance covered in blood or said he had a gun in the police station, the story would turn out way different
i thought i was losing my mind all season seeing people trying "avenge" monty's death. monty was in jail for what he did to tyler and his death has nothing to do with bryce! finally someone said it!
I loved the first season because of the directions it took outside of the book. While it followed it pretty faithfully, it also added a lot of depth to the characters and the impact Hannah made on everyone named in the tapes. Readers only saw Clay’s POV so whenever a character was mentioned in a tape, readers never intimately got to know them besides what Hannah said of them or Clay’s feelings about them. I was glad they did a season two because it left the question of “What if the school was held liable by the death of Hannah for not helping her?” I know many people that said that season 2 wasn’t as good as season 1 but I thought it was a great closure for the characters accepting what the tapes did to them. If the show wrapped it up in season 2, I would have felt closure with the story of Hannah. But they left it open ended for season 3 which revolved around a character that didn’t need to be in the spotlight. I thought Tyler was going to be the main focus and he wasn’t. There was some foreshadowing in season 4 but all they did was make him look like a villain even though he hasn’t done anything worse than what Clay has been doing in season 4 and Clay gets rewarded with prom and a speech at graduation? Thats bull. Season 3 and 4 clearly favor to Clay even though there were many interesting characters and their storylines that could have been restored. Hell, I came up with a better plot for season 4: to tie in the “13” motif of the show, Hannah’s mom could have sent Clay a list Hannah made of “13 things to do before graduation.” Each episode centered around Clay and the group honoring Hannah during their senior year while also tying loose ends from their craggy relationships. Each task they do, brings them closer. Now THAT would have been an interesting ending to the show. Something light hearted, not so serious, yet still close out the show. I kind of want this season to be remade like the many fans of “Game of Thrones” wanted a different season 8.
You know, I'm glad that this show ended. Netflix didn't do what the CW actually does for their shows. (renew them for 10+ seasons for no reason) No matter how ambiguous the 4th season was, it at least completes everything. For example, I liked the death of Justin and the epilogue. Everything else was boring, shitty, and awful.
What they did to Justin was so dirty. He was the only good character with an actual good arc of overcoming addiction and trauma and becoming a better person just to kill him off, proving the writers didn't care about characters or themes or any type of hope, only sensationalism and cheap shock value.
If I wrote the script for this god awful season I would have: - made Clay worse and worse mentally for every episode, and then result in him getting himself killed. - Then I would let Justin live, and drop the BS reunion scene at the ending, - Furthermore, I would have NOT turned every character gay - Focused more on the relationship between Justin and Tony. - Have a real consequence for each action And at the last scene/episode, I would have had Justin reflecting on all the losses he has suffered throughout all the seasons like; Hannah, Bryce, Monty, his mom, and now Clay
to be fair Alex and the other one? Charlie? clearly are bi or pan, Courtney came out as a lesbian and was promptly written off, and Ryan was a really terrible stereotype and Tony didn’t have a storyline of him figuring out his sexuality like Alex does. in reality with all the other straight characters you have a pretty even mix that feels at least a bit realistic.
Video Guy Okay I’m not getting into a stats argument about thirteen reasons why lmao just say across the board sexuality representation bothers you I don’t need to hear a statistic about it.
i would also add that alex’s sexuality should’ve been in development by season 3 or after the locker room scene with him and zach, because that makes more sense than just shoving it in season 4. he could’ve spent the entire 3rd season trying to figure himself out or the remainder of season 2 trying to sort out possible feelings towards zach.
the tone changed entirely from season 1. i was rewatching stuff from the first season and couldn’t believe it was the same show. season 1 wasn’t perfect but it had heart and humor. season 4 is a supernatural thriller. they fumbled the ball so hard
A big issue I had with this season in particular is, mis-steps aside most of the characters seem somewhat like actual characters. But then they bring in Winston who is a LITERAL Bond villain. He has no character traits except REVENGE. And even has the completely out there clothing choices to back up his super villain motif.
22:00 that was frustrating me for the whole 12 hours of this season. The characters would allude to “well Monty died before we did anything so it’s not our fault” but they never actually say it. Also clay is the anxious one? Clay is almost suicidal Becca of this while Alex, Jess and others are happily fucking their brains out and having fun despite actually being at fault. It’s like the writers of this season didn’t even watch the last one. They wanted a nice little ribbon at the end of the last season but nice ribbons aren’t good for future conflict so they just pretended it didn’t happen
What bothered me about this series is how Bryce and Monty were set up as monsters that deserved the full weight of the law, but Alex just made a simple mistake of MURDERING someone and he should be redeemed. The moral compass of all the characters was thrown out of whack with this inconsistency.
I really truly believe Zach Dempsey was the charecter they originally planned on killing, due to the horrific car accident that is seemingly brushed off and the flashbacks to the funeral that clearly display a football team member's funeral. An article from The Independent states the cast wanted Justin to die "throughout the season" which to me, seems so incredibly stitched together. Sad they sacrificed a good storyline for shock value...
What the hell? A highscooler dying of HIV/Aids like the disease is as fast as freaking stage 4 lung cancer?

My main gripes are how badly and inaccurately they portray HIV/AIDS and how they totally lost the opportunity to show how being HIV+ isn’t a death sentence in the 21st century. They just went for the shock factor.
For me, the most unbelievable aspect of the show was that we suppose to believe that all main characters are "friends": they almost don't talk or spend time with each other outside of shitty situations and only thing that really connects them is being part of a murder cover up.
not to mention they all treat each other like shit most of the time... they're either miserable as fuck or fighting each other
Its the most shitty friend group on Netflix
I think it's probably similar to the friendships made during war. Apparently, those bonds are really strong because they've been through so much shit together
Trauma and pain is the strongest connection between people in my experience
"friends" but Zach is an absolute wreck the whole season and none of them (but Alex) gives a shit, just because he doesn't want to be a part of their stupid plans. Their "friend" got in a car accident, was about to rape a drunk girl and all they could say was "do better"... yeah they're pretty close huh
I couldn't help but cringe when he was talking to his therapist about seeing the passed out girl and thinking about s*x with her. That whole scene was way out of character for Clay and after that episode I decided it wasnt worth the watch anymore
Exactly, it was hella out of character and then they just never mentioned it again?? lmfaoo
They did the same shit with Zack when he was about to have sex with a drunken woman. I guess they are trying to say all men are rapist or something lmao
Well done for getting that far. I didnt make it through the first episode. I decided I was too old to get it until I seen gen Zers having the same criticisms as me.
@@RykerJones28 I made it 3 minutes in to the first episode of season 4 and thought the same thing 😅 "...............yeah I can't do this" lmao

I'm really let down by my own time in high school. Nobody died, people didn't go to prison, nobody blew up a car or do any of the stupid shit shown in the show.

@@Scarz3ny yeah, we had a bunch of students get arrested for selling drugs
Miss Steak i feel like winston cared so much was because he saw the soft side of monty, and was with him that night, which is why i think he wanted to uncover the truth
could be a form of stockohlm syndrome they are trying to portray. idk though

He should’ve died from a drug overdose tbh. It would’ve made his drug addiction realistic for the first time in his character arc
Netflix's greatest show everybody
Right, and also most everyone else faces zero consequences for many mistakes they make while putting in absolutely zero effort to make up for them, while they purposefully have Justin spending over half the show working past that part of his life and improving himself just to say “nvm fuck you” at the last second
It was so random too like he was fine the whole time. It felt almost like the writers sat down and said look guys we didnt do any big twists this season the story gets more boring and repetitive how bout we kill justin off
Ok but how does he die in a car crash
No, oh remember that we made him a drug addict
Uhh yeah
How bout he dies from late stage aids because he shared needles
Omg thats brilliant thats why u are the head writer jack thats our man
Or how else am i supposed to imagine how that conversation went
They try so hard to make gay characters and portray that “It’s ok to be gay” and then makes every gay character kiss every guy they’re friends with. Totally unrealistic.
What's worse is that a lot of the gay stuff in this show is related to something horrible.
Why do we Need an gay charakters in every god damn netflix show anyway?
Shira Shows i think it’s good to have Lgbt+ characters, for representation, just not the way they portray them. Being gay is now a personality and a character for these shows and the issue lies with the improper portrayal of the Lgbt+ community.
Shira Shows Why do we need straight characters in every show?
Or there's a convenient new gay guy for them to date
I don’t understand why seemed to make all the male characters sex offenders? Like I understand Bryce’s character highlighting rape and sexual assault, but why did they make Clay admit wanting to have sex with a passed out girl? And why did they have a scene where Zach nearly raped an-almost-passed-out escort? It just seemed so unnecessary and weird....

fun fact: it actually takes multiple years for HIV to progress into AIDs :)
Also if you on medication it will never progress to AIDS..

The killed Justin just to make this season somewhat memorable. HIV takes 10-20 years to develop to aids and then another 2 years to die if you don’t take no medication.

Justin’s death was just so this season could have its “gacha” moment. His death made me more mad than sad tbh it didn’t serve the story at all.
It's so clear that they sidelined Ani because the backlash against her character that happened last season. She's far from a good character and I didn't like her, but I feel really sorry for the actress. Sge was hit the most by the backlash and what Netflix did is basically validate shitty fans and their opinions.
Grace Saif deserves a better role to show off her talent that's for sure...

Things that didn’t make sense to me about this season:
The funeral not being consistent in every episode
Zach going off the deep in for no particular reason?
It’s like the writers just called riverdale and was like hey give us writing advice?
his hallucinations were too creepy and bizarre for me. I stopped mid episode 3.
We only had to watch the show. Zack was LIVING in it. His spiral into oblivion makes a lot more sense when you look at it like that
Also why kill monty and bryce if they gonna bring them back as ghosts that haunt only clay? Tbh i felt bad for monty a bit because of the thing with his dad , and im so mad that the writers decided to make him this asshole that had to feel like he needs to prove himself and make him rape tyler with the broomstick (which was the most disturbing scene ever , not even hannahs suicide was that disturbing than that) like he had some sort of potential to be somewhat of a good character now that bryce was gone , but no remember all men are bad and rapists

But in the end, we didn’t find that out, so I’ve just given up and moved on 😂
also, I haven't found anyone who's ripped Hulu's Looking for Alaska to shreds and I'm hoping that's coming in the future, cheers
Me too, I didn't mind that adaptation, but I'd be interested to see what Taylor has to say about it. 😊🤔
Looking For Alaska mini series is fantastic. I thought it was great. It was way better then the book and 13 Reasons. And this coming from someone who was a huge fan of the novel back in high school.
i actually kinda liked that one, lfa was my favourite book when i was 13 so coming back to it all these years later was kinda nice. obviously it has some troubling ideas but on the whole i really connected with it
I actually thought it was done quite well. Nowhere near how 13RW was.
@@edsterrock def better than the book but still had some wack manic pixie dream girl tropes that, albeit were in the source material, really should've died a long time ago
Can someone talk about how they brought back characters in the last episode that we completely forgot about? Then it reminded me that so many characters from season 1 were dropped.
omg I know this comment is a year old BUT SAME I FREAKED OUT LIKE WHY THE FUCK
For a show where even the first season was wobbly,I am surprised that they were callous enough to have 4 seasons!
Being so early kind of sucks since I only have like 10 comments to read smh
Now 11
I replied so you can go read new ones.
Make that 108
Good thing Outer Banks is here to take over the Cringe of the Year award lol
"John B, did you just yeet over that fence?" HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH
Imo still a better show than 13rw 😂😂

This part frustrated me so much when I was watching it.
Not to mention that other characters have daydreams throughout the series too.
these high schoolers looking nearly 30 makes me want to rip my eyes out
Monty looks so FUCKING OLD
Cody // hes 33 and zach is 30 💀
Yall know Tony is in hes 30s too
@@alex_n215 Zach doesn't look as old lol but yeah I know lol
@@sanjomona actually he 29
I'm surprised that Zac's mom never showed up in the series, going crazy with her son for not going to college.
@@user-ph5yi7nb3m indeed it is, I hate watched it and the whole time I was excited to see what Taylor would say XD
Jason Green // it probably isn’t but most people nowadays know AHS more than any other show, especially this generation.
Clay does like 10 things that would ruin a regular person’s life permanently in this season. It gets to the point of being ridiculous.
Lots of characters did lmao. But then somehow they all get off scott free and multiple of them got into top universities (despite spending most of their time partying, socializing, scheming, or investigating).
Justin was the only good thing that happened in the show. THEY KILLED OFF THE ONLY GOOD THING THAT HAPPENED IN THAT SHOW.
Miss Steak clay was better but they ruined him with time
Eh I mean he wasn't as bad as some other characters but you can't say he was the only good thing.
i'm so glad this video is 44 minutes long, cannot wait
When Bryce said he won in episode 10 I was agreeing with him. After he dies he basically has this power over the people he hurt more than when he was alive. He's still looked at like he is in some way a good person. The show basically said "you can be a rapist but if you die you'll be seen as a good person in people's hearts and you'll still have power over people who you hurt."
It’s really stunning how often they set stuff up just to never mention it again
What a train wreck. Hope it is used in the future on how not to screen write.
I expected the insane car crash to be a world changing event. I assumed the next episode was a flashback. But nope nothing matters
Can we please discuss the poorly done, embarrassing effects of Tony’s head just being pasted onto his opponents body looking ridiculous?
“I’m going to go do coke in the washroom, WOO!” - Zack
This show is that guest that just won't take the hint and go home

This season was fucking trash and a waste of my time 🤦🏾♂️
This shows been a waste of time
That's not even white privilege at that point. It's gone so far past that point that it's up to some utterly ridiculous plot armor.
White privilege doesn’t exist, this show is just retarded, and that’s just an example of plot armor
@@SamaritanPrime its white privilege to a degree because if a black kid took that cops gun or blew up that car or came in the dance covered in blood or said he had a gun in the police station, the story would turn out way different
deez nuts yes because u obviously kno the future and I right face ass
He's exhausted, she's exhausted, I'm Squidward, you're Squidward, he, she, me, we wumbo.
Re: Tyler - As if any real department could use an actual minor as an undercover informant for arms dealers lmao
The same unhinged mfer that stalked everyone, was mentally unstable, and almost shot up schoolmates or school itself many times. 😭🤣
The best way to describe this show is by the quote 3 characters from a ♾x better show say: “Don’t fetishise your own sadness”.
bojack horseman tackles mental health infinite times better than 13rw! love that show
stacey Yeah, I’m pretty sure that’s an objective fact.

i thought i was losing my mind all season seeing people trying "avenge" monty's death. monty was in jail for what he did to tyler and his death has nothing to do with bryce! finally someone said it!
"an unironic version of the 9/11 musical from skins"
My god, genius!
I think the worst part of the season is clay flipping zacks car over off a cliff going like 80 and both are fine the next episode
You know, I'm glad that this show ended.
Netflix didn't do what the CW actually does for their shows. (renew them for 10+ seasons for no reason)
No matter how ambiguous the 4th season was, it at least completes everything.
That and Wasting Talented actors...
If I wrote the script for this god awful season I would have:
- made Clay worse and worse mentally for every episode, and then result in him getting himself killed.
- Then I would let Justin live, and drop the BS reunion scene at the ending,
- Furthermore, I would have NOT turned every character gay
- Focused more on the relationship between Justin and Tony.
- Have a real consequence for each action
And at the last scene/episode, I would have had Justin reflecting on all the losses he has suffered throughout all the seasons like; Hannah, Bryce, Monty, his mom, and now Clay
to be fair Alex and the other one? Charlie? clearly are bi or pan, Courtney came out as a lesbian and was promptly written off, and Ryan was a really terrible stereotype and Tony didn’t have a storyline of him figuring out his sexuality like Alex does. in reality with all the other straight characters you have a pretty even mix that feels at least a bit realistic.
stolenmeme Having an even mix isn’t true to life. Gay people comprise 5% of the US population. Not 50%
Video Guy Okay I’m not getting into a stats argument about thirteen reasons why lmao just say across the board sexuality representation bothers you I don’t need to hear a statistic about it.
i would also add that alex’s sexuality should’ve been in development by season 3 or after the locker room scene with him and zach, because that makes more sense than just shoving it in season 4. he could’ve spent the entire 3rd season trying to figure himself out or the remainder of season 2 trying to sort out possible feelings towards zach.
the tone changed entirely from season 1. i was rewatching stuff from the first season and couldn’t believe it was the same show. season 1 wasn’t perfect but it had heart and humor. season 4 is a supernatural thriller. they fumbled the ball so hard
Best line of the season: “Im gonna go do COKE.... true story” -Zach
That high school should be buried in lawsuits!😂
Should’ve been shut down
It’s been a fun ride Taylor. Here we say goodbye to the most anticipated YT series.
A big issue I had with this season in particular is, mis-steps aside most of the characters seem somewhat like actual characters. But then they bring in Winston who is a LITERAL Bond villain. He has no character traits except REVENGE. And even has the completely out there clothing choices to back up his super villain motif.
I've been waiting for this video THE DAY szn 4 came out
Right
For real!!!
I stopped watching when I learned they were humanizing Bryce. Glad to know i didn't miss anything worthy!
It's weird. Season 3, they're redeeming him, but season 4, he's basically a POS.
Ive been waiting for this. Searched for this only yesterday and now today is finally my lucky day.
12:00 “I tried to find the climax but there isn’t one” story of my sex life
that’s a quality pfp
I look forward to Adum & Pals suffering through this.
Has YMS confirmed anything?
I feel like they wouldn't do it after their painful experience with the third season.
I think Adum will if only because he has a pretty obvious pain fetish
I'm specially looking forward to their reactions towards the cyborg Bryce scene
This man’s facial hair is absolutely *fabulous*
I’ve been waiting so long for this, my body is ready.
The best part of of 13 Reasons Why is getting these videos trashing it
I really truly believe Zach Dempsey was the charecter they originally planned on killing, due to the horrific car accident that is seemingly brushed off and the flashbacks to the funeral that clearly display a football team member's funeral. An article from The Independent states the cast wanted Justin to die "throughout the season" which to me, seems so incredibly stitched together. Sad they sacrificed a good storyline for shock value...
