This is gold! “I just tickled the ground”! 😊 Your wife did good and is so cute. I love the emphasis on brush and the simplicity of this. Incidentally, I watched your famous presentation in 2015 today! Great stuff on both ends of the spectrum.
Your better half was charming and very brave.... not easy to be willing to be on a youtube video that will be seen my many many golfers when you are a beginner.... lots of great information on this video, both from the standpoint of the teacher and the student and for people watching this video... it often helps to overcompensate when trying to make a golf change... instead of brushing the ground, maybe try to make the club go under the ball and it might result in actually brushing the ground at the correct depth .. . great idea to bring her in... would love to see her in more followup videos...
As a 10 h capper with poor chipping outcomes was good to reinforce a a number of the basics. Brush the grass, grip pressure and avoid excessive follow through. (I was listening to!)
Love this! this is gold. I am a 2 handicap, follow you closely, but still learned a bunch. It also really helped me teach my 10 year old daughter the other day
Excellent start! External focus first. You have to understand what the club is supposed to do. If you already have some hand-eye coordination in your luggage the body part will come more naturally
Great teaching style! One thing she missing is swing with natural momentum, in the beginning she use hand control the club, instead she should let the momentum takes over control in the down swing, just my personal opinion feedback, thanks and cheers :)
I really liked this video regardless that it’s your wife ,it shows what a great coach you are and why you teach mostly elite players as your main job because you verbalise really well and lay out a plan so beautifully that any level will benefit from it 👍
Thanks Darren, really appreciate your comment. I think you hit the nail on the head as obviously the content of a lesson with a beginner vs a tour player will be different but our ability to deliver what we want is key.
At 12:50 you're inches from sleeping on the couch! 😀 "It didn't brush, it clunked" 🤣 Jokes aside, this is a brilliant video. Focusing on the physical essentials of what needs to happen in the chip, not a lot of technical overload. One thing, James. Not a criticism, but maybe something you want to consider. A big part of your audience is probably not native english-speaking (like me), and sometimes you speak very fast and your voice is very "mid-heavy" tonally, which easily gets to sound a bit muddy on crappy laptop or cellphone speakers. (It's been better in your later videos - maybe you have changed camera or microphones?). So it would really help viewers like me, if you were to speak ever so slightly slower and more articulate.
Way too complicated. I would just tell her to "use the bounce" and "hinge and hold"... ;P Very well done as always. Nice to see a teacher not use a tour player to explain their principles!
Congratulations to the other half. She did really well under that pressure. Well done both 👏
Did really well, it's hard enough to take a lesson never mind in front of a camera!

Super great video thanks James. I played today - before seeing this - and my focus is the same brush the ground - leading to good shots. 👍
Good stuff Tony
I realy like your teaching. I teach too.

Thanks and welcome

Fantastic! So cool to hear
Great to see the process of teaching a complete beginner how to chip. Perhaps you could do the same but showing how to get out of a bunker
It's part of the plan, I think a better grasp of the full swing might be required first though. Or we can try it and find out!

First class video James well played. Something for all of us in there I think.
Thanks Dale, some gentle reminders for the more experienced among us
Well done!!! Hats off to you both! Just subscribed this morning, thank you!!!

Brave man
Could have gone horribly wrong
Involving the missus, brave & genius move…
Great vid pal.
There's a fine line between brave and stupid!

This is a great video. Your wife is a saint for this. Just curious with a beginner, which club are you having them chip with?
Brilliant. Informative and enjoyable. Thanks so much.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Brave man. Kudos to the wife, too.
We both survived so it's a win!
Fantastic. You were both brilliant.
Thank you kindly!
Great video for even mid to high handicappers
Glad you think so!
This is a brilliant beginner lesson. When you are teaching a beginner, what loft of wedge are you getting them to start with for the lesson?
That was a pitching wedge, enough loft for a soft flight without being intimidating
Thanks 🙌 My wife wanted to go to the driving range after watching this…instead of binge watching her Asian drama (hallelujah!) 😅 Cheers from 🇨🇦
😂 Happy to help
really enjoyed that
Much appreciated
Her shoe game is 💪
Hey come see me in Versailles/Paris !
I teach begginers every day since 7 years with now very good result in less than 2 hours 😉
Sounds great!
that was great!
Thanks, appreciate you watching!
You are one brave man 😂 This was a great 101 lesson which covers all the fundamentals.
There's a fine line between brave and stupid! 🤣
Always enjoy your content...Do you understand the American saying "you out kicked your coverage" :"))
Haha yes I do
Awesome tips. I’m putting them to use in my next video. #birdiejuice
Hi James can you let me know where the curved alignment sticks came from please?
Company called The Perfect Putter

Wouldn't be the first time..
I hear you, pacing is hard to get right sometimes. Will continue to work on it.
very generous of that cutie, I have been playing for 30+ years and still cannot do it
You married well. Congrats.

Hinge and hold was my back up plan 😳🤣
When I taught my exes, it wasn’t a success unless I saw tears.
😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂
A terrible endeavor. Well done.
Fortunately no one was hurt... 😬
