I was in a relationship with a deaf guy (im hearing) and I loved learning Sign language. I was glad because even Deaf people thought I was one of them as apparently I was signing really well and they were always surprised because I dont have any family who is Deaf. It didn't work out between us - but I still love signing. Unfortunately, I live in a different country now and the Sign language is different - but anytime I see deaf people - regardless which country they come from.. I always try to sign with them and usually understand each other :)
I am currently dating a deaf person and I wouldn’t change it for the world. We appreciate each other also have gained patience and understanding because we both know how hard it was going to be. Going on two years now 🥰 and I still learn new signs everyday. I wouldn’t trade him for the world, if he was hearing or not because that shouldn’t matter.
As a non deaf person, I literally watched through this entire video and it was great. Thanks for sharing such personal experiences. I wish you find what your heart desires.

I’ve dated a deaf girl once. She had implants and so she could hear and talk. She was also foreign. Had an accent on top of her tone. Yet it was easy to understand her. Knew her for 5 years. Her and I don’t talk anymore which makes me sad. I miss her.

i’m in love with a person from another country and i’m ready to learn her native language so that she is comfortable with me. so i don’t understand those who may be busy in order to learn any language for comfort with a person whom he really likes.

I have been around signing and deaf all of my life So, I know a lot, but there are times people do sign to fast for me (I am not saying you should change this is just my personal experience) I can sign fast I watch you to become better at reading

I dated this girl for a few years. We had a pretty instant connection and felt really comfortable with each other very quickly. My parents loved her and in a lot of ways it was a great relationship. But there were some key differences between us that would cause tension. However, I'm not entirely sure they were things we couldn't get past had we stayed together. But similar to your story, there were some issues with her family.
Her mother was really sweet on the surface, but it became really obvious that she was actually really passive aggressive and pretty manipulative. And she would create all sorts of problems and tension between my girlfriend and the rest of her family, which would then wind up putting a strain on our relationship because it would create a lot of emotional stress for my girlfriend. And it became pretty clear after a while that I was basically my girlfriends emotional escape from her toxic family.
And after a while it just became too much of a strain. It's one thing to be there for your partner and support them through tough times. But when one partner is completely emotionally dependent on the other one, its becomes toxic really quickly. And then after we broke up, we'd have periods where we would talk again, but because emotions were raw we'd often wind up fighting sometimes too. And the hidden nastiness that was in her mom would show up in those fights that we would have and that's when I realized that I had to really go my separate way from that person.
So even though its not the same exact experience you went through, I can definitely relate to being with someone whose family causes undue stress on the relationship. Glad you and your ex were able to work through it and eventually have a good friendship with each other.

So my mother is deaf, she went to Maryland School for the Deaf in Frederick. Anyhow, i was adopted and my adoptive siblings learned sign from me and alot of my friends thruout school . Its fun when you and your sister can walk thru the crowded halls signing to one another and noone knows what we are saying. I taught my children sign and anyone else who ask . I also taught my dog and my cat signs they understand .

I have been signing for 3 years, my boyfriend and I met at a camp last year. He's Hard Of Hearing. We've been dating for a year now, and honestly it's the best relationship I've been in.

not to sound crazy but if I was getting close to someone like you id make a full dedication to learning sign language. That would be motivation enough. I haven't actually ever met a deaf person, I guess people who are deaf don't live near me! but if I were to ever meet someone who only spoke asl i think that would be incredible

If I have date with a deaf cute girl like you then I don’t mind to learn sign language. It’s really good to learn a new languages and I guess learn sign languages may easier than learn hearing language.
I can really relate to how you feel about wanting to find the right person that you have a deep connection with, not messing around etc. I am like that too because I can never just see a guy and go "Oh he's cute okay I will date him right now." No way, I have to get to know them first and decide "okay would I be willing to MARRY this person" before I can even say I have a "crush" on them which has only been a couple people. I am 23 now and never dated once haha but I am perfectly fine and not in a rush.

Hey sweetie I understandy very clearly. U are very beautiful and young what u need be happy for your future and also in my opinion just wait till your college 2 or 3 or 4 year whatever finish your graduate so however then what do u go where move and new job settle down everything being when the right time for u start date is the same work and same area or whatever u know what I mean. Rather first new friend take time if he like u or not , if u like him or not just see yourself in the future with Some one move new life with your heart ❤😊. But if u don't like my opinion then that is okay it all up to u and going flow follow your heart 💖.

Well I know it feel like together as hearing/deaf and it your life being your choice. I be in both relationship, be honestly for me well I am deaf all my life I had cochleae I can hearing everything and I always full speaking and as kid did not sign until I was 11 or 12 I learning for only deaf community.

I'm sorry, but it is beyond messed up to have a ring ceremony for 14/15-year olds. Especially when 1. the kids don't know and 2. they expect it to be like a marriage commitment. Are you kidding me???? WHO DOES THAT??????????? I mean, I live in Utah and the marriage age here is ridiculously young, but that is beyond insane to demand that you will never leave their son before you have even graduated high school. I do not envy the people who marry into that family because they have extremely unhealthy boundaries.

Yes it is fact life, but it difficult to know who is.... My experience is that there is some that are willing to have to be friend or friendship and to lead to marrry, if the hearing person know and understand how the deaf culture and deaf character and it is nothing effect or affect.. I have many friends who the hearing student and people while they like me the most but not because they like me, the reason why because i show them the way of fun and kind. that is how..my advice is that we need to have a friendship deaf. To help you to avoid from regret.... that is all i know about. Thanks
