  • After a year of dedicated research, our students proudly unveiled the exhibit "Invisible Labor: The History and Impact of Domestic Workers in Grosse Pointe and Detroit" at the Ford House. Open until February 25, 2025, this showcase highlights the vital contributions of domestic workers in the 20th century.
This project was a true collaboration between the Ford House and ULS students. With guidance from Karen Villegas, Director of Information Services & Global Online Learning at ULS and Lisa Worley, Director of Material Culture at the Ford House the students developed the exhibition, learned research techniques, and implemented best practices for curating. Our students took on the role of professional historians, meeting deadlines and receiving valuable feedback.
Guided by the Liggett Approach, which emphasizes Practical Learning for Life where we use every resource at our disposal to make learning relevant, applicable, and impactful, students engage in deep, sustained research using a variety of primary source materials. Students then made their own meaning out of this research by crafting narratives out of that research designed to inform the wider community of these women’s contributions to society. Two even presented their findings at a national conference!
As senior Ari Medvinsky said, “It was a great opportunity to learn alongside professional historians and strengthen my speaking and writing skills.”
