  • Soap making video for the Soap Challenge Club July 2020 - Natural Stone Techniques: Marble Soap Category to make soap that resembles naturally occurring marble.
Please always follow safety requirements while making soap! Sodium/Potassium hydroxide is caustic and can cause burns on skin or on mucous membranes!
I have always wanted to make marble soap and I actually have tried before and made a mess. Now this is the perfect opportunity to practice and make a better one! I love pouring the soap to create the veining effect as it is quite mesmorising for me.
Make sure you use don't over blend for this technique and getting it to a light to medium trace might work it best. You only need about 6-7% at max of soap amount to create the veining effect. I used 7 percent for this soap batch.
The colourants I used in this video were:
    White - Titanium Dioxide
    Black - Activated Charcoal
    Grey - Activated Charcoal
Essential oil blend: Rosemary, litsea cubeba and lavender
    Time links to the video:
0:26 Mixing of lye solution and oils
    0:43 Adding essential oils
0:54 Splitting 7% of the batch
    1:01 Colouring of the soap
1:31 Pouring each of the soap batter into pitcher
1:48 Pouring into the soap mould - in the pot swirl technique
4:11 Twist and turn the soap mould
    4:28 Finished photos
I think I did a good job this time making this marble soap! I am happy with the results overall. But I think I prefer a soap with a less veining effect. So if I make this again, maybe I'll reduce the veining soap portion to only 5%. What do you think about this soap? Let me know in the comments.
Thank you Amy for organising such a challenge again. For more information about the Soap Challenge Club: soapchallengec...

Oh this turned out so beautifully, Janice!! The soap stayed so fluid until the end, and the spin swirl is such an excellent idea to get more movement! Way to go!!

You only stick blend the soap until emulsion and you can try to use more liquid oils instead hard oils, soaping at a lower temperature will also help!

Hi thank you so much for the video! may I please ask, to have a slow moving oil batter what percentage of hard oil to soft oil would you recommend? Also with TD do you also find that it accelerate the soap batter quickly? Any tips please? Thank you!

    • @TheScraftworks
      @TheScraftworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hello, there are actually more factors affecting the trace of the soap besides the amount of soft to hard oils such as the type of oil you use and the temperature you work with your soap. In this video, I used a formula with 50% soft oils to hard oils. Some soft oils are known to accelerate trace too such as castor oil and avocado oil. Titanium dioxide also does accelerate trace so you have to avoid over blending. There’s so much to look for in soap making!! ❤️❤️❤️ thank you hope this helps.

I have never tested the pH of my soaps but it should be probably at 9-10. Thank you
