Swedish BM always sounds more brutal and meaty, while norway BM riffing sounds more evil. I always prefer norway BM style than the swedes. But of course I have favorites among swedish BM bands, such as watain and sacramentum.
Next Finnish vs Icelandic BM style perhaps?

I'm Aussie and seen Mayhem,Satyricon,Watain but in large venues.
But it was Marduk at the crowbar in Brisbane who ripped my head smooth off.
Best gig I've ever been to.

Yes, Vinterland, IMO they have produced the best BM album ever. This could become a fact in the future.
For these riffs, you can tell that Dissection and Mayhem had very clear creative and musical ideas. They really stand out in being catchy, memorable and atmospheric.

A great video. And thanks to your efforts, the differences between both Schools are evident.
I dare to say that Norwegian Black Metal carries a deep influence from German Thrash/Black Metal from the 80's (especially Sodom), something that can be seen on documentaries. But it's evident the influences from traditional Heavy Metal on Swedish Black Metal in many parts.
And by the way, I truly hope a part II could be done in some moment.

There are a few Swedish Black Metal bands I like but literally ALL of my top bands are Norwegian, some of them blew me away even before I knew they were from Norway. For example, the band Djevel. I discovered them a few years ago and quickly became my favorite. It was until after I binged a couple of their albums that decided to look up where they hailed from and lo and behold they were Norwegian. Norway just has that dark, evil, sinister, melodic, and beautifuly haunting sound that really put Black Metal on the map in the first place. Sweden, although they make some killer Black Metal they tend to lean more towards that Death Metal sound. I loved this comparison.
Oh yes, I totally agree, Djevel is one of my absolute favourite bands. Their most recent album is unbelievably brilliant, I am beyond hyped for the conclusion of their trilogy about the night.

Can't stand those early raw, cave like recordings of black metal. They sound like shit, i'll never understand why some are trying to recreate that kind of sound, because it's "trve", it's awful.

Very interesting video. What I got from this, it seems the Norwegian BM is far more structured and perhaps technically done? It seems to hold more rhythm. While the Swedish seems to focus more on being brutal and fast, more hits and switches.
I vote would go for the Norwegian sound.

I would say that the only country that could match Norway in the 90´s was Sweden and then you have to remember Bathory who pretty much invented the black metal we know today

Bathory created black metal and they are Swedish and it seems strange you haven't heard Marduk or dissection lmao

@@Alonoda I'd have to agree with Bathory, just because I love Quorthon's stuff. Even if their black metal style days were short-lived as the project transitioned more towards viking metal/folk music. Dissection's a great band, but I wouldn't say the best or my favorite from Sweden.
