Ohhhhh wow wow wow!!!!!!! Steve I am sitting here watching yo, and are amazed at the smallest detail of the little birdhouse. I am speechless, to turn something so small, I did not think it was possible. That is why I am so crazy about wood turning and wood work. Thank you guys and girls.
+GordonFreeman1953 Thank you Gordon and thanks for watching. I have to give credit where it's due. About a year ago Alan Stratton (As wood turns) did a video on turning birds, of course his were larger but that's exactly where I got the idea. Steve
Thanks Donna, I'm glad you liked it and I appreciate the comment. To give credit where it's due, I got the idea for the birds from an Alan Stratton(As Wood Turns) video in which he made some larger ones. Steve
I like your attention to detail. Enjoyed your work and video, nice to have some Christmas in July as we prepare for a few 100 plus degree days this week.
Pretty and classical, can you ask for more?? Love the little bird, it's about the sweetest thing I've ever saw, I will have to try that one out, thank you for sharing!! And good luck, of course!
Love the little bird, Steve. When you can find the miniatures they are plastic and not that attractive or expensive to order. Great idea reinforcing the parts with steel wire. Will definitely try those. Thinking about making a birdhouse video and found yours while researching.
Mike, thanks so much for watching and commenting! As a fan of, and subscriber to your channel, it's especially gratifying. I agree with you and I've never cared for the plastic birds, I'd rather do something a little differently than everyone else.
Hi Tom. Thanks for watching and commenting. That video was for an entry to the "ornament challenge" that Carl Jacobson and Allen Stratton host every year and so it was edited heavily in the interest of time. I don't know if you could call them a "tutorial" but I also uploaded all of the uncut videos that went into making that birdhouse. They are on this play list th-cam.com/video/ZyhF_LldkI0/w-d-xo.html You may also want to do a search for ornament challenge as there are hundreds of neat ornaments people have entered over the years. Steve
Steve Krumanaker I found them just after I watched the Alan Stratton video you mentioned in your comment (well a similar one but it showed a bird make up 😎). Thanks for the link, I can now add that to my playlist of things to turn. My only problem, as a newbie turner, was sizing but I can overcome that by comparison with your live centre 🤔🤔. Thanks for the quick response and also for taking the time to show us your techniques and skills
Thanks again Tom. Something else that may help you. The router bit used to hollow the body in BH1 is 3/4" diameter and everything pretty much grows from there. If you any questions at all please be sure to ask. Steve
Don, thanks. it's been a long time since that video and I'm not exactly sure. I am sure a person doesn't want to buy them at the hardware. I believe it was one of either of these two pages. www.americanwoodcrafterssupply.com/catalog/search?criteria=screw+eye store.craft-wood.com/catalog/search?keyword=screw+eye

Thanks Roley for watching and commenting. That video was for one of the ornament challenges and was heavily edited in the interest of time. That, and I've been told many times it's better when I don't talk!! :) Steve
Jardillier. You are right. This video was for an entry into the Christmas Challenge hosted by Carl Jacobson and Allen Stratton. They asked that the entries be kept short as possible. If you look at my comment you will find a link to a playlist that shows the entire process to make the ornament. Thanks for watching and commenting.

That is awesome. I've made many bird house ornaments, but never tried to turn a bird. Good job.

Beautiful birdhouses. Any chance of a more tutorial version of this video for newer turners please, I would love a go at one of these 😎

Very nice!!! Was wondering what do you charge for your ornaments?
Thank you! It depends on the venue or store. I don't sell much, mostly just gift them.

Lovely to watch shame there was no commentary .

I really wanted those youturn the ornament not sand it or watch you drill with a pin vise. I was disappointed.
I'm sorry but I have no idea what you are trying to say, but if want to see the uncut version, here it is
