there's a live version that i used to have an mp3 of but i can't find it. it has one of Andy's most passionate renditions of this tune. he just absolutely nails a sweet solo live!
I'm pretty sure everyone's already commented on the 'eleven' thing, but as for how the track's title came about... Well, why WOULD an English guy be thinking about the Kiswahili for 'eleven'? What turned his thoughts that way? My theory is that, as Simon famously played drums with Toto (which is Kiswahili for 'child'), he'd have spent a fair amount of time thinking about... stuff. ;-)
World class musicians and exceptional music for those with sophisticated taste.
j’écoutais ce fabuleux morceau en 1997 et je ne m’en suis jamais lassé. Un de mes préférés.
One of the worlds most unique super drummers. Simon has a style that is always recognized.
Still listening in 2024..Great music never dies!!
I love that song.... even after such a long time it´s always like I listen to the first time!
As a 14 year old learning this song as a grade 9 drum piece, despite the challenge it's put in front of me, still a fantastic song
una hermosa creacion musical, tambien lo aprendi con la bateria pero desde un principio me empezo a gustar el sonido de los instrumentos de viento
Fantastic Composition...A song that transports you to a different place.
Fabulous! Takes me on a journey - purely auditory. Excellent!
WOW!!!
I am in love! :)))
Thnx for post, man!

kumi na moja = 11 in Swahili :)
And the song is in 11/8. Coincidence? Probably not ;-)

Underrated genius :(
@BAZ INGA yes, by highly educated musicians/drummers only that is.
Is it me or does anyone else think this song would have completely nailed it if the bassist played a fretless on this?
Yes!!
Yes!!
@rgrainger09
is that right? wow, cool!!
not 11 but 11th. lol even the tempo is right around 111 bps.
Not only that, the signature for most of the track is a pretty nonstandard 11/8th.
...funny...Kumi Na Moja. Eleven. 11.
Transcending
