right. i REALLY hated how candace tried to weaponize the fact that gizelle happens to be light skinned against her. gizelle has three dark skinned daughters, and is also absolutely and unapologetically black, and has worked for decades on black causes, with her father and her ex husband too

Giselle’s refusal to acknowledge Colorism in society is because she was raised to think certain black people are better. Read her dad’s comments about Barbara Jordan. Anyway it’s the same to say I can’t be racist because I have a ‘black friend’ as to say I can’t be a colorist because I married a dark man. Trust me I have known racist people that were sleeping with or close friends with black people and even one that married my Afro-Latina friend. Candiace was not tactful with her delivery but I know why she pointed out Gisselle’s privilege, but Giselle takes personal offense instead of trying correct her behavior because her legacy of gatekeeping ways.

I truly believe Gizelle loves her daughters and thinks they are beautiful, but it's possible she could've made some remarks to them throughout their lives because that's how she was raised. I also liked how you brought out that you can still be racist and have black friends/spouses. I've heard about it and seen it, and frankly makes no sense to me as to why someone would want to spend time with someone who doesn't think is worthy based on skewed superficial standards.
