Hey Leon, Great content. Is it also possible to fix something like this for a conversion/event configured from a target group with targetgroup trigger within GA4?
Hey Ralf 👊🏻 I guess you mean events that are created from an audience? I've never tried this but my guess this works the same as the technique I showed in the video at 10:41 using the 'Modify event' functionality.
Thank you! Great video but problem for me. I've gone through the GTM approach and added them as you say. But then when I try to look at any of them or use them, it just shows 0 data. like in the exploration you talk about it shows "No data for this combination of segments, values, filters and date range. Try editing the variables or settings or remove them."
Hi Max, really hard to tell where things are going wrong. Some possibilities that come to mind are: - GA4 will need some time to process, perhaps you were too early? - Did you publish your changes in GTM? - Did you make a typo somewhere? - perhaps you missed one of the steps in the video? I'd say don't rush it and patiently go over the steps again to see if you've missed something
Hi, a question regarding the name of custom metrics/event parameter: I watched and followed your other tutorial on how to count visitors time on site - thanks for that, it was really helpful. When installing I used your GTM session-duration script and it added the Event Parameter Name automatically: session_duration_{{dataLayer - Session Duration Minutes}}min_count This do not work well when setting up the custom metric in GA4 - what to do? I see your name for the event is shorter "session-duration-5min-count"
Hey! Great question. I would just leave the parameter name as it is, so: session_duration_{{dataLayer - Session Duration Minutes}}min_count This will automatically translate itself to all the minute markers you've set up in the session duration script. So by default it will generate a different parameter name like so: 1 minute: session_duration_1min_count 2 minutes: session_duration_2min_count 3 minutes: session_duration_3min_count etc.. So to add a custom statistic for the amount of sessions longer than three minutes, you'll use 'session_duration_3min_count' as event parameter. I hope this helps..
@@LeonKorteweg Alright so, for every count I´d like to study I need to set up a separate dimension metric with separate event parameter names. Now I get it :-) thanks!
Great question. I usually do everything in GTM, because it's so powerful and because it can serve data to different destinations. But I work in GTM every day so I'm very comfortable with it. I see people set up events in GA4 when they aren't as comfortable in GTM and all they need is a simple 'thankyou page' type conversion. For that it's fine to use GA4. Be careful not to do both though as every event will be counted double.

How do you decide to set up an event in GA4 vs. GTM?
