      Hey. That fan dims, you need to hold down the light button on remote and it will dim. Keep holding and the light will brighten back up. Does the bond dim too? Thanks!

    This send like it would work on the new type of Solar flood lights with remotes. Have you tried that? Hiw strong is the bond signal?

  • @oldedwardian1778

    This sounds interesting, my concern is the RANGE of the RF signal from the Bond device.
    Now I know he said it should work within a 2,500 Sq Ft home, that is NOT VERY HELPFUL.
    I think I will buy one, as long as I can return it.

    Great video again! My question is if I bought the fan in your description and put my Philips hue color lights in the fan, would the bond still work with the lights? Or do you think the bond and hue would have issues working together? Does that make sense? Thank you for your time!

    • @TechWithBrett
      @TechWithBrett  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They would work find together but you may run into issues with having 3 ways to turn in the light.
      1. The switch (must be on to operate)
      2. The BOND (or remote) Switch must be turned on
      3. The Hue lights can be controlled on and off Independent but 1 and 2 both need to be on.
      If you manually switch off with BOND when you turn it back on it will work. If you switch off the Hue you then can turn Hue back on or flip switch off and on and it will come back on.
      That might be more confusing bit just want you to have e the details. Also the fan in description was just one I found. 2ouod you like a link the the actual fan I used?

    • @rog3775
      @rog3775 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey I have the same fan and now a Bond based on this video. I am curious if your parents Bond/fan acts the same as mine. When I tell Bond to turn on the light it will only turn it on to full brightness which is too intense and not how the regular remote works. Is this your/your parents experience as well? Thanks.
    FYI: In case you didn't know, holding down the light button dims the light. It will remember the last dim setting when using the remote.

    • @TechWithBrett
      @TechWithBrett  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it works the same way. Before setting this up they had no idea that the fan could even change brightness. It would be nice to set a default brightness and fan speed.

    • @DesignStorey
      @DesignStorey 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tech With Brett - so I figured out a way around this. I deleted the light button that it auto created. I then went to add the light button again, but after it discovered the button and remote I said it was NOT my remote, this made it manually program/copy the signal from the remote. It now turns on the light at the last brightness it was set just like the original remote. Easy fix in the end.

    Does the ceiling fan have to have bluetooth / wifi capability built in?

    • @oldedwardian1778
      @oldedwardian1778 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why would you think Bluetooth was needed? in the entire video BLUETOOTH was not mentioned.
      The answer is NO.
      The same is true for WiFi.
      Communication to the Ceiling fan is done with RF, the ceiling fan MUST already have an RF remote control.

  • @dpnowak

    If the Bond device is in a separate room from a ceiling fan that uses an IR remote, how would that work? Isn't IR technology line of sight? I would think that walls would prevent the Bond device from controlling fans in a different room.

    I've been looking for this functionality for a while. I thought that the Broadlink RF might work but sadly it doesn't support my fan's frequency. This, however, looks like it would work fine, but there is absolutely no way that I'm going to spend $100 for this. I think I'll just get the right receiver/transmitter module on Aliexpress and connect it via ESP32.

    How to tell if fan is controlled by RF or Bluetooth?

  • @andreamitchell4758
    @andreamitchell4758 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    i don't understand where there is a 6 device limit though and is it just for ceiling fans or do all device categories also have a 6 device limit? seems kind of a steep price for this with it's limitations ,currently i just use a broadlink RM pro it was on $25 but it need an always on android device to act as a bridge , it was easy to srt up to work with alexa but a lot more complicated to get working with GH

    • @TechWithBrett
      @TechWithBrett  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It looks like 6 devices total. Not sure on what that is a limitation. How did you get your broadlink to work with Google Home?

    • @andreamitchell4758
      @andreamitchell4758 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      i am using this method
      th-cam.com/video/nRSR2T5GtPw/w-d-xo.html
      th-cam.com/video/ExUkiSmPVAo/w-d-xo.html
      i use the RM plugin on an old broken samsung phone i hotwired to run without a battery , you need to port forward on your router , and use a service called no ip to get a static external IP address ,i also installed a noip client android app on the phone i am using as the bridge device to update the static IP , then i use IFTTT using the GH service as the trigger and the webhooks service as the that part of the applet
      it is much easier to get it working with alexa you just use the RM plugin and enable alexa bridge , this is a really round about way of making it work but it does work, but i am also considering doing it another way , i have samsung smartthings and there is a custom device handler someone wrote for the broadlink , google "becky richa broadlink skill smartthings" and you should find it , i opted for this method instead for now because i am afraid that if i add the device handler to smart things that i might get duplicate devices showing up in my alexa smarthome due to the fact that all my RM devices are already in the alexa smart home and then it will detect them through smartthings again , i already have trouble with smartthings where my hue lights that are paired to my hue bridge show up twice in alexa smart home , once as smartthings device and again as hue device , i can't get rid of the hue copies , even though i delete them and the hue alexa skill is disabled it still detects them twice , i do not want to add to the confusion by adding the smartthings device handler and then also having all my broadlink devices show up twice too , i have not been able to ask anyone who was already using the RM plugin alexa bridge first and then set it up through smartthings after if they have had any issues with device duplicates showing up

    • @andreamitchell4758
      @andreamitchell4758 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      also be advised that broadlink has made some changes to their devices and there may be problems making them work with RM plugins alexa bridge and maybe the HTTP bridge also but i do not know that much about it and the different device model i am just glad i got my RM pro when i did

    • @MarkKindlen
      @MarkKindlen 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brett,
      I'm using RM Pro with no issues with google home. I found it pretty straight forward (here in the UK).
      I followed the below youtube guides from Paul Hibbert.
      RF Devices
      th-cam.com/video/RoJHFzh971U/w-d-xo.html
      IR Devices
      th-cam.com/video/UCVK9sTxxRk/w-d-xo.html
      I had a play with it and ultimately done a couple of things a little slightly differently but would recommend getting one to have a play with especially for the low cost.
      Keep up the great content buddy.
