Okay Hyundai really should've waited until this new gen Kona to make a Kona N, it's so much better inside and out than the old Kona. This would look so damn good in the baby blue color of true N cars.
Why would this be compared to a HR-V? The Kona N is $7k more expensive than the top of the line HR-V. It needs to be compared with the CR-V from a price standpoint.
The US HR-V is known as the ZR-V in other countries including China, Japan and Australia. It stands for Gen Z Recreation Vehicle. And yes it has a 1.5 liter turbo option and a 2.0 hybrid. In other countries, another vehicle, smaller, looking like a baby CR-V, and based on a smaller platform, is called the HR-V and has 1.5 naturally aspirated and turbo options. Being two separate vehicles, they can also be marketed simultaneously in the same region.
15 years ago the first Kia arrived in the Netherlands, now Kia is the best selling brand in the Netherlands, vw 2nd, Toyota 4th..... . Hyundai also hugley popular. Excellent fit and finish, warranty, build quality and lot of EV's, recipe for incredible succes.
I'd still take Corolla cross hybrid over this. This has better materials, handles better, and is way quieter ... but cch 40mpg and is noticeably faster and costs less

Nice to see rear seating adding the capability of carrying four 6’1” adults comfortably in the AWD. The FWD torsion beam erases those gains for zero cost savings to the manufacturer. Hey USB-C’s on the other launch day.😏 22:21
Attractive design. Nice car, but the price is too high. This model is more expensive than a base GTI which is definitely faster and considered a class above even though the GTI's all touch capacitive dash controls are terrible.
You keep saying "hyundai/kia hybrids are good" and this is a lie. They make them parallel hybrids out of conventional gas models ))) unlike toyota/honda who have their clean sheed design hybrids. Kia/hyundai don't have the same efficiency as honda/toyota (tested). PHEVs are total trash, they don't run in EV mode if you smash the gas. They don't have heat pump. They are bad. Efficiency is bad. Power is bad. Reliability is a big question. The Sonata Hybrid is good on gas but is the slowest in it's class. The new one is even slower.
An actual Kona N with a manual would be delighted

The Honda HR-V seriously needs a turbo engine or a hybrid option to compete with this. The HR-V is so wimpy compared to this Kona N-Line

For me, its interior feels so impressive, almost class leading.
The limited with the gray interior is absolutely class leading
Only complaint I have is the shifter on the steering column.

The problem with car journalists is that every single car is the best, these are extended car commercials.

So the base powertrain is same as the Soul's and the turbo variant is from the K5.
It's about time Hyundai got it. That DCT was awful! Glad it's gone. The 8-speed auto is a welcome change!

The removal of the turbo 2L is a no-go for me. 1.6 Turbo garbage. Never will buy it.
