    I don't eat enough and I do binge once I get to eating more. Yeah, anxiety eating. Never learned how to cook much and bored of what I eat. I also worry about money because I don't have much and prices keep going up. I hope to learn how to pick up enough groceries to last me one week and be secure I can feed myself each day. If I can do that I'll see how how much it costs me and focus on healthier eating later.

    This could not have come at a better time. Decades of binge eating and still trying to sort myself out, still veering between one last diet and ditching the diet mentality. As I sit here listening at 1am, feeling so ill from todays binge eating which I think will prevent me from leaving the house tomorrow morning to go on holiday, due to the effect it's had on my stomach (sorry tmi!), I feel once again that I HAVE to get better. I'm 61 and the realisation that I have been binge eating longer than I have not is so upsetting. Once again Sarah, thank you for all the content x

    I am watching this video every morning to remind myself how to eat.. the black or white thinking, perfectionism vs rebellion, that’s what leads me to bingeing. This video is a great reminder that a calm balance between the two is what’s going to rid me of this horrible eating… problem? Lol

    This is the second video I've watched on your channel and I am amazed at how helpful and practical your content is. I was in an eating "problem" group therapy for over 20 years and we NEVER talked about what you are talking about! Intuitive eating was encouraged but we never had any help with that, no road map. So it just ended up being, eat what you want and get used to being fat. My personal experience (that I discovered completely on my own) is that when I limit my carb and sugar intake it helps me from binging. That's just me. I also cannot have just one cigarette but I know people who can. But the cycle of perfectionism and failure is still repeating itself, which is why your content is so helpful. Thank you.

      I’m glad my content is helpful for you ❤️❤️ In terms of the sugar/low carb thing, I would love if you would consider watching this conversation. In my opinion it is the best episode we’ve ever recording and speaks to what you’re talking about: th-cam.com/video/HmtkFgG8AnY/w-d-xo.html

    I'm so sorry to hear about that TH-cam restrictions issue! That sucks! It pains me to learn that the great content you put out for people will not be visible to everyone in need :/ I really hope this doesn't discourages you to keep adding videos.
    I stopped the video to put down this comment but I'm really glad you covered this topic. Two weeks ago or so I decided to try intuitive eating and I did my first grocery run after at least 15 years of constantly being on a diet or thinking I should be. I was very enthusiastic when I was leaving for the supermarket - at last free to get anything I want with no guilt! However as soon as I saw the chocolate and cookies aisle I got really confused. I stood there for like 5 minutes trying to make any decision on what to get, completely paralised :D The shop was closing soon so I retracted in resignation thinking "I'll try again next time". I had no idea how weirdly difficult knowing what I actually want is going to be, at least if it comes to formerly "bad" products. I'm taking the intuitive shopping one grocery run at a time ;P
    Thanks again for your videos!

    I heard about the new YT restrictions and wondered how you might be affected. I know where they're coming from, but your content doesn't encourage risky behavior. It's sad.
    Thank you for your calm gentle voice recentering me in my food decision making. I hadn't realized that I had gotten a little frenetic over food choices (A lot of "shoulds) and you brought me back down. I LOVE your acronym. Short and sweet, easy to remember. That's for me. GOLD!
    I wonder if you realize the difference in you and your comfort level here in this video to your early ones? You have so much more confidence now, and your humor is wonderful. I know it must have been frightening at the start to say and do just the right things. What a pleasure it's been being witness to your growth.
    Thank you for this video.

    Hi Sarah. The whole process of making food decisions is traumatic for me, from checking what I need to buy and what I already have (I mostly skip this part and end up with waste 😔) to the actual shopping, online mostly but then I get frustrated so quit or forget to check out because I’m overwhelmed, to deciding what’s for tea, usually last minute leading to poor decisions and binges because there’s nothing suitable/quick and by then I’m exhausted from chronic pain and fatigue.
    I actually detest food. I wish it didn’t exist. I feel resentful towards it. I just don’t know how to make peace with food. I watch all your content, listen to the podcasts, yet I’m still struggling to dip my toe into recovery. 😢

      ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 I created this video at this time as it’s also what I need to hear right now. Recipe boxes have been my life saver to help me with all of the reasons you listed. Being in NYC has thrown everything out of the window and making calm decisions has not always been easy.
      I hope you can find a way to get some rhythm and regulation ❤️❤️

    • @suedower7579
      @suedower7579 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheBingeEatingTherapist it can be really jarring can’t it, to have this real visceral hatred for something that we need to stay alive. I’ve used recipe boxes a few times in the past, I usually cancel after the promo periods though 😬 I do love them though as they do take away the decision making fairly substantially. Plus my 13yo daughter has shown an interest in cooking so maybe I can get her on board with it!
      Hope you’re enjoying NYC and it’s not too overwhelming. 😍😍

      If Sarah was advertising her t-shirt this would be a wonderful comment and you’re a lovely person to spend the 2 mins it takes to tell her that but she’s talking about binge eating and it stems from body image and how others people opinion on our looks impact our eating. Thank you! This video made me cry, but in a good way that I can't explain. It's realizing what happens to me and being sad and relieved at the same time. Unfortunately knowing what makes me binge doesn't help me not do it. The bad voice is stronger than the good one. I hope mindfulness will eventually change me. I've been trying to do it for 3 years - watching Eckhart Tolle and Allan Watts. But I believe in this wisdom and I will not give up.

      Quick question, do you have any advice for what to do if other people are making you feel restricted?
      I normally do great if I fast, but on a recent down swing, my family has decided to intervene with '3 square meals'. I have found myself emotionally eating after each meal, because the calories are adding up, but I'm not satisfied because the experience of self reliance and calmness is not there. It's like I'm being stopped, checkmated out of helping myself, and getting pushed/set up to rebound in a completely new wrong direction.

    • @TheBingeEatingTherapist
      @TheBingeEatingTherapist  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@densedecisions4568 You’ve been encouraged to go from fasting to 3 meals a day, which sounds like the opposite of restricting to me (?) I’m not sure I fully understand the situation, but what pops to mind is how black and white thinking makes it seem ‘easier’ to fast than to eat regularly. Three square meals, plus snacks if required seems wise to me. Your question alludes to some emotional eating after meals, which feels like a different question altogether.

    • @densedecisions4568
      @densedecisions4568 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheBingeEatingTherapist I will likely need/crave (Not physically require.) because of the breakfast both don't support my health or my mental health.
      It keeps me in a cycle of every meal being for two reasons: People pleasing/being spineless>>>Coping with the former
      The 'restricted' feeling comes from sitting down for a meal because I couldn't say no. A surplus of calories, but a deficit of intellectual autonomy.
      As long as the emotional eating keeps getting triggered, my health, appearance (literally, bloating) and therefore ability to stand up people because they can (genuinely or gaslightingly, makes no difference.) claim they're helping.
      It's like having a car accident because of a backseat driver, but the backseat driver hasn't had an accident, and therefore is more qualified to decide what to do.
