I Love Lucy is an American television sitcom starring Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance, and William Frawley. The black-and-white series originally ran from October 15, 1951, to May 6, 1957, on CBS. All 180 episodes aired on Mondays.
In total 180 episodes of I Love Lucy were produced, plus a pilot episode. The pilot, which was not made for broadcast and did not air as part of the show's original run, is generally not counted as one of the episodes and therefore listed separately for reference. It is, however, available on DVD and Blu-ray releases of the first season. Following I Love Lucy, a further 13 one hour-long episodes were produced under the title of The Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Show (later and more commonly known in syndication as The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour) with the same cast and later packaged as seasons 7, 8 & 9 under the I Love Lucy series.
This is such a happy episode, and so much of it isn’t acting-Lucille Ball actually WAS pregnant during the filming, and cried real tears during the final number. I also love the friendship moments between Lucy and Ethel, and how happy Ethel is to be in on Lucy’s secret. It’s so fantastic that we have these memories to share! :)

Yes, the scene with Ethel was very sweet, but I was struck that in a moment of such high emotion they never hugged or even touched. People were a lot less touchy-feely back then.
This changed a lot of things in terms of how pregnancy was depicted in the media. Fun Fact: The episode where Lucy gives birth to Little Ricky, was actually timed to Lucille Ball's real life delivery of Desi Jr.

Lucille ball was six months pregnant here. So this was all beautiful and authentic moments on this episode. I just adore this episode. She's so cute when she has that smile on her face finding out she pregnant here. ✨✨✨

It's was always so funny to me how far along Lucille actually was when the show tries to pass off Lucy as just finding out. TV has changed!
I was going to say the same thing. She’s really showing here, and they were trying to pretend it’s not that obvious. It’s strange considering what a perfectionist Lucille Ball was otherwise when doing the show.
I think, in the '90s, many actresses were pregnant on sitcoms
Instead of writing that into the storyline, though, the writers went the subtle route, and hid their stomachs behind huge props
In the nanny, for example, Lauren lane was pregnant in the last season
She was very far along by the time they were filming
So, her stomach was huge! Therefore, her tummy was hidden behind huge props!

She'd better tell him quick, she's already out to here. It's fun to see how they try to hide the baby bump in the previous episodes.
Lucy was already 6mo pregnant (and they already prerecorded six episodes as if she had the baby ) therefore after the episode "Lucy goes to the Hospital"..as Lucy was on leave they played the six episodes Lucy return to the show "no kids allowed"💯💯❤️❤️

Such a beautiful and sweet episode. Too bad Hulu doesn't have it. It's so upsetting how Hulu doesn't have many I love Lucy episodes.

In Desi’s book, he says Lucy got big early in her pregnancies, so they had to cover her “bump”. Desi Jr. was born on Eisenhower’s Inauguration Day, and knocked news of the Inauguration off the front page. The word “pregnant “ could not be said on TV.
Lucy was already six months pregnant in this episode...
(Reason being bcuz production recorded 6 episodes b4 this episode aired) therefore during her six weeks rest after birth (they continue to play the 6 unaired episodes) until Lucy returns back to the studio "no kids allow" was her 1st day back. FACT💯
Ethel spent more time in the Ricardo's apartment than she did in her own apartment.

She’s obviously several months along in her pregnancy so it’s funny they’re even questioning it or that Ricky wouldn’t have noticed.
Lucy has no idea that she was pregnant ( but she was really pregnant at the time) She was almost showing. Back in those days mentioned the word pregnant was taboo.
So hilarious the way they had said their dialouge and facial expressions 😅😅

Being pregnant itself was not taboo. The word just wasn't allowed to be SAID on television back then. You had to say 'expecting' or as Desi said it in numerous interviews "spectin" which always got a big laugh! Plus, up until I Love Lucy it wasn't allowed to be SHOWN. This show was the breakthrough and it was okay because Lucy WAS actually pregnant AND she was also married to Desi in real life so it somehow kind of 'sanitized' the issue for television.

I'm positive from Ethel and Fred's reactions and love for little Ricky that they did intend to have children in their younger days, but it didn't happen for them. Little Ricky was the closest they had. They only area that Fred wasn't a pinny pincher on was Little Ricky. He splurged on him.
