So, am I correct in assuming the clutch assembly doesn't have to be removed to replace the timing chain? I ask, because I've heard conflicting information regarding this topic. The KTM service manual shows the timing gear and chain being removed after the clutch assembly is removed. However, at about the 2:07 mark in your video, you're clearly installing the gear and chain after the clutch basket is installed. So, unless I'm missing something, this leaves me to assume I could do a timing chain removal and replacement without removing the clutch assembly.
hey bro. I have a problem.you have a pump shaft on the motor, and mine took off with the lid. Today I could not put it back. Can you give me advice on how to do this?
Hey there! I’m rebuilding this exact motor and I’m having issues getting everything timed correctly(this is my first KTM and I can’t see any sort of timing marks on the bottom end). How did you get your motor timed?
skilled! If you have a mo could you give me some tips on measuring the valve clearances. I have the cam cover off but I can't rotate the wheel to get tdc, I have the plug out, few people saying to just tap the starter to get tdc but I'm worried if I can't move it by hand. cam chain looks fine, had no problems been riding and starting fine. cheers
How did you clean your cases so well? Mine have been tarnished from caked on mud, and I'm thinking I would have to sand blast them to clean them, but I am scared of using a blaster near machined surfaces/oil channels/seals etc.
I have a 2013 250 sxf and I can't tell if my oil is leaking behind the water pump or the valve cover gasket?? Any thoughts? You obviously know what's up with these engines
HI I need to replace timing chain on my sxf, I reasamble top end, as I understand I need to take off cluch and water pump cover, what than? do I need some special tools for that? tnx
Cebastien Larochelle the difference is very little but the engines and the bikes themselves is the difference they all make their own type of bike some can be reliable some cannot depends but I like KTM because of the quality and the electric start but don't get huskys they are shit
a husky is literally the exact same bike. Engine platform is identical. biggest difference is the carbon composite subframe on the husky vs aluminum on the ktm. Which actually works in its favor because the airbox is reshaped and makes slightly better power
I took the gear off from the bottom, so it wasn't necessary to cut off the chain, when i dismantle the engine. The chain is easy to put back on when the chain tensioner is loosed. You don't need tools for that.
itelläni ku on ktm sx-f 250 vm 2007 nii osaisitko sanoo mikä on vikanu ku nesteisiin tulee hirmuset paineet ja vaikka jäähytysletkut on hyvin nii silti työntää letkujen välistä nestettä voisko vika olla kannetiiviste tai kansipaskana
DjLeonn1 There shouldnt be a gasket for that. Even from factory they put a liquid gasket like what he used. Its not red silicone. Its a high heat liquid gasket.
Can't believe you revved it when it's just been built like cmon you have to leave like a min or two because you will blow it up and take it easy aswell you put too much pressure on the bike Don't think im a know it all it's just facts Also don't get huskys
Great job looks fun. Thank you for showing us this video.
Pretty awesome vid man! Fair play! Neat job!
Thanks man!
Love it ! ... I can see you know what ur doing there
Good clean job, what happened to the timing?
she sounds good!!!
after installing the cams and the cam chain tensioners did you rotate the motor over? mine keeps jump timing.
I like it alot. But i would polish up the engine cases to so they look fresh again !
How long did you work on this engine ??

Try to rotate the motor from the flywheel to get motor to TDC and then you can measure valve clearance.
I managed thanks for the reply. Was a pretty easy job after I knew what I was doing!
you had any issues with the OEM cam chain tensioner?
dan reed No. It has worked fine.
Hey i have a 2007 sxf 250 its there a problem if I replaced my camshaft intake with the 2009 model ?
What kind of sealant did you use for the cases?
What model year is this bike?
what year is the engine your working on?
2011
Hello ! Nice job, clean :!!
Im ready to perform the same job on a 530 EXC , time lapse with a go pro.. what is your picture interval ? every 5 sec ?

I have used just a brake cleaner and a brush, but mine cases didnt were very dirty.
Try oven cleaner and brush

How to put the piston in tdc to install gear primary .?? j
Just pulls on the crankshaft
could I get this full video slowed down

Hard to say where is leak if I don't see the engine, but it might be the valve cover gasket.
dang, theres gotta be at LEAST 30 or 40 parts in that thing!

what the difference between a japanese bike like a suzuki, yamaha or honda and a ktm? the price? does it need special tools?
I think they almost the same but japanese parts little cheaper
thanks ^^
+Cebastien Larochelle KTM engines quality is higher. The price of parts is cheaper compared to Japanese ones in my country.

Where did you learn to do this?
Learned myself and from internet :D
+Juho Halonen that's awesome. How much did it cost?
urmomis13 abaut 500€ and changed all the bearings, seals, con rod & piston
+Juho Halonen how hard is it to learn? I have a 2012 sxf
urmomis13 not very hard just take it apart and remember what part goes where
awesome, I want to replace piston on my sxf, i didnt see that you use some tool when assebling chain how did you do it?

I cant start my ktm 250 sxf its hard to start . Nothing wrong with the engine, compresian its gud, sparkplug Gud, fuel ok still cant running
Ok enjoy good

Paha sanoo, mut saattaa olla tukos jossain
nice
red silicone = fail, only gasket

why wont my chain go back on when yours is fucking loose ? lol
Heh

Nicely done. Did you use oem crankshaft assembly? Getting ready to do my 2007 and was considering buying a "wrench rabbit " kit instead of oem ktm.
