For those who are curious and wondering. The male singer reminded us of the lead singer of Pakistani band Fuzon amd here is the the link to song. Pretty similar texture of voice and both sound amazing:

You can't compare it to others because Nazrul Islam composed and composed the ghazal in Bangabd 1333 (1926 AD), which was first recorded and published in the voice of K. Mallick. This song was first released in 1928 by the then His Masters Voice Record Company from Calcutta during Durga Puja week.

The song "Bagichay Bulbuli tui" was written when our beloved Kazi Nazrul Islam's second son Orindom Khaled(Bulbul) was sick and later he died at the age of 4/5! Nazrul hadn't much much money for the treatment. Just imagine guys, A father, A National Poet had to write the song for money to save his child but he couldn't save him !!!!

When you try to draw similarities between the performers or the culture, it's understandable that you mean it in the best way possible, but Bengali is not a sub-culture. So, any Bengali with even a hint of self-actualization does not take it as a compliment. These are neither Atif Aslams, nor Arijit Singhs. You may not have been exposed to us before, but the undivided Bengal always had mega-stars in every field one could think of, each in their own rights. So, try to appreciate what you see or hear for its own sake. There is simply no comparison.

Thanks for your honest take on our review. We have just begun to explore the Bengali music and I am sure we will find many more gems. There is a difference between doing comparison and drawing similarity. Comparison can sometimes undermine people and can hurt their sentiments. On the other hand finding similarities can bring people and different cultures to a common ground to appreciate and respect each other. This is what we intend to do and will keep on doing. Bangladesh has its own unique cultural heritage and history, and its definitely not a byproduct of any other culture! Peace!

You guys nailed the song narrative. The male singer who sang the gazal represented the garden, and the female singer represented the bulbul (songbird). A trivia here, the female part of the song is not a part of the original gazal; it is added as an answer to the gazal by the coke studio team. In the opening verse, the garden asks the bulbul not to shake the flower branches as spring has not yet come. Then, he goes by how the bees are slumbering, how flowers have not yet bloomed, northern winds are still blowing, and the warm southern breeze has not yet arrived. In the second verse, he is lamenting when this spring will come, when the flowers will bloom, and when the dewdrops will wake up the garden. Then, in the last verses, the bulbul starts answering that no one is waking up while she is shaking the flower branches. But she will wake up everyone for sure as the spring has come. Then, she asks the bees and flowers to wake up as the southern wind has come.

As the garden asked Bulbul not the wake up sleeping flowers cause fagun (spring) yet to be here. But Bulbul is calling her sleeping friends to wake up as the northern breeze is telling that the spring is on it's way. It's almost here, and Bulbul is definitely going to wake up her friends.

Just to give some context, when the song was written, Bangladesh was not liberated yet. In fact, Pakistan may not have been born yet either or maybe have been in its infancy. The national poet of present-day Bangladesh was born in and had mostly written in British India where Urdu is only one of its many languages. So, using a Hindi/Urdu word or phrase was natural for him as part of his daily vocab, nothing to be hyped about. We kept the songs unchanged and pronounce the words he would have while singing or reciting, despite having a local pronunciation. Like "ghazal" is actually pronounced " (gha)gaw" like "saw" and "(jal) joL" like "roll". As I said, there is truly nothing to be hyped about when something seems similar. You don't know the whole picture.

Its a ghazal on Raag Bhairavi(Hindustani). Hindustani music, emerged as a distinct form due to Persian influences in North India. So after listening this song there is absolutely nothing wrong for U finding similarities and doing comparison of any sort. The Poet himself would have loved it very much. Don't bother with thumbs ups; likes and all other nonsense. Your honesty is the most important attribute. Now Lets talk a little about Nazrul!
The poet had studied classical music(Hindustani) carefully and has experimented with different ragas like dhrupad, kheyal, thumri, tappa and ghazal. The genius music Maestro Dilip Kumar Roy (Son of Dwijendralal Ray) was his Mentor and very close friend. In Kolkata he took lessons on classical music from renowned Ustads like Ustad Jamiruddin Khan. Nazrul believed that the 'rasa' that classical music could create could not be done with modern music.
At young age Nazrul joined the British 49 Bengal Regiment and was posted to Karachi which lasted about two and half years. During his stay in the army, Nazrul learnt Persian from the regiment's Punjabi moulvi. Practiced music with other musical-minded soldiers to the accompaniment of local and foreign instruments and at the same time pursued literary activities in both prose and poetry. In that period he acquired the taste for Persian poems and learned the beauty of ghazals. He was under great influence of Omar Khayyam, Hafez, Molana Rumi and such. Nazrul’s most notable among translations are his translations of the rubaiya of Omar Khayyam and Hafiz.
He referred to Persian archetypes with as much ease as he did ancient Hindu ones.
He used Sanskrit and Arabic metres as easily as he did traditional Bangla ones.
In 1921 one of Nazrul's famous poem 'Kamal Pasha' demonstrated Nazrul's sense of contemporary international history and the hollowness of the Indian Khilafat movement. Nazrul was most deeply influenced by the leadership of Mostafa Kamal Pasha, who had overthrown the feudal sultanate and turned Turkey into a secular and modern republic. Nazrul was particularly impressed by the way Kamal Pasha had removed fundamentalism from Turkish society as well as got women to give up their veils. He wondered why the reforms in Turkey could not be replicated in India and Bengal.
So what does it tell us? Nazrul belongs to no community, no religion, no nation, no land, no language. Nazrul was and will always be the singing Bird of Humanity, Freedom and Love.
"Even though I was born in this country (Bengal), in this society, I don't belong to just this locale. I belong to the world" -- Nazrul.

This classic song was written by Kazi Nazrul Islam who is the national poet of Bangladesh. He stayed quite a few months in a landlord's house at Becharam Dewri Road in Old Dhaka. Inside the big arena of that house there was a beautiful flower garden. Nazrul observed beautiful black birds called “Bulbuli” always play around in the garden. So one day he wrote this amazing melodious song. maybe in 1926. And the songs written by Nazrul Islam called Nazrul Geeti have a separate patent in Bangali songs.Firoza Begum is considered to be the best artist of this type of song.

Some words are shared in the sub-continent. When a word is adopted in a language, after a few decades, it is referred to as a part of the carrier language. Nobody likes it to be referred to as part of something else. Assamese, Gujarati, Nepali, and Hindi - are all quite similar to Bengali phonetically. Hindi and Bengali are probably the most similar not just phonetically, but many words carry the same meaning as they both are born from Sanskrit. In the end, people identify them as their own, not as someone else's tongue. So, be mindful when you are commenting on the language.

    Bulbuli
    By Kazi Nazrul Islam
    Bulbul in the garden
On flower boughs, don't you swing today.
    Even now
    The flower buds sleep,
    In slumberous disarray.

    Even now
    On empty boughs
    The northern winds
    Sway all day.

The bees have not come yet
    Singing their gospel (ghazal)
    Drunk in honey
    As the southerly winds dictate.

    When will the flower princess
Part her veil to reveal herself?
    The kiss of dew
    Will break their sleep,
    Make their cheeks red.

    Swing, swing, I swing away
    Does the sleep ever break?
    Spring has come calling
    Now wake up my friend.

Surely I may break your sleep
In hopes not in craze I remain awake,
    The southerlies come
And the birds and bees remain enamored in your love.

    Wake, wake, wake O' partner
    Spring has come yonder,
    The south winds come calling
Where is my beloved? I wonder.

You can react on Rituraj's "Kanar Hatbazar". It is a, more than hundred years old, folk song by Lalon Sai ji...very much popular, kind of spiritual song. Rituraj did very well there.
"Kanar Hatbazar" means the place where everyone is blind. There, everyone tries to direct other person to his/her faith for reaching at the ultimate direction. But in reality, he doesn't really know the way to reach there for sure. He is blind of his belief.

Oh wow! Thanks for explaining us the context for “Kanar Haat Bazar”. We have recorded our review for “Kanar Haat Bazar” from Gaang Bangla channel and will upload it today. The version that you are mentioning is probably a different one but it would be fun to evaluate that too and see different variations of the same song.

Hey I guess you will be pleased to find out that in this sub-continent, Bangla rock is incomparable. Truly. Artcell, James (Nagar Baul), LRB, Black, Warfaze and at least 50 more other bands. haha. Appreciate your love for the music. Coke Studio Pakistan has been a joy in my life. Hope Coke Studio Bangla can bring some joy there too. And you rightly mentioned few of the GAan Bangla fusions were awesome.

If you guys like progressive metal, you can try songs of "artcell", the most popular band right now in Bangladesh. I would request you just to listen, not to create reaction video (because of copyright issues, not sure though, saying just for your good). The young generation of Bangladesh forgot any other music (being obsessed with artcell songs)for couple of years. Cheers 👍

Let me know the most authentic music from Pakistan and India comes from Bengali, the SD Barman and Rabin gosh from east Bengal now Bangladesh!!!
And only one south Asian Band got a chance to perform wacken which is Trainwreck from Bangladesh.
We sub-continent ppl only know and try to find something related to Bollywood only this is bad. Every culture is rich.

But do you know that Minar Rahman has satisfied the thirst for music of the people of Bangladesh almost single-handedly for a long time? I hope you will listen to Minar's songs and react with an open mind. "Tumi Tomar Moto" "Karone Okarone" "Ki Tomar Naam" "Ta Jani Na" "Deyale Deyale" Some of his many hit songs. I hope you will keep my request. Best wishes.
