Unfortunately when I tried to open a movie file from the phone, the program started to copy it to the phone instead of just open it. Finally I realized that VLC can also access the shared folder and do not try to copy the files, just play it.

You don't need another application for this. This feature is already implemented into My files app. Also trusting a 3rd party app to access your files isn't safe at all. Your welcome.

I was doing the same thing as you shown in the video and it was working well but from the last 2-3 days I am getting some issue while transferring the files from shared folder to my phone.. Everytime when I am moving the items from shared folder to android phone getting this error msg "Can't Move".. i'm becoming insane to accomplish shares. my android devices (both phone and tablet) correctly see the Desktop PC containing the shares. But when I try connecting to it, I get "could not connect to device with user .." I've tried using my Desktop PC credentials, no dice. Also tried removing password protected shares altogether and connecting as anonymous, no dice again. I'm on the verge of activating SMB1 component on the W10 desktop, but i'm not sure it will change anything. If there's some other way, pls advice.

Brother Dude - You have coupe of options from here. first setting allows you to connect even without password.(but less secure). 2nd option you need to set password for your account if you do not have one currently. 1. Go to Control Panel > Network and sharing center > Change advanced sharing settings > Enable Turn Off password protect sharing option. By doing the above settings we can access the shared folder without any username/password. Not working bdw. I'm using my phone as hotspot device and connecting with PC on wifi and using the same phone to access shared folder. Is this the problem? Edit: working after turning on windows features SMB. share the folder only to the windows user id for which your friends don't know password. You can control this at the share tab of your folder in computer.

Friend, Depends on your wifi router, Some routers allow you to share printer (in that case the router will have print server program running on your router, you may need to enable it in router admin page) Some routers allow you to use it for network storage, like the one that you try (in that case the router will have File server program running on your router, you may need to enable it in router admin page)) Some may allow you to access via ftp or sftp port. Doesn't reliably work. Windows 11 and Android 14 file transfer by USB cable works at least once and then you need to restart Windows 11 for subsequent reconnections.

We have an old usb stick plugged into our router. I can access it from the Nvidia Shield after mounting. However on my phone it can't access the drive, the ip address is definitely correct. We are using the guest option. On the iPad it can see the usb1 folder but can't read the contents. Think the drive is formatted as FAT32, should I format as NTFS? Appreciate any advice. I'm considering running a small home nas from the Shield and just want to know that i can definitely access it from phone and tablets. Thanks in advance :)

Think I might be using the wrong username and password, I only know the "admin" and the password. We are changing service provider and apparently the new router won't allow memory stick to connect as nas. So I'd like to use a drive connected to the Nvidia Shield as a nas. it didn't work at first. than later I found that sharing will not work if the PC account is an Microsoft account method! so I changed the account to local account then worked! Windows sucks! thanks for the video

Hi, I suddenly realise that there are unknown computers showing in my phone "local network", I can open the files and I saw that it's someone I know. Could it be that the person is spying on me because I can't remember connecting my phone to his computer. Two of his computers are connected to my phone, so it means I am been monitored. How do I disconnect my phone from all the computers monitoring me?

Bro this isn't working for me. I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro so Mi File Manager is preinstalled. When I go to search it's in a never ending loop. How do I find the IP manually? I tried whatismyip.com but that IP doesn't work. I install CX and all if finds is the modem and connects to that. My modem is connected to a Ubiquiti Nanostation M2 that gets a WiFi signal from the router - though that should be irrelevant.

The network is setup to assign a dynamic IP to the PC and as I said that whatismyip.com doesn't work. Also with the network login to the PC when I boot up, is the login the email address, not the display name? At least I know I've got them on the same network. One thing right 🤣

Friend - In some phones the default file managers comes with these features. Pls check. Even if you don't trust the file manager that i have suggested, search in play store for network file manager. Then choose the one that you trust. Never install these out of play store. Good luck & if you find it helpful please like subscribe to my channel.
That's the problem.. Android has never included any kind of browser with simple LAN support. They'll let you connect everything to a cloud network... but still have no native apps to simply connect to and use/browse/view/share on a local area network. They want your data. They want you connected and able to see what you do. Seriously. But yeah, the Files app (formerly My Files) doesn't support this. I use ES Explorer.. it has everything. EVERYTHING. But use whatever you want, that's not my point. A little humor, here, but you're a boomer and thought your "My Files" app was the same app as the one in the video lol.

Some routers allow you to share printer (in that case the router will have print server program running on your router, you may need to enable it in router admin page)
Some routers allow you to use it for network storage, like the one that you try (in that case the router will have File server program running on your router, you may need to enable it in router admin page))
Some may allow you to access via ftp or sftp port.
In some routers USB port is just used to update the firmware, nothing more.
So please check router manual and accordingly try.

Doesn't reliably work. Windows 11 and Android 14 file transfer by USB cable works at least once and then you need to restart Windows 11 for subsequent reconnections.

We have an old usb stick plugged into our router. I can access it from the Nvidia Shield after mounting. However on my phone it can't access the drive, the ip address is definitely correct. We are using the guest option. On the iPad it can see the usb1 folder but can't read the contents. Think the drive is formatted as FAT32, should I format as NTFS? Appreciate any advice. I'm considering running a small home nas from the Shield and just want to know that i can definitely access it from phone and tablets. Thanks in advance :)

Think I might be using the wrong username and password, I only know the "admin" and the password. We are changing service provider and apparently the new router won't allow memory stick to connect as nas. So I'd like to use a drive connected to the Nvidia Shield as a nas. not required, it works based on LAN or WIFI. As long as same network (connected to same router) it should work.

Bro this isn't working for me. I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro so Mi File Manager is preinstalled. When I go to search it's in a never ending loop. How do I find the IP manually? I tried whatismyip.com but that IP doesn't work. I install CX and all if finds is the modem and connects to that. My modem is connected to a Ubiquiti Nanostation M2 that gets a WiFi signal from the router - though that should be irrelevant.

2. Try pinging from pc to Mobile's private ip.
3. Try configuring PC's ip in file manager manually instead auto scan.

Also with the network login to the PC when I boot up, is the login the email address, not the display name?

Friend - In some phones the default file managers comes with these features. Pls check.
Even if you don't trust the file manager that i have suggested, search in play store for network file manager. Then choose the one that you trust. Never install these out of play store.

That's the problem.. Android has never included any kind of browser with simple LAN support. They'll let you connect everything to a cloud network... but still have no native apps to simply connect to and use/browse/view/share on a local area network. They want your data. They want you connected and able to see what you do. Seriously.
But yeah, the Files app (formerly My Files) doesn't support this. I use ES Explorer.. it has everything. EVERYTHING. But use whatever you want, that's not my point. A little humor, here, but you're a boomer and thought your "My Files" app was the same app as the one in the video lol.
