Akaso Brave 8 has a new firmware- Is it an improvement?

- I have not checked for firmware updates on action cameras in quite a while and low and behold, there is a new firmware for the Akaso Brave 8 via the Akaso phone app (IOS) Finally Supersmooth EIS is working on the App with good results but let's see if everything was an improvement on this so called budget action camera !

Hey man! Thank you for this video. I am currently shopping around for budget options after the release of the new DJI and the GoPro 11. That being said your video about the firmware update proved that, even if somewhat annoying to go through an app, the EIS stabilizer really does work quite well, possibly even on par with the hero 10. The over exposure I can always fix post, and if that’s really the only major complaint, this may be my best low budget action option as a budding creator. I think this camera in my opinion is the first Akaso cam with very good audio!

Yes this Akaso does have much better sounding audio for sure. I'm feeling pretty good, still some long Covid symptoms (fatigue, shortness of breath). Yes this Fig Tree has a strong will to live and I'm so glad it's still alive. Thanks for watching Hiram !
Looking at this video quality compared to your previous video of this camera, the other firmware looks better, this one does not look at good.

Fig tree is looking great! These action cams are losing out to flagship phones more and more, unless you need the ruggedness of course. I was on the fence about getting a hero 7 black forzn angle on drums, but my Samsung S21 ultra actually probably does better for that. Happy Easter buddy!
I very happy about the Fig tree ! It has a strong will to live. Yes cell phones are offering such great performance for photo and video, in another year or 5 there it will make more sense to not get a camera at all :) Happy Easter to you as well. !

How do I get out of the “Timeout” screen? I tried 3x to connect to the WiFi on my phone and the camera was not connecting. After 3rd attempt it timed out and I cannot get passed it.
You have to go into the menu ( I think swipe down) turn on Wi-Fi on the camera, then go to phone settings to Wi-Fi and select Akaso from your phones Wi-Fi list, enter factory password THEN open Akaso app and connect. Hope this helps
I am looking for a cheap action camera for Scuba shots. picture quality being the best but i cant break the budget of $135 so its pretty tight. What would you reccomend?

I usually don’t, but a few action cameras require an app to do a firmware update, most others from their website. After updating I usually delete the app again lol

Yes I’m very happy the Fig tree is still alive ! Having fresh fruit from your own yard is so good. Yeah I love the dog but the frequency of her bark is a bit annoying. Thanks for watching
Glad to see those trees are still kickin. You’re out and around so the leg must be doing better too. I still use my Akaso V50x out in the garage working on the old Dodge Demon. But the sound was never great even with it’s mic. I still use my “Old” Sony handy cam, it holds up. I always have my iPhone SE gen 1 with me. But the new toy thats fun, its different is the Insta360 One X2. Going to be warm this week, so I have to get it hooked up on my bike. If it works well, maybe I’ll try it on the Harley. Hi! I am looking to buy a camera for my live streams (so I care very little about image stabilization) and I had thought about getting an action camera for their low price despite the good image quality and wide angle witch is basically all i care about, in fact when compared to a webcam of the same price any action cam looks like a dslr lol... I also don't care about the microphone since I'm using an external one connected to my pc...
I have heard that many akaso cams have the possibility of being used as a webcam without a capture card..
what would you recommend me around 100$? (if you think there is a better solution than an action cam please tell me)

nice to see your fig tree is coming back the video dose look a lot better thew the app the only way i can see to fix the over exposer is to edit it

That app stabilization looks pretty good. I've been playing around with the updated Reelsteady (which I upgraded to for free) and, just as you mentioned, it does have to crop to smooth everything out.

The downside is that it only works with GoPro, but I suppose other companies' stabilization apps are the same way: proprietary.
How would you share the footage with a friend , not using TH-cam ?
Put the footage on a thumb drive and give it to them, or upload it to Dropbox

Which budget action cam would you currently recommend?
I like the picture and sound quality of the brave 8, but it's still a little too expensive for me. The Brave 7 seems to be fairly priced, but the videos look a bit choppy in motion.
What alternatives could you recommend in the price range of the Brave 7? Maybe a used GoPro, or should I wait for the Brave 8 to get cheaper?
Definitely look at a used Hero 7 or 8 as the Brave 8 still can’t complete with them

Hi Andrew I'm in the hunt for an action camera but have a budget of about £150 ( I live in the uk ) I've been following your reviews for about a year and whittled the cameras down to one of the xtu's preferably the Max pro and tried to order one but my order was cancelled and money refunded ( don't know why ) but have given up on the xtu's. The osmo action has jumped in price. The akaso have awful internal mic sound which is important to me. ( would take one that has external Mic if sound is decent ) I'm not too fussy about the picture resolution or how many bells and whistles it has but would like reasonable eis.
One thing I'd like from the camera is to have a good android software app that's not too buggy. With your knowledge of the many offerings can you point me in the right direction?

Akaso still need to work on the the firmware. Your dog wasn't moving normal by the fence and the dogs image at that point wasn't sharp. Once your dog came to the light, clear and detailed. Thanks for showing this.

You know I'm going to say it, it's way too overpriced for what it offers and even the Hero 7 looks better than this. Now what camera did you use at the end of this video? That looked great.
I agree the price definitely needs to come down, but I don't think they're able to because of it using the Ambarella chipset which is expensive. Then end of the video was with my Sony A7Siii with the 24-70 G Master lens. Thanks for watching !
Audio is great and the processing app. However the Brave 8 is far too expensive for what you get. Yes, your fig tree has recovered beautifully. 👍😃
