    Great review. There wasn't anything like this on the packaging "are you making notes Sharpal?" I too am amazes how this works so well. Thanks again for the review - it saved me a lot of head-scratching.

    Great video - thanks.
    Yep - just bought this and like many of us knife sharpening enthusiasts (unhinged maniacs… 😳) I’m not short of other options or methods. I can very calmly spend five hours sharpening multiple knives with every possible type of whetstone and not get bored.
    But I totally agree. This is a quite remarkable little piece of kit. I agree that the honing side - which counterintuitively looks like it is what should be doing the work is much less effective. In fact (and this is almost certainly because I haven’t mastered it yet) it seems to ruin the work the carbide side does. That’s not an issue for me since I only have about 500 other ways to hone/strop/polish the blade and realistically that’s not really what this is about.
    It’s about an extremely portable way to put a very sharp edge on a blade without “getting all the gear out”.
    I haven’t tried it on an axe yet but will be.
    This may very well stay in my pocket for a long time!

    Thank you for your reviewing, the Sharpal video while informative was not as helpful, now I’ve got the angle down. So helpful.

    Thanks, this was a very helpful review and demo! I really wanted to believe that it was possible to sharpen tools without dismantling them to use with a sharpening stone. From what I see here, the ease of use should mean I sharpen my tools much more regularly. Here’s hoping!

    That one specifically is meant to sharpen lawn tools. I’m glad I found your video because I almost bought the knife sharpener and this. But I might just try this first.

    I wanted you to sharpen a vegetable peeler. Saw one sitting there. I have an old one with su h a comfortable handle but obviously needs to be sharpened. Can you PLEASE show that? Don't want to destroy what's left of it 😊. Yes, I had to get a neighbour to open it for me. Twice. THAT needs to be changed. Thanks!

    I own a sharpensbest carbide sharpener and I prefer this one. If you have some burr that honing part will remove it. There is a touch to getting the edge smooth, but once you get the hang of it, look out! It also doubles as a great ferro rod striker.

    I have this one.. have been watching sarpens best videos, and have had a few of the sharpens best sharpeners.
    But this product works much better as it take metal of more agressive.. and with the fine hone on the backside it give me a much better and sharp edge..

    When you sharpen the blade on pruner's you're supposed to go from back to front.

    I just got one of these today and looked up demos on TH-cam. After reading directions on packaging and then watching this hoping to see him follow directions; LOL! He is not using this properly at all. For max sharpening of the tips you end the stroke coming off the tip, NOT begin your stroke on the tip.It's okay b/c the guy is satisfied but he probably should read the directions and then he will also find out about the honing process. You also are definitely NOT supposed to go back and forth rapidly like a scrubbing action. That is over use and needlessly shaving excess off your knife. Nice try though with the video.

    i was gonna buy a sharpens best but considering how cheapy and crappy it is at $21 compared to this which looks like it costs much muchmore to make with that bigger chunk of carbide i guess this is the one to buy instead.

    • @Jesus713martin
      @Jesus713martin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea that’s all it is a bigger chunk of carbide

    Absolute WORST thing to sharpen with...... not trying to rain on your parade, but that’s a carbide sharpener and it’s literally eating away at your blade steel brother.
    Learn to sharpen properly with diamond stones and strops.

    • @ureviews
      @ureviews  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I disagree. If you have a very dull knife and you are careful the amount of shavings is minimal. It's also very portable, suitable for trips, camping etc. I did mention it shaves the metal shouldn't be a surprise.

    • @darrellallen7931
      @darrellallen7931 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ureviews understood but it appears to be the same kind of sharpener as that Sharpens Best model, which I bought and tried, and it too is carbide…… I have been sharpening knives all my life, I am currently 57, and have always used a whetstone or a diamond stone and leather strops to refine the edge. I even bought one of the Wicked Edge pro model sharpeners, which is fantastic but expensive.
      If you think it’s truly a good sharpener, after sharpening, try the paper cut again, but try to cut in curves instead of a straight line.

    • @ureviews
      @ureviews  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Of course there are better methods. Absolutely. But for its compact size and portability, it serves its purpose very well.

    • @darrellallen7931
      @darrellallen7931 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ureviews yes, I would definitely agree with that comment. As I said, not raining on your parade, just trying to help you get a better and cleaner cutting edge is all. Take care and thanks for posting the review.

      Yes for knives I would use other sharpening methods, but gardening tool and the like I would use this. The sones are a bit too big for these curved blades. Stones and belts usually work better with flatter blades.
