    That pyroclastic flow on Kanleon shows how terrifying they are. That flow reached the bottom of the volcano in seconds.

    Great job, appreciate your work. If you are interested in pronouncing the Philippine volcano as natives do, say "KHAN - LA - OON" 3 syllables. The stress is on "LA" and said in a rising voice. KHAN is flat/low, LA is rising, OON is down/ending sound.

    According to PHIVOLCS, Kanlaon might erupt major eruption. I forget the reason, but I think it has something to do with its top being trapped with something that will accumulate a pressure inside, causing it to explode more violently.

    Geology Hub, there is something called a basal surge. I think it’s a pyroclastic flow which hugs the ground and is not tall. I may be confused. Can you discuss the ‘basal surge’ versus ‘pyroclastic flow’ issue. My husband and I enjoy your work. 💕💕💕🎄🎄🎄🎄

    • @jakealter5504
      @jakealter5504 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Lahars are mudflows that involve any eruptive products

    • @stephyadcock1233
      @stephyadcock1233 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      You could be confusing Lahars with the Icelandic term of "Jokulhlaup" which is a form of mudflow from a glacial flood as you described above. A Lahar, if I remember correctly, is volcanic deposits such as ash from an eruption falling into water in a river system and mixing to form a consistency similar to liquid cement. Hope that helps?

    • @jakealter5504
      @jakealter5504 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @ it doesn’t require a river system, they can also be triggered by hot ash mixing with snowmelt or rain. Jokulhlaups form when subglacial volcanoes melt the overlying ice sheets but don’t typically have much ash in them

      Historically a volcano could erupt and no one would know. Hundreds of earthquakes would happen but they were too small to feel. Etc etc.
      Now we can see them on satellite, detect them with sensors, picture them and spread the info around the world in moments.

      Its bad, really bad, obviously. Absolutely nothing can be done about it, its up to plants to somehow sequester the carbon and trap it once again, probably creating coal or oil in the process.
      Who knows, maybe humans can come up with a faster method but the clock is ticking. Its already too late to stop imho.
