Great view into your life and commitment to fashion education !!! Just really wanted to share with you the lovely impact your style had on me for last night’s Thanksgiving dinner! You inspired me to bring out my Mother’s 1980’s heavily beaded, black and gold bordered, cropped jacket. I styled it in YOUR classic way: with jeans, a black T-shirt, leopard ballet flats with black patent leather bows, and fabulous gaudy gold Jewelry that my Grandmother had designed in the 1960’s. My daughter (mid 20’s) wore a great vintage Liz Claiborne black knit sweater, with iridescent teardrop beads scattered all over, tight straight leg black watch plaid pants, her black chunky boots, and great silver jewelry she has collected, including Victorian silver earrings she found in Spain, and 4 different silver necklaces (some with black jet beads) she styled together. EVERYTHING we wore was either Vintage or thrifted!!! We went to her Godmother’s home for Thanksgiving. My daughter also has 2 beloved teenage “God-siblings”. There were additional assorted teen boyfriends and girlfriends, and Hollywood industry folk in their 30’s and 40’s. (And lots of dogs!) After BIG Hugs from our very sweet and loving God-family, the kids all said “you look AMAZING! I LOVE your jacket! Your whole “fit” is so awesome!! OMG! Where did you get it?!!? (They LOVED my daughter’s look, as always!) I felt so great (especially as I am 67 years old!) They are very sweet and loving kids, but also quite sophisticated as they are descendants of “Hollywood Royalty” and grew up on various red carpets. Elsa Scaparelli , was their Great, great, great Aunt! One grandmother ran with Andy Warhol, the other was a muse and designer for Ralph Lauren, and had her own clothing line. So it’s a very loving, but sophisticated young crowd. Also the jacket was a huge icebreaker with people I met, as Everyone asked about it and the way I had styled it with my grandmother’s jewelry. I’m usually quite shy with people I don’t know, in fact, I suffer from acute social anxiety, but the outfit had people coming up to me in a warm and open way. It made conversation so easy and relaxing, even intimate right away, talking about my Mother and Grandmother, their families, their lives… I told them I had been inspired to style it all by you! Oops… I don’t think it was clear that the talk of my matriarchs opened the conversation to the other person’s mother, family and life. So it gave us a more intimate connection right from the start. Which is more comfortable for everyone.
This made me SO happy to read! It sounds like you and your daughter were a hit at Thanksgiving dinner and I’m certain I would be obsessed with your outfits. They sound so good! I love that fashion can help so many connections. Any time I’m at a networking event, I wear my neon tipped slingback heels because they’re a great ice breaker. I loved this episode. As usual! I have seen the fortuny pleated dress several times. Are there a lot of these or this is a hard one to move? Beth tried something like it on in the last year. I crave it but it's hard to find a suitable, or even unsuitable, place to wear it
