I live in Austin and I drive mine every day! 987.1 manual. Makes otherwise boring and tedious drives a lot of fun! Only really sucks in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
I love the silver paint, my Cayman S is in Arctic Silver. I absolutely agree about driving it regularly, and I daily commute in my Cayman S on a mixture of main roads and back roads. As to practicality, I can get my road bike, including wheels in the back of the car, leaving the frunk for any other luggage. I also do the weekly shopping in it, and it’s so easy to just drop all my shopping into the frunk. I often watch people struggling to lift heavy bags up into their SUV’s, and see them look as i just drop my bags in the frunk and drive off.
Wow, I never considered trying to fit a bike in the back! And yeah I immediately noticed how easy the frunk is for loading/unloading. I’ve never enjoyed a car so much! I specifically searched out the spec and Arctic Silver was one of my wants. It looks so classic on a Porsche. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I've recently purchased my first Porsche. 2006 Cayman S w/49,000 kms. Seen the original owner's documentation. Garage queen condition but does have some milage. Clearly used as second car and maintained by a Porsche Enthusiast. It had all the options, sports plus seats, cronos pkg (sports button), PASM and Sports steering wheel. There were some S for $30k cdn but I paid $36,500 cdn because I was buying the owner. Didn't care much about the Moe's car dealership that sold it to me. It's surprising to me so many people have commented on my car more than a newer 981 or 718 Caymans. Guess is because there were about 7,000 sold in NA for every year 987.1. Where as 981/718 was about 22,000 sold in NA. So ratio is 1 to 3. And some would consider 987 to be vintage, especially in Artic Silver which resembled Porsche 550.
Gratitude! 08 Cayman base Daily Driver here in Ruby Red Metallic, manual 5 spd trans, tan interior, and with Bose sound. Avg 20.4 mpg. 88k miles. Do the oil myself and have changed the ignition coils as well as spark plugs, cheers!
Ruby red is beautiful and rare, I’ve only seen one. Sounds like you have an amazing spec car! I’m going to get a quick jack soon and will be able to do my own service. Enjoy!
I drive my 2014 Cayman PDK not enough, but on trips when I do on the open road I get 31or 32 mpg on premium and 25 mpg around town... I use exclusively Shell. However, I much perfer Chevron gas but can't get it within 200 miles any more.
Wow that’s great mileage - better than mine, I checked a 50-mile highway trip and got about 27. I use chevron since it’s the closest, but I do agree it’s a great fuel. Thanks for watching!
not sure why people think not? its a fantastic engineered car--- and 245,000 kms on my Honda civic too boot - its all about maintenance- OIL changes often and on time. soforth with any great car.
Agreed. I have 4 cars and total mileage across them all is almost 500,000 miles - it’s all about doing proper maintenance. To be fair, the video wasn’t really about if the Cayman is durable enough, rather is it livable. And it certainly is.
'07 Base owner. I daily mine (as much as possible) in the non-winter months - roughly from late April to almost November. My car is solid as a rock, and I could literally drive it every day. I work from home, so it doesn't really require much of a commute. But as long as it's decent outside, and I have somewhere to be....it's Cayman time!! And I'm a bit surprised at your fuel mileage. My 2.7l is super efficient with fuel. I put 94 octane in....and I get a LOT of kms between fills (I've never really calculated it). It's WAY better than many of my previous SUV's. On a longer trip....I swear this thing hardly burns a drop!!
I’ve heard from quite a few base model guys who brag about their fun/mileage ratio! That’s terrific to hear, though it has to be said I’m running this car hard when I drive it. It’s great to hear you’re enjoying it and get to drive it a lot. Thanks for watching!
@@keyontheleft6510 Thankfully, the one mod mine has is an exhaust. So I don't have to jam on it too hard....to really let that wonderful Flat Six sing. Plus, where I live....not a lot of places to roar around, without getting in trouble. lol
No speed is too fast to get around a potentially dangerous situation on the interstate, especially if you can leave them in your rear-view. Oh, and I'm pro 987/997 cup holder 👍

I’m in Austin pretty often, there’s a lot of traffic there so I understand your point. But manual does keep me focused. Thanks, enjoy!
9:01 "Rolling art" wonderful concept.
Thank you! I appreciate you watching!
Great video. Thank you. I get 30 mpg on the highway at 75 mph and mid to low 20s around town (2014 Cayman).
Nice mileage! I don’t keep track too much, but mine gets around 28 highway. Better than you’d expect. Enjoy your ride, and thanks for watching!
My commute is 240 miles round trip. I drive my cayman about 3 days a week just because I enjoy it so much.
That’s awesome! Drove mine today, makes the commute so fun!
@@keyontheleft6510 it sure does

Owner of an 09 987.2 manual in the Lewisville area. Now at 80k miles and its been a blast so far. Enjoy yours to the max!
That’s awesome! We’re out near Weatherford. I wring it out every time I take it out. I’ve never had so much fun. Thanks, you too!

All facts, and agree on the design language. It’s such a classic shape. I hope you enjoy yours as I have. Congrats!

yup- I can and for 152,000 kms with regular maintenance and a few minor repairs here and there - it runs like new. best car ever.

Makes sense, mileage-wise. But the 2.7 is still thrilling, I drove one when I was looking. I hope you enjoy your car like I do!

I left that in there, thought it was funny.
