Place Duration With Maverick-Stubborn Boxer Dog That Cannot Settle

Maverick is a dog that isn't capable of setting. He's also learned that if he puts up a good enough fight, he will win, and not have to do things he doesn't want to do.
He struggles with over simulation, reactivity, an inability to focus, and a lack of coping skills.
After lots of rehearsal with getting on and off place it came time to do duration, but every time I got up or moved away, so did he. There was no change in this behavior with guidance, low regular, or moderate ecollar. Once he realized you were going to follow through, he would start refusing to lie down altogether.
The only way to obtain the duration was punishment (higher ecollar stim) for breaking place followed by physical leash pressure to get him lying back down. At first I also had to physically manipulate his front paws and slide them out to get him to go down. He needed to be muzzled because he would mouth and nip at the leash and our hands.
This was day one of requiring the duration.
