It's a shame Roddy Piper never broke out as a star. He was, and always will be, the most charismatic wrestling personality in my opinion.
It was great to see him in It's always sunny
@@getsomeboy321 Absolutely! I always wished Piper would be a regular on Sunny, he would've been fantastic!!
And he gives a good performance in this movie.
I kid you not, yesterday at the gym, this chick had a They Live shirt. It was badass. Made me want to watch it again. Then this morning, what do I see? A Joblo video on it. It's either a sign to watch the movie, or a sign that I should have asked that girl to marry me.🤔
I was just thinking about popping my DVD copy in the other night. May have to make that my Friday night movie.
✨👰🏼♀️💖👽✨
Makes me long for the days when there weren't any girls at the gym
The latter my friend.
Get the girl dude!
Awesome Movie 😈👍
RIP Roddy Piper 🙏
This movie was ahead of it's time. I remember seeing it in theatres with my friend...twice. I still have the original release VHS and have it on DVD. One of my favorites.
Great movie. It's more like a documentary today
Dude! I had no idea that South Park’s Cripple Fight came from this!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 thanks for the lesson!
Watch the 70's invasion of the body snatchers now. Chilling to the bone
Good suggestion.
This is one of the most important movies of all times because of its impeccable insight into modern society defined by consumerism, brainwashing and dehumanization.
Century of the Self. Great documentary.
This movie is too EPIC for words. John Carpenter is a God of cinema 😀
Saw this when released on VHS with my parents & brother. My Dad commented that it was like what was going on in England with Thatcher. Love this film 😊🐾💜👍👋
Roddy and Keith were both in Saints Row 4 so naturally there was nod to their fight scene
I come for the music, i stay for the great movie’s of my late childhood, teenage years! Thanks for your work and the nostalgia shot!!
I'm all out of bubble gum!
This is the best series on TH-cam!! every week I get excited for the next one
Glad to hear it!
Fantastic movie and even more relevant today, great video.
I love Big Trouble in Little China!
I Remember Watching They Live On AMC Back In '03/''04 And Saw South Park Re-enacting The Fight Scene From That Film Starring My All-Time Favorite Wrestler Roddy Piper. As A Kid Born In '87 I Can Relate To This Conversation When It Comes To Pro Wrestlers From The '70's, '80's, '90's,'00's And 2010's Who've Gone From The Squared Circle To The Big Screen. Now I Have They Live On DVD After Purchasing It From Circuit City Back In '04 It's Been A Collector's Item Ever Since.
I really like this movie! Thank you for making a video about it!!!
Our pleasure!
This film is basically a DOCUMENTARY.
And I’m not even joking.
You have no idea.
*OBEY*
I'm guessing you may already know this, but I will leave it for those who don't.
Roths//Child 25 Point Plan (1773)
1. Use violence and terrorism rather than academic discussions.
2. Preach “Liberalism” to usurp political power.
3. Initiate class warfare.
4. Politicians must be cunning and deceptive - any moral code leaves a politician vulnerable.
5. *Dismantle “existing forces of order and regulation.” Reconstruct all existing institutions.”*
--Communism and Religion
Abolished - all religious and metaphysics is rejected. Engels and Lenin agreed that religion was a drug or “spiritual booze” and must be combated. *To them, atheism put into practice meant a “forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions.”*
6. Remain invisible until the very moment when it has gained such strength that no cunning or force can undermine it.
7. *Use Mob Psychology to control the masses.* “Without absolute despotism one cannot rule efficiently.”
8. Advocate the use of alcoholic liquors, drugs, moral corruption and all forms of vice, used systematically by “agenteurs” to corrupt the youth.
9. Seize properties by any means to secure submission and sovereignty.
10. Foment wars and control the peace conferences so that neither of the combatants gains territory placing them further in debt and therefore into our power.
11. *Choose candidates for public office who will be “servile and obedient to our commands, so they may be readily used as pawns in our game.”*
12. *Use the Press for propaganda to control all outlets of public information, while remaining in the shadows, clear of blame.*
13. Make the masses believe they had been the prey of criminals. Then restore order to appear as the saviors.
---When the goal is worldwide Communism, who do you suppose they will make the masses believe were the criminals preying upon them?
14. Create financial panics. Use hunger to control to subjugate the masses.
15. Infiltrate Freemasonry to take advantage of the Grand Orient Lodges to cloak the true nature of their work in philanthropy. *Spread their atheistic-materialistic ideology amongst the "Goyim" (gentiles).*
16. When the hour strikes for our sovereign lord of the entire World to be crowned, their influence will banish everything that might stand in his way.
17. *Use systematic deception, high-sounding phrases and popular slogans.* “The opposite of what has been promised can always be done afterwards... That is of no consequence.”
18. A Reign of Terror is the most economical way to bring about speedy subjection.
19. *Masquerade as political, financial and economic advisers to carry out our mandates with Diplomacy and without fear of exposing “the secret power behind national and international affairs.”*
20. Ultimate world government is the goal. *It will be necessary to establish huge monopolies, so even the largest fortunes of the Goyim will depend on us to such an extent that they will go to the bottom together with the credit of their governments on the day after the great political smash.”*
---Remember point 13? Hints as to who they will make people believe are the criminals preying on the masses is: It's the nation created three years after this was all written. The world's most powerful Capitalist nation, with its currency being the most widely used around the world, as well as being among the top currencies held in reserves by many nations. It is the world's number one importer of goods, beating out China by around $500 Billion in imports each year. In an effort to fight against Liberalism/Marxist ideologies, it will soon turn to religious laws as a means to Make that Country Great Again, forcefully remove Liberals from positions of power, authority and influence as it becomes the Fascist nation Liberals claimed it would be if a certain orange colored man were to return to his former position in the government. As a result, capitalism and Judeo-Christianity will be seen as the biggest roadblocks to "progress".
If you have studied the Bible, you would know this as being the fall of "Mystery, Babylon the Great", the empire of the Roman Catholic Church in the last days.
21. Use economic warfare. Rob the "Goyim" of their landed properties and industries with a combination of high taxes and unfair competition.
22. “Make the 'Goyim' destroy each other so there will only be the proletariat left in the world, with a few millionaires devoted to our cause, and sufficient police and soldiers to protect our interest.”
23. Call it The New Order. Appoint a Dictator.
24. *Fool, bemuse and corrupt the younger members of society by teaching them theories and principles we know to be false.*
---That would include things such as: Big Bang Theory, Darwin's Theory of Evolution, Climate Change/Global Warming and gender being different than sex. (Just to name a few.)
The main goal is to make people question and deny the existence of God. Without Creation, there is no God who designed the universe, people and animals, it's all just random chance. If there is no God, there are no moral absolutes, "your truth" and subjective morality is all that matters. Do as thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.
25 Twist national and international laws into a contradiction which first masks the law and afterwards hides it altogether. Substitute arbitration for law."
Psalm 2
1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying,
3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
---That is, they want to cast off the moral requirements established by God the Father and God the Son, the Anointed One (Messiah).
4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
7 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
They live is spot on with what really goes on
I saw this in theaters as a kid... in the past 2 years, I have introduced many friends to this movie and watched with them.. they were all blown away with the correlations to RL now
This is one of my favorite movies to introduce people to… especially the fight scene.
Still awesome and possibly more applicable now one of the best ever
Much love and respect for this movie own on DVD would have loved to owned the collectors edition Blu Ray
When I first saw it on TV, I was hooked
Haven't seen it in years. I think I'll have to watch it this weekend now
This movie is totally goated
This video need more views now this movie is totally goat.
I caught this on Tubi n it was a hella of a good movie I can't wait to catch it again n watch it again
THEY LIVE WE SLEEP
THIS MOVIE IS AWESOME
The most important movie EVER
The aliens faces look so goofy now, but as a kid they freaked me the f00k out, to the point that I had nightmares with them. Well done, Mr. Carpenter! 🤖💯
6:27 I appreciate the bit of wrestlers in movies over the years!
They are performers, after all. Yes, they are stuntmen and athletes, too but charisma comes first.
"I'm here to chew bubblegum and watch JoBlo Horror movies. And, I'm all out of bubblegum.ç
Not too bad 😅😅😅😅
Yes, and it is one of my favorite movies of all time. Sounds silly, but entirely serious that's it's a seminal work for me.
My dad introduced my older brother and I to this movie. The aliens were freaky but the film itself is very intriguing.
Great video great movie 1988 rocked
Roddy was on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia a few episodes. Great character.
Tha Maniac loves ya!
You've been doing so many great videos lately on some great movies. As I keep saying on horror movie videos, I've always been more interested in the making of horror than watching horror movies themselves. I'm trying to watch more as a viewer and this is one on my hitlist.
Tyler has a great narration voice, Keith David is a great actor also. Looking back, er grew up in a awesome era, music, movies, everything. We took it for granted back then. I shouldve paid more attention and enjoyed it more.
Excellent as always. Down here in Australia this is my mandatory Saturday morning viewing. Keep em coming mate - awesome.
My favorite Carpenter movie even more than Halloween Halloween season of the witch rest in peace Roddy 🤘😭😭🥤🥤🍿
The fight scene in "The Hunt" with Hillary Swank is even better IMO
The cripple fight on south park.
Put on the hat timmy
Viewers should watch other They live documentories to see just how important this movie is
I saw this one in the theaters when I was 12. Didn't even have to sneak in or anything, they just let me buy a ticket on my own (One of the reasons I'll always remember "They Live"). I was completely oblivious to a good portion of the social commentary at the time (It took me a few more years to start following anything close to politics), but man, did this one make my eyes go big! I was down with everything about it (the different kind of alien invasion, the look of the movie, "The" fight scene). Plus, I'll always have a soft spot for Meg Foster, who will forever be my favorite version of Katrina Van Tassel in the Jeff Goldblum starring "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" from 1980 (she's also Evil Lyn from the Masters of the Universe movie). Anyhow, "They Live" continues to be in my top five of Carpenter's work (don't see it ever dropping) and a sight to see if you haven't yet had the pleasure. Once again, another stellar entry in this series! Keep 'em coming! Cheers!
It's been relevant the entire time
The movie they live is 1 of my favorites! What if we really have overlords similar to the movie?
This shit is my FAVORITE part of Friday after work. Love this damn series!!!🤘😆
Top notch.
Hard to believe Piper didnt do more movies. He wasnt great but he was pretty good.
This movie is still relevant now today. I think aliens are influencing the world. Just look who we have in office lol
Loved him as Da Maniac on It*s Always Sunny. The role was eerily similar to Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler.
I'm pretty sure I've watched it on TV. Then rented it at Blockbuster.
Yes
An amazing movie with a great message, And it's even more relevant today. They Live is second only to The Thing IMO, and it's a very close race.
It's such a shame that Roddy Piper only had 2 movies of note, They Live & Hell Comes To Frogtown. Given the right opportunities he could have been just as big as Dwayne is today.
I have THEY LIVE knuckle tattoos 😊
They Live and the Hellraiser series were my ONLY movies that I was left to face after ALL otters, and I watched em all, btw....
Aside from this, my favourite Roddy movie is Hell Comes To Frogtown.
I have to add that "the greatest fight scene of all time" must contain the fight scene in "Bridget Jones diary" because that is super real.
In my opinion this movie had the best movie quote. I have never forgotten it. You know the movie from this one tag line quote " I came here to chew bubble gum and kick ass and I'm all out of bubble gum. "
Just so you know, I love cheese. I love cheesy movies. Appreciate the cheese please. If you look at many many great movies that have a whole lot of cheese in them. Movies might have flopped but some movies were just ahead or behind their times. Thankfully we can rewatch movies we love in secret and love them even though they were flops. I'm looking at you Rocky Horror Picture Show. Yeah you were a Saturday night cult classic I went to at the midnight showing at our local theater. It was fun and if you never went to Midnight madness showing of RHPS you missed out.
Are you KIDDING? This movie is a god damn DOCUMENTARY..... metaphorically speaking of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
part 1 of 1988!!
It's a two hour episode of Piper's Pit.
The movie Free Guy took a lot of influence from this movie. Not only did it focus on a form of truth telling sunglasses, it also featured the lead fighting with his closest friend, who didn’t want to see the truth. While the stories have different messages I enjoyed the call backs to They Live.
My teen years were the 80's, we had some great movies, this is another one. I still use the bubble gum quote. lol Is this movie more relevant today? Most things are due to the internet.
That homeless stuff is still happening today. We build houses that we can't even afford and it's getting harder and harder for us to even survive, let alone live. You know it's messed up when the company boss is building a house and has to sell it because he can't even afford it. Something's about to break, I'm telling you right now.
I don't love the movie but what I love about it is...
One thing I didn't understand was how the aliens were able to do commercial transactions and simple banking when they can't see what money is. Maybe they agreed that "this is your god" is a 10, maybe "obey" is a 20, etc.
I'd be down for a remake maybe in a tv series form of mini movie
It will ALWAYS be relevant..😎
my Fav J 🚗 🖊️🎥😅
One of my all time fave films
And the CONCEPT is clever because it can be used as a blank THEM kinda thing.
Like. If you’re are into a specific conspiracy theory. This film offers a blank template to show an uprising against a “THEM” or “THEY” of your choice
Loved WWF as a kid too but this was so separate from WWF in my mind
PIPER was just brilliant in this film. Glad he didnt just go with Kurt Russel AGAIN because that would have been just TOO much Russel/Carpenter in the bank
(Almost as bad as Burton/Depp became)
As much as I LOVE this film. It IS a film that suffers from a two half problem.
I think the second half just LOSES steam.
The fight is round about the middle and is like a MARKER for this.
Once Piper and David join the “resistance” it just…loses something
I never like UPRISING movies. It just has a very lame feel to it in my opinion. Very righteous. I dunno but this film deffo suffers in terms of keeping you AS interested in the second half as it did in the first in MY opinion
Similar to the comedy Stir Crazy with Gene Wilder & Richard Pryor
That film is RIDICULOUSLY funny until the midway point and then it just virtually DIES A DEATH throughout the second half! I mean I dont even think there is any DIALOGUE in my memory?
Yea so. John Carpenter for me. His best movies in order from best down in my opinion
Assault On Precinct 13
The Thing
They Live
I do LIKE the Escape films and Big Trouble. But they are just pick em films. Take or leave em in my opinion
Funny enough. During the election, Saturday Night Live did a sketch in which it turned out Democratic Presidential candidate, Mass. Governor Michael Dukakis turned out to be an alien sent to conquer the Earth.
It's deep. The world was always about control, from pagan civilisations to religion to the technocracy of now. We don't even know who or what created us or if there's a why. Maybe alien gods, like in Lovecraft, that demanded sacrifices. Maybe waiting for our technology to reach a certain level. Funny how the entire world has this collective consciousness no matter where you are. I remember reading in an article (Starburst, maybe?) with Carpenter saying that his awareness became so acute that he couldn't even watch MTV anymore.
I just want to say as a wrestling fan rowdy Roddy Piper is not that big of a guy when it stands next to other wrestles but you put him in Hollywood next to a bunch of normal people and the dude is an absolute unit
I've read he was a black belt in judo so he was a real martial artist not some raided up gymnast.
👂 👊 Orig 20+min!
It's Totally💯Worth It!
I heard John Carpenter added the long fight in the alley because he wanted to put Roddy Piper's wrestling skills on display.
Him and Sam Raimi should sue Duke Nukem.
The fight scene is about those that can see fighting to make those who refuse to see.
Never give up showing the corrupt manipulating our reality.
Wickedness in high places.
Roddy Piper: ~ "THEY LIVE" was a documentary"....
Do you watch Aqua Teen hunger force before making this comment.
I don't know if they're able to but if they could they should do a remake of tha movie just to see how it all would be today in age, I got a good idea who would play tha role of tha characters of tha same role of tha movie John Cena n Samuel L. Jackson would be two to play in it I don't know it's just an opinion
Fun fact, if you replace the grotesque faces with tiny little hats, you have the world we currently live in.
this is our reality not idiocracy
It's probably more relevant but consumerism isn't necessarily bad.
I mean, do try to remember what the entire world looked like before grocery stores and big box retail.
Carpenter was also the first director on Halloween 4, but left due to creative differences with Moustapha Akkad. Surprised you didn't know/mention that.
Halloween 4 being a big hit and They Live flopping must have stung quite a bit for Carpenter.
Source?? I don't think that's true. Carpenter was DONE with Halloween after Season of the Witch, and he actually wanted to be done after the original.
Where did you hear this?
I stop watching a lot of channels because they get political. I've said this before for JoeBlo: so far, every time politics comes up, y'all stay fair and neutral, and it's much appreciated. Y'all talk about the movies and don't preach politics in this political time. Thanks guys. "Fake news from both sides". That was a good statement. Y'all don't ostracize either side.
The end still confuses me till this day
Operation Mockingbird - WEF
GQP Began Here! 🤬☯️
Wow its like its a commentary about today -_-
The only thing I disagree with in They Live; the P.K.E. meters from Ghostbusters. Dude. Unacceptable.
This movie wouldn't have been as good with out roddy in it
I enjoyed the movie, and the concept was definitely unique. However, all the complaining about Reaganomics is stupid. The producer talks about the seventies being so great but she must've forgotten about the 19% interest rate if you tried to buy a home or the gas shortages under Jimmy Carter. Reagan brought America back to prosperity, help restore American patriotism, laid the groundwork for the end of the Cold War etc. If anything, They Live is closer to today's world with constant surveillance, big tech and government working together to control the flow of information, using the government to silence and jail the opposition etc.
Trickle down economics should have been called “trickle on”.
Never understood why blue collar people would vote republican???
Still in use.
They Live was made in the early days of Reaganomics. We're well into late stage capitalism now and still Reaganomics is the policy du jour.
When you hire a top notch wrestler it’s stupid to not take full advantage of his wrestling talent. (And yes wrestling is just overdone and very elaborate stage fighting.) so Craven knowing what he had was smart and rolled with it!
I find this movie to be more anti government than anti capitalism
They're the same. Government is run by corporations.
Carpenter has to be dishonest about who the movie is about, otherwise he would be banned from small hat controlled Hollywood
15:41 Interesting Lawsuit, a woman bought $20K of dog food and her kids discovered a Garage full of dog food & she didn’t even own a dog. 🐕 lol 😂 they sued the DOGFOOD Company & WON! Might be hard to find, for NUMEROUS Reasons, scrubbed, settled out of court…
She was poor too.
Fixed Income, def. Not rich,
Well, theyre not blaming reaganomics now.
They should be.
@@playedout148 no.
Crazy to think about it now, that They Live is a masterpiece while Halloween 4 is complete trash compared. Interesting, how Carpenter movies always become popular titles after they first played the theaters.
I swear fauci looks like one of the exposed...
He is one of them...
Everyone replying to this is guilty of being smug.
