They Live 1988 Movie Analysis- Fiction or Documentary

- The 1988 movie They Live by John Carpenter was way ahead of its time, and it didn't need to use standard Sci Fi symbolism. This movie puts it right out there in the open. Rowdy Rody Piper, who played the lead Nada (Nobody) claimed just before his death that They Live was not a movie but a documentary. Here I look into a few key scenes, the blind preacher, the glasses, the fight with Frank, the underground and ending. I made this about a month ago, just getting around to putting it up today.
I'm not sure if you missed the biggest metaphor from the fight due to being Canadian, but Frank being Black and Piper being White is deliberate. Since the late 1600's the United States has used racial division by the elite to create infighting by the lower classes. Frank refuses to see, not just because the truth hurts, but because of the distrust between White's and Blacks created over the centuries. They may be friends, but there's still a division UNTIL Frank finally recognizes that he and Piper are the same. They are BOTH slaves to this system, and it's the system itself that convinced them otherwise.
It's similar to the Black Lives Matter vs. All Lives Matter going on in the wake of George Floyd. The lower classes fight each other, while the ruling class makes off like bandits and blinds us to the truth about the abuses of power being implemented during the Pandemic.
As an American, the fight scene in They Live is one of the most powerful statements about race in this country featured in film.

the sunglasses in the movie is symbolic. it represents the moment when your third eye is activated and you can now see the false reality that has been pulled over you blinding you to the truth. and you are correct about the fight scene. it is also symbolic. it represents how extremely difficult is is to wake others up.
The resistance represents the counterculture, who's primary sacrament was LSD. Sunglasses in the film are a metaphor for LSD.

Great review Howdie. I'm turning 60 next month and still remember seeing this flick in the theater. Wonderful breakdown of the fight scene, because buried beneath the first level of racial tension is the true meaning of it, the refusal by Frank to (want) to see something, to see some truth, that's what (he) was fighting against. . .(and) of course so many of us have had those issues trying to convince loved ones of the deeper meanings of what is happening today.

Absolutely fantastic analysis. Ever since I saw the movie for the first time, I could never forget it, although back then, I was quite young and certainly sleeping. I saw it then only as an unusual SciFi (which I always loved most), but something kept it in my memory.
In recent years and certainly now, it is mentioned more and within the right context, but you nailed it! BTW: Meg Foster didn't wear special lenses, she really has these unusual, watery blue eyes. Look her up on IMDB, it is even more expressive in her later years. ;-)
I remember her from the movie The Emerald Forest.

Great break down of this flick, you pointed out some things I overlooked even after watching this move many times thru the years. A few other good John Carpenter flicks about the nature of false reality are 'In The Mouth Of Madness' and 'Prince of Darkness'..

Yes, supposed Sumerians...the 'watch' face is faceted like a flower, similar to windows in cathedrals, sacred geometry, as seen in cymatics...so maybe frequency generators or like in the move a communicators. What about the bag like thing that they carry? Any ideas? The cone shape device - a frequency generator? Pointing at the 'tree of life' or DNA our antenna....?
@@t.d.f5968 the cone shaped thing is what the guy who built the coral castle used to do the lifting and moving of the heavy stones. Some kids reportedly spied on him one day and said he was moving the coral blocks with “an ice cream cone.” When asked how he did all the work by himself without any tackle or pulleys he said that he had learned the ways of the ancients. Whatever it is, it’s something.
@@michaelwills1926 Yes, I had heard this story regarding the coral castle and the 'ice cream cone' shaped device...I believe Michael Tellinger may have mentioned it as an explanation of the collection of cone shaped stones he found. It would seem that at one point in time 'stones' were technology. Vibrational technology would seem very likely; change the frequency and you change the composition/weight. This would explain how they build the megalithic structures and the coral castle.

I have a theory that you should address sometime: You know how you said that those who run the system are not normal humans like we are? What if that's true of 5 or 10 percent of the entire population, just like in the movie "They Live" by John Carpenter? That would explain how "many people can be in on it" which must be in the case in certain conspiracies or hoaxes, such as the Moon Landing, JFK, 9/11, etc. So far, you are unable to reconcile these two things, which you've noted in your videos. I know this theory is really out there, but it would explain a lot if it were indeed the case right? Have you considered this possibility?
These non-humans which are among us could be synthetic artificial people, hologram people, or alien-human hybrids. Or a combination of all of these. If you think about it, this is the only theory that ties up all the loose ends, because as we all know, ordinary good people with a conscience cannot possibly be involved in a massive hoax or conspiracy. I agree, so this theory is the only one that could make it possible for many people to be "in on it". Right? Only non-humans could work together in unison to orchestrate a massive hoax or conspiracy without conscience and without dissent, if you think about it. Furthermore, since you yourself said in your videos (e.g. like the one to the Canadian truck convoys) that those running the system cannot be normal humans, that makes my theory more plausible if you are correct, right?
There is actually some good material about it on the Montalk website by Tom Montalk, which I highly recommend. If you go there, there is a free PDF called "Human Simulacrum" which contains a variety of insider sources that refer to synthethic humans, which are not androids like on Star Trek, but synthetic humans who are flesh and blood too, so a medical doctor would not be able to detect that their are non-human.
What do you think Matt? Maybe you can address this theory sometime. If true, that would mean that the movie "They Live" is literally true, not metaphorically.
In fact, a man on my forum who claims that the Illuminati stalks him, told me once that 5 percent of the American population work for the Illuminati. If that's so, then I wonder if this 5 percent might be non-human, like in the movie "They Live"? If so, then anytime the system wants to pull off a hoax or conspiracy, it can simply draw from this 5 percent who will do anything it wants. Right?

I love this film. I only watched it for the first time 3 or 4 years ago and my reaction was just Wowww. Then, the billboards saying consume, obey, buy., conform, no thought.... just seems so 'to the minute' in our current world. With Christmas coming up soon again it becomes all the more accurate: consume, buy, spend, conform, obey, buy buy buy....

Hey Howdie...great work! Of course there is no time to discuss all scenes of the movie here, but one scene with Holly is very important to me when they are in her appartment and he apologises to her. But as soon as he does that she hits him out of the window. She actually wants to be dominated and his human approach / his empathy makes her angry.

Not going to lie when I watch this movie as a child I did not understand the extension of the fight sequence. Matter fact I never did understand it until it was explained in a documentary I saw. And then I felt stupid for not having seen it. Extremely metaphoric and still relevant. Just look at the political climate now. All these humans that are so blinded by their own racism and bigotry they cannot even see their own racism and bigotry anymore. So for the sake of their own comfort they yield to the hivemind mindset. I mean for real I pray for this 🙏 nation and world 🙏
Side note: are you sure about that Meg Foster thing. Her eyes look like that in every movie she's been in. Even an episode of Quantum Leap. I still say Frank's fate is just cold. Never did like that scene.
Her eyes are especially striking in the show Alien Nation, where she plays one of the aliens. This is the true color of her eyes. They're beautiful and haunting, I think.

@@michaelparylak5649 I believe you are correct. I think I was remembering her from that cheesy He-Man movie put out the year before. She played Evil-Lin and had a headpiece that covered her hair completely, making her eyes really stand out. The same effect happened with the other actress and the alien headpiece worn for Alien Nation. At any rate, it was a cool show and they did a movie that was pretty good, too. I just wish it had been on longer. It's easy to get a bit mixed up. Looking through Meg Foster's film acting credits, I've seen well over a dozen things she's been in, most when I was pretty young. So, because it's always her eyes I typically think of, having seen them so much, I got confused.

Why do they give us so much Truth in movies and music? Like they want to wake people up? Do they need/ thrive on the opposition? Are we giving them as much 'fuel' or possibly even more ( especially in the initial stages of waking up ) as those that are asleep/ hypnotized / disconnected from their higher self and totally entrenched in the system? I am unable to comprehend that these directors/ film makers/ anyone entrenched in the system are really trying to be of assistance, seems what they really want is the resistance.
"They" believe in cosmic law, and that law says you must reveal what you plan on doing. Now whether the "others" pick up on what's going down isn't of any importance to "them" my guess is because "they" know the majority of "others" won't figure it out!

A channel I listen to said the middle finger means heaven on earth, and the up yours meaning given to it is a subversion of the meaning.
I've always understood it to have been derived as a gesture the English Longbowmen would throw at the French whenever they met them on the battlefield. The french were so frustrated by the skills and effectiveness of the English Longbowmen, and would chop off their middle finger, those whom they captured, to ensure they were never able to draw a bow against them again. So, as a means of taunting the french, English Longbowmen would raise their middle fingers to the french across the battlefield, as a way to say "I've still got my finger, you've not caught me, and I'm still able to draw a bow, and am about to do so, with you in my sights."

Upon thinking about it further, I think NPCs do have souls. They have emotions and feelings too, just like animals. So they do feel things and have some sentience maybe. But the key thing is that their souls are not divine souls, but more like ARTIFICIAL/COUNTERFEIT souls, generated by the matrix. So they do have souls, but their souls are generated by the system and belong to the system. It lacks divine spark and cannot see outside the matrix or the illusory nature of it. They believe the matrix is real and therefore conform to it as if it were their nature, and accept that life is practical and all about making money, like nearly 100 percent of people in Asia do. For some reason Asians NEVER question their reality, and always believe that life is all about being practical and making money. There are very few Asians that are an exception, besides myself. So the NPCs pretty much dominate all of Asia. There isn't even a truther movement there nor is there a counter-culture movement.
