TLDR; Chlorine cleans, but is harmful. His process of creating music takes him to places that hurt, but that's where the good lyrical content is. So, like cleaning with chlorine, creating music for him doesn't always feel great, but ultimately is cathartic and rewarding while helping him process things he may have otherwise avoided.

That lil monster Ned is a representation of his creativity, the chlorine is representative of bad mental health. Just like Ned, he gets the most creative when his mental health is bad/the pool is full of a toxic chemical. A struggle many musicians recognize. You wanna be happy but it's hard to find inspiration in happiness. Strange.
"Lead is terrible in flavour but now you double as a paper maker". Same theme. He needs to feel bad in order to write songs, in order to make money. He's stuck.

he compares it to Chlorine because in small doses, Tyler needs music to help get his thoughts out and cleanse himself, but it can become overwhelming and become toxic - just as too much chlorine can
the other part here is this came in the Trench album, which was right after Blurryface when they became famous worldwide with Stressed Out, Ride, and then eventually Heathens was also released right after as a single with Suicide Squad - they took a year long hiatus where they just completely disappeared before the release of the Trench album - so "the moment is medical" and "when i leave don't save my seat, i'll be back when it's all complete" refer to this hiatus and basically saying they needed this time off to cleanse but don't worry, we're coming back when we're ready
lastly, Ned is the little character - he does show up in later music videos as well - he represents their creativity - so they are aiming to please Ned - you can see he isn't willing to take the plunge until everything is perfect - then at the end when it's back to just the little cup, he isn't impressed anymore
i'd say to try Car Radio, Migraine, or Lane Boy
A lot of their music deals with mental health but it's buried under metaphors and creative writing - also great live performances

You'll find that TOP is all about deep, introspective lyrics over awesome beats. Their layers have layers. Well worth it to start with songs from Vessel amd work your way current. There's a whole lore story that goes with their music and ties their albums together. But a great thing about TOP is that even if you don't know the lore, you can still connect with the meaningful lyrics and eclectic sounds. Tyler writes his music so that you can find your own meaning.
This song for him is about his cathartic relationship with writing music. The ideas start small, like what can fit in a cup. By the time he fills up the pool enough to satisfy his creativity (the little Ned creature), it can be almost toxic, because he's had to tap into some pretty dark places. He's tested himself like a weathered flag by the sea. Metaphors abound with TOP. You'll pick up more every time you listen to this song. It's beautifully poetic. And like all TOP songs, it's a thinker, full of substance.

You’ll see Ned again. Blurryface is another character in the Lore. Blurryface is also known as Nico. Maybe go back. This is from their 5th album Trench. Maybe try Fairly Local or HeavyDirtySoul.✌️😊🌼

So much variation in their songs. I always suggest heading back to Vessel album songs to start with, they have so many songs that reaction worthy. Since you know Car Radio from that album, maybe check out Holding on to you.

If you've heard the previous hits and just want to dive into the Trench era, there is a lore involved. The best avenue would be official videos for Heavydirtysoul->Jumpsuit->Nico and the Niners->Levitate for order of listening. You can blur them out like this one, better to clear them then getting blocked.

Definitely lusten to Ode to sleep, trees luce at Fox Theater, migraine and Lane Boy. This is a band that would never elude to taking drugs. They dont use "bad" language, they don't smoke, drink or do drugs. ( at least not that they show, although the sing Taco Bell saga has me wondering. Haha) They are both older brothers and they feel they are role models to their siblings, therefore they choose to act responsibly. Great Live Shows!!!
