      One of the biggest game changes in food prep wrt saving time is realising not only is peeling your vegetables/fruits for cooking not required, it extremely healthy option as there are many valuable nutrients lost when peeling that are especially great for developing young bodies of children for building their immune system. Not to mention the additional texture and flavour add punch to the meals too.
      Also, herbs, spices etc, are high value in anti-oxidents and many more, so when making baby/toddler food, don't leave them out, black pepper, paprika, herbs etc etc.

      You should try overnight oats, it's way easier
      Also, cooking is one of those things that you'll get better at the more you do it
      The first time I made something, i completely ruined it. I know it might make you feel worse because it's good and you don't want to mess up something you really need for sustenance, but I promise you'll get better at it the more you do it. A great place to start is eggs, if you do eat it. Make a sunny side up or scrambled eggs, fancy it up a little with something flavorful like sriracha and even some toppings like oregano, eat it with something you can get from the store like tortillas. Eggs always boost your confidence when you're starting out, so do try them

    • @LuisMartinez-os7fv
      @LuisMartinez-os7fv ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's amazing, and with more practice you'll be looking back and seeing just how much more u can incorporate and do more in less time the basics r hard but just like any basic skill you'll hav it down in no time, if you've never done it yourself ur not "bad" perse your trying and that's what matters, it would be like asking an orangutan too solve a Rubix cube sure he could prob do it with time but u don't blame him cuz he's never tried it before‼️‼️

    Not a student but I have never been to a store / farmers market where you can grab 1 egg, teaspoon of herbs etc. I would appreciate the realism here that you purchase the ingerdients like a student would, so essentially, planning a grocery list and then making it from there. That's where the true savings come from. I remember when I was a student the savings also came from what I could freeze or make in bulk, essentially cooking for 4 but freezing the 3 other meals for later use.

    • @stoopidoh1104
      @stoopidoh1104 2 ปีที่แล้ว +138

      The true savings come from actually cooking with what you have at home. Over an extended period of time, if you don't let what you buy go to waste - this is what it will actually cost you. How many people just let stuff sit and go bad? That is what I call wasting money.

    • @ciciamanda.
      @ciciamanda. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +99

      yeah i meal prepped some soup to but in the freezer not long ago. The soup was great and easy too make.. but now i owned celery... The recipe called for two stalks, but can you buy just two stalks? no. You buy a plant. So after the soup was done i was having to put
      celery in absolutely everything to not let it go to waste. It was a whole week of meals like: scrambled eggs - With celery, Wrap - With celery, Pasta sauce - With fucking sellery And so on.. (I drew the line at bread with celery. )
      So yeah, shopping is a pain and celery an even bigger pain. I will never again sit at my desk at midnight and eat half wilted raw celery stalks like an absolute gremlin. The soup isnt worth the pain

    • @ciciamanda.
      @ciciamanda. ปีที่แล้ว +29

      @@cooksoya7503 yeah i tried my best to cook with it, and i did end uo making a lot of food with it. The raw celery munching was a very desperate attempt to not let it go to waste as it was vilting.. and I don't have the economy to waste food and I didn't have the economy to buy more ingredients to cook stuff with it..... but I've learned my lesson: Any food is better than going hungry, except for raw wilted celery. I'd rather go hungry than eat that shit

      @@jaret6661 We have people selling fresh fruits and vegetable out the back of a bakkie (ford pickup sort of thing) on the side of the street.
      Plenty farmers markets in town, direct from our farmers, where public have access to the very market supplying restaurants and grocery stores.
      Our most basic, even low income grocers have fresh vegetables and fruit etc.
      And as for takeout, we have plenty healthy options which are even cheaper than the imports from US like Mcdonalds and Burger King, they are definitely better value for money.
      Even our frozen vegetables are affordable. Equivalent of US1.50 for 1kg (Over 2pounds) of mixed frozen veg.

They had to drastically adjust their approach and still barely making their 3rd attempt work. The only thing I would advice is, use what you have. I sometimes get some ingredients that I dont really use that much and they end up going bad. So, even if that means cooking the same food a couple of times, you should all do what you can with what you have. Search for recipes, improvise, try to have fun and try to not overwhelm yourself ^^

    Tip from someone who worked in a sandwich shop: if you’re too lazy to heat the tortilla in a skillet (like me) or don’t have a clean pan, microwaving it for 10 second will do the same thing. Also sauces are everything, don’t take much time to make, and are simpler than you think.

    Get yourself a sandwich maker, it’s a lifesaver! If you put lettuce and vegetables on the toast it’s healthy and in general it’s really quick and easy!
    For breakfast I often do porridge (just soak oats in water for a few minutes and heat it up) with greek yogurt with cinnamon and whatever fruits I have chopped on top of it.
    I eat way too much pasta! A favorite recipe of mine: cook your favorite type of pasta and throw some whole tomatoes in the pot with it, crush the tomatoes when putting it on the plate and add cheese, olive oil and some spices.
    I’m from Germany and we eat lotsa bread! Not the toast-ish American kind, real healthy bread. It’s quick and healthy! We call dinner “Abendbrot” - evening bread. I love eating it with cheese and cucumber or cottage cheese for example.
    Another great recipe is baked potato. Cut some potatoes (or just use small ones) and put them in the oven with some oil mixed with spices. A great addition is slices of pumpkin. It takes a while for it to be done, but the preparation is really easy. For the sauce I mix yoghurt with powdered paprika, honey and the left over spice oil. Rosemary is great for this one! You can even grow it yourself if you feel motivated to keep a plant alive.

    3. No money for snacks mostly. I am broke, remember?

    I'm Brazilian and I'm doing college during morning and afternoon. I'm about to leave my mother's house to live with my girlfriend. You know, having to live by yourself just means I'll have to struggle with more things since you don't have your mother or father or whoever to help you.
    I really love to cook, specially when I'm doing it with someone special or just alone listening to loud music lol. One of the biggest thing I was worried about was the quality of the food I would have, but you presented me fast ways to still having good, nutritious (I don't know if this word exists*) food, which I appreciate so much.
    Here in my country some of those ingredientes are expensive, like yogurt for example. Others, like tofu or oyster sauce are just impossible to find (at least I never saw it) and probably it would cost a lot if someone are selling it. So, if you please, it would be cool seeing others ingredientes being used to a future video with the same purpose.
    Thanks TH-cam for recommending it to me and thanks Kev, this will be a life saver to me ❤️
