Good adaption. I love the Diesel Theme arrangement in the opening sequence. I also really like how the story lines have moved on since the 50s and 60s, and how the diesels are cooperating with the steam engines - something that the current adaption of the TV series is badly missing.
I spoke with Dan in a conversation on DA sometime back and we drew a very intreasting conclusion. The reasons why Diesel seemed to be more of a 'bad guy' in *Duck and the Diesel Engine* is because it was told in Duck's POV. In his eyes, diesels were troublesome and replacing steam engines. It's also likely Duck was recoiling from his siblings being withdrawn and scrapped at this stage in time, especially considering Diesel's class is the one replacing his own on BR. In Diesel's eyes here, we learn why he believes his type are superior and he wanted to pay Duck out by hoping the big engines would give Duck other nicknames. But ultimately this backfired and then he did continue his lies. Not about Henry though, but to a policeman to try to get out of trouble. I guess my explanation why Henry was mentioned in the books instead was because the Thin Clergyman wasn't sure how to explain to kids that Diesel lied to a policeman.
You know, this take on the rivalry between Duck and Diesel makes it tie more to the TV series than the book Duck and the Diesel Engine of The Railway Series, since while in that book, it was explained that Diesel was sent away for telling lies about Henry, the TV series was ambiguous, with the Fat Controller saying "I never believed Diesel, so I sent him packing." All in all, this was a really good spin on the Duck and Diesel trilogy.
So Bowler was partly the reason Diesel was so concieted, huh? "It seemed that only one policeman cared about that law." LOL Who'd have thought that the Spiteful Brakevan was cooperative in helping Percy and Thomas before he went down in pieces...
WildNorWester you are a Thomas saviour, I absolutely love all your videos, all of the stories are superb and makes more sense, and blinking amazed all the characters you have made and created. Fantastic work mate, you've done a fantastic job, full support for you all the way, keep it up
I enjoy all 43 mins of this mate =) i really like how you have taken 3 stories and put them into one of course changing things to fit with your style so to speak and it was really enjoyable mate =) keep it up.
Wicked episode :-) nice to see you return on top form :-) an interesting look at diesel and casting him in a more favourable light e elect work HiT take note !
The Duck & Diesel Trilogy is a great trilogy and the special captured the atmosphere of the books exactly. My only gripe is that the narration was a bit on the quiet side. Other than that great episode.
Wonderful job, this is just as good as a real Thomas movie, if not better! I escpecially love your different angles on the story and extra scenes, beautiful work!
cool story! I just grinned like Thomas did when he and Percy played "good cop bad cop" with the trucks, something you never really see the engines do. I think it'd be funny to see one or two more gags with the trucks being fooled by engines, really shows how gullible they are. It was also very good to see a form of Sub-plot to "A Close Shave" where we saw how Diesel was found out for his devious deeds.
Given this video alone is easily the equivalent of 3 or 4 of his episodes I would imagine it will be a while. For now we should just be thankful he's been getting episodes out on an almost regular basis :)
That was certainly very interesting. Though I must admit I'm curious about the incident where diesel supposedly told lies about Henry after Duck left in the Railway Series;that would've made a nice addition to this story but still the ideas in this fitted together really well. Great work! :D
I truly hope we get an episode of Thomas and Friends involving Duck and Diesel and how they ultimately put their differences behind them. I don’t expect them to become friends or anything but we are past due with Duck having returned in Season 17.
An thus begins the end of the early years series, throughout the episode I noticed your Barry the rescue engine model and saw Oliver and Isabel made an appearance, keep up the good work
Through watching this series, I have found diesel to develop from his old ways, into a more down to earth engine. I see him to be more 3 dimensional than his representation in the tv series.Sorta reminds of Magneto from the X-men, He may be foe, yet he is a little misunderstood.
this is good 9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999/10
Class 40s were not used on the western region at all (they were, however, found in the west midlands), they were also not found on freight until the mid 60s when modern passenger stock became a thing.
It's a minor thing anyway and I'd say that because your series has a slightly different timeline from the RWS things are allowed to be different; besides this worked out really nicely. :)
I asked him about Diesel telling lies about Henry and he said it wouldn't fit with the direction he wanted to take Diesel in as he's drastically different from Diesel in the RWS and Tv series. You'll notice that Diesel is kinder in a sense because here he only told lies about Duck in hopes of getting the other engines to tease him as opposed to planning to get Duck sent away deliberately. That's pretty much why telling lies about Henry isn't in this :)
Diesel came in '68? I have the feeling it was much earlier than that. 1968 was the year steam was abolished on BR, and the same year Oliver was rescued by Douglas.
Will you every be doing another episode to tell the whole story of Barry before he went to the north west railroad. Is not, what happens to Lilly in one of your future episode.
Great Work wildnorwester! This really shows the in depth about why Diesel hated steam engines. I am surprised and shocked that someone would go back to show why he hates them. Excellent Work! P.S Just curious, are you going to release the Barry in RWS version on your site? Just Wondering.
Oh no James got called by trucks and diesel rusty scrap irons, Henry old square wheels and Gordon a galloping sausage and blamed duck for it as a serving right.
I've seen the classic series and something about duck always had me confused. He says the other great western engines said he "waddled" like a duck as he went along the rails and that's how he got the name duck. But it's really just a nickname I belive his real name is montique. If you ask me, montique is a great name for an engine! But he prefers to be called duck. I wonder if the "waddling" has something to do with his class' design. I mean when I was observing his design his body almost overhangs his wheels. Given that an engine like duck could very well wobble. His chassie is too narrow for his body or visa versa. But don't quote me on that I could be wrong.
+Anna Schmange It actually came from the Reverend Awdry's 00 scale model of Duck. Due to the way the model was made, it 'waddled' as it went down the tracks. Henry Mk 1's problems were also based on the model.
the models wheels werent completely round. you can imagine the motor going weew weew weew as the engine rolled along. owning a pair of ducks myself, it would sound like that.
Nicely done, but I was wondering if you notice this detail while reading between the lines in the Railway Series books: the Fat Controller said he found out Diesel after he told lies about Henry.
***** Close. I actually modified the driving bogey of the engine (after getting permission to do so from SI3D). By setting the animation distance to 0, that effectively stops the wheels from moving.
Good adaption. I love the Diesel Theme arrangement in the opening sequence. I also really like how the story lines have moved on since the 50s and 60s, and how the diesels are cooperating with the steam engines - something that the current adaption of the TV series is badly missing.
And Thank God you didn't say, "An idea flew into Diesel's funnel!"
CJ Balke but Diesel doesn't have a funnel, he's a Diesel locomotive.
*Radiator
Take it that was some Sharon miller stuff.
Cool! Very true to the original stories. There always was a gap for Diesel's actions...!
Wow this is amazing Wild nor wester

This has been the best development of character for these guys I've seen in forever. Amazing job!
I am proud that Diesel apologised in the end, :)
So Bowler was partly the reason Diesel was so concieted, huh?
"It seemed that only one policeman cared about that law." LOL

This special is amazing! Great added detail on the Diesel vs. Duck series.
Here goes rusty red scrap iron!-Good improvement over the narrating. Must have been a lot of fun voicing the trucks. :)
Lol, liked to see Oliver's appearance, and Barry's cameo :D
Same
Dis is great. you put all three stories from Duck and the diesel engine together but in diesel's view.
I like how you got it so that James actually sits on the turntable so that Duck's way is actually blocked properly as well
I still enjoy this old special because its based on my 3 favorite RWS stores about the Duck & Diesel Trilogy.
I enjoy all 43 mins of this mate =) i really like how you have taken 3 stories and put them into one of course changing things to fit with your style so to speak and it was really enjoyable mate =) keep it up.

I like that you eased up on diesel's rude personality
I enjoyed this. Some excellent character development from Diesel. Nicely done.
Waited for what seemed like ages: -) Thanks again mate, looking forward to some more stories soon
Wonderful job, this is just as good as a real Thomas movie, if not better! I escpecially love your different angles on the story and extra scenes, beautiful work!
What a great special awesome plot awesome shots awesomeness all round!!!!
Modern Transport Company Someone really out did themselves with that naming.
cool story! I just grinned like Thomas did when he and Percy played "good cop bad cop" with the trucks, something you never really see the engines do. I think it'd be funny to see one or two more gags with the trucks being fooled by engines, really shows how gullible they are.

XD just realized that the galloping sausage nickname was what u put on one of the episodes lol very clever

This is a fabulous video great work WildNorWester
I love how the fat controller sounds like sir sean connery
BARRY WAS IN THE INTRO
Through watching this series, I have found diesel to develop from his old ways, into a more down to earth engine. I see him to be more 3 dimensional than his representation in the tv series.Sorta reminds of Magneto from the X-men, He may be foe, yet he is a little misunderstood.
a wonderful production indeed (i expected none the less)
keep up the good work!
Very good 12/10
The wheel-lock-up sound effect during Henry's out-of-control session on Gordon's hill were from the '64 thriller "The Train", right?
correct!
yay"! Diesel is a good guy now. best character development in this series yet.
this is good 9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999/10
On and on and on I continue circling with nothing but my hate and a carousel of agony and slowly i forget
nice back story to our favorite devious class 08.
2:31 YAR IT BE BEAR BEAR THE PIRATE ENGINE
Love those 3 D's, Henry, Gordon and James use
Very nice TV movie dude, explains why percy could go to the Quarry and how the Fat Controller found out about Diesel, & Percy was a brave engine too.
When Henry was being pushed down the hill, and he was braking, I heard the same braking noise from the movie 'The Train'
I was not surprised by this development. He did come unstuck!
2:31 YOU DID WHAT WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!?!!
Oh my God, I just realized that engine he was pulling at the start of the flashback was Barry!
Jeffrey Yoe
Well, I mainly did it to give a glimpse of the character, and also to give him a bit of continuity.
Just a reminder, this video was before we knew barry in his series
diesel became white during night time
On the thomas and friends wiki page diesel came to sodor in 1957 and the class 40's where not built until 1960
Diesel was most likely a prototype
Class 40s were not used on the western region at all (they were, however, found in the west midlands), they were also not found on freight until the mid 60s when modern passenger stock became a thing.
GREAT MOVIE
how do did you do the locked wheels effect on Henry in 13:08
Did I see Oliver and Isabel in the background when Diesel was moving off to Sodor?
Yes. That particular shot was on the same route I used for filming the first part of 'On the Run'.
24:47, Diesel looks like a ghost.
This was amazing! Like 👍🏽
The diesel is back
It's a minor thing anyway and I'd say that because your series has a slightly different timeline from the RWS things are allowed to be different; besides this worked out really nicely. :)
I'm driven a class 08 and it is a lot more work than just a touch of their starters and they are off
Yay runaway theme 13:01 and Season 5 skidding noise :)
Poor Old Diesel.
Great video. =)
I LOVE TRAINZ SIMULATOR 2010 THOMAS IS MY FAVORITE!
Heath Whitley I like 2012 better
that was really good for a excellent background of diesel and too wat happened to him after the incident at the sheds :)
I asked him about Diesel telling lies about Henry and he said it wouldn't fit with the direction he wanted to take Diesel in as he's drastically different from Diesel in the RWS and Tv series. You'll notice that Diesel is kinder in a sense because here he only told lies about Duck in hopes of getting the other engines to tease him as opposed to planning to get Duck sent away deliberately. i don't know how to do the locked up wheels either. but i need to know because there are several instances where i need the effect.
Diesel came in '68? I have the feeling it was much earlier than that. 1968 was the year steam was abolished on BR, and the same year Oliver was rescued by Douglas.
That should have been 1958.
nice wheelslip effect
Toby found out that diesel lied
Nice Oliver cameo
So this is like the other side of the stores
Will you every be doing another episode to tell the whole story of Barry before he went to the north west railroad. Is not, what happens to Lilly in one of your future episode.
awesome
How is it painful? Also, I would like to remark how brilliantly this was done, the and, and the dialogue.
42:11 gordon and henry look at james, james is slightly cross eyed laughed so hard!
I know this could be false but according to the Thomas wiki, on Diesels page it says he arrived on June 1957.
+channarith sok Yep. The wrong date was a mistake on my part.
+WildNorWester Oh I see.
@@WildNorWester you haven't been uploading for 1 whole year is everything okay sugar cube
@@freyamurray7951 I just needed a bit of a break.
@@WildNorWester are you going to make couriers and concerns STMY season 2 3 and 4
That old SI3D Gordon's Hill is painful to look at...

Such a great episode, but I do get a feeling that it's like the TV episode Pop goes the diesel
+Ben Scrimgeour It's a remake of those three stories, retold from Diesel's point of view.
+WildNorWester Ah right a bit like the live action movie Maleficent then, But still such a great episode though and keep up the good work
Not the Touhou song
One of the engines deasil rescues is barry
It bears some resemblance to Paradise Lost.
why do the trucks not tell thomas and percy straight away i mean what did the have to lose
I liked Percy & Thomas's police work.
Oh no James got called by trucks and diesel rusty scrap irons, Henry old square wheels and Gordon a galloping sausage and blamed duck for it as a serving right.

***** I see. So panniers didn't have that problem in real life. Class 8's like diesel proved more efficient though
Train Master OO gauge is the sane as the american HO scale right?
Nicely done, but I was wondering if you notice this detail while reading between the lines in the Railway Series books: the Fat Controller said he found out Diesel after he told lies about Henry.
I didn't have Reading Between the Lines when I wrote the script.
I didn't mean the book, I mean when you were literally "reading" between the lines.
Streamlined Engine OK Spencer. I see where you're getting at
what did you base the diesels story off the tv series or the railway series
Touhou reference? 🤨
7:14 Oliver make a cameo.
how did you make Henry's wheels lock like that?
where did you get Emily Helen hat from and steven hat all I can find in Charles hat
Steven Hatt is just one of the other people available for Trainz. Emily Hatt is a model I made myself - she's private, and won't be released.
When can we expect the next video you put up?
Wen are you going to released Barry the Rescue engine en widnorwester i guess hi wil look in baked
I always wondered why Diesel was the way he was, now I know..
Sigh When Will You Learn Diesel
well actuly i want them all
Is that class 40 the same one that appeared in Bowled Out
ShadowHawkGames Yes
How did you make the wheel stop spinning wildnorwester
***** Close. I actually modified the driving bogey of the engine (after getting permission to do so from SI3D). By setting the animation distance to 0, that effectively stops the wheels from moving.
These diesels need to shut up and quit hating if steam engines weren't invented neither would diesels
