    I love this. Trash to treasure is my favorite. I recently found a 1890s’ish Victorian style sofa tossed out and am working on it now. The frame is in terrible shape. Yours looks amazing!! Can’t wait to finish breathing new life in my trash find. It’s slowly coming together.

    My grandmother has done upholstery herself and when she comes to a project that needs to be reupholstered. When the frame is completely exposed she fills the previous work with either wood putty, matchsticks with glue, toothpicks with glue, or wooden dowels / pin dowels with glue

    Thank you so much for your video of reupholstering your chair and the patient description of the process. You mentioned during the video, problems that you encountered with tack holes from earlier workings. I don't know whether you approve of or have tried this, but in the past I have used PVA wood glue spread into the holes to seal then, or hide glue if working on a period piece to achieve a sympathetic repair. Larger holes or cracks can be filled with glue mixed with sawdust of an appropriate wood type to create a bond or fill the void.
    Moz...

    Given the color scheme chosen, and tone of the wood, I think the upholstery tacks were the appropriate choice for this piece. Sure, a double welt could have been used, or even cording, but there isn't anything about furniture tacks that ISN'T in keeping with a bergere. Job well done! : )

    You did wonderful work, and an amazingly thorough job. You also did an excellent job with the video and instructions. Thank you so much for making this. It's unfortunate that you had to use such a strange combination of fabrics and colors for this nice chaise longue. Did you see any markings? It looks like it could be Henredon, perhaps?

  • @nancyburridge
    @nancyburridge 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am quite excited to see your video. You were very concise and clear in your instructions. I do have one question: at 46:40 when you were struggling with that batting and padding, why would you not turn the chair so the batting would lay flat and permit gravity to help you? Is it because it is a chaise and therefore long in length?
    I saw a rather lovely upholstered chair for $10 at a local thrift shop which I did not buy because I did not know how to upholster, but after seeing your video I am excited and know I can do it. My first piece of stained glass after the beginner class had approximately 150 pieces and turned out beautifully. What a joy to create like this!
    Thank you so much for making the video and then sharing it? I will be back at that thrift shop on Monday to see if it is still there. I am thinking navy leather. My sewing machine does sew leather.

    Maybe you added an overstuffed cushion for a reason,,, the 🙀 and you obviously had some material left over from the footstool but to be honest you did an absolutely amazing job of reupholstering the chair(the throw awayers would be gutted they threw it) but I have to agree with other comments, the cushion material detracts from your beautiful leather, please make another cushion and add to another vid, thank you

  • @Drkajavab
    @Drkajavab 9 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    I'm not a fan of the cushion. The rich color of the leather is fantastic with the wood. Maybe if the cushion had had the same golden/mango/yellow tone it could have worked but honestly...you should have gone for the leather cushion :/ More importantly, what idiot gets rid of a beautiful piece of furniture like that!?!?!? The leather work is nicely done...I'm going go drive around now and look for beautiful antique furniture being thrown away!
