On the route through Mesopotamia, I have had the opportunity to visit the ancestral homeland of one of Turkey's religious minorities, the Syriac Christians or Assyrians. This minority was widely persecuted throughout the last century, and many had to leave their homeland. Now, some have returned, and have brought back the best pizza in the Middle East. A pizza that not only comes directly from Italy, but is also a way for an entire people to assert their place in their homeland.
In this video I don't just go to Kafro, I take a tour through the heart of the Syriac lands, located in the Mesopotamian plain, and visit its capital, Mardin. Despite being a well-known destination, it still retains a special aura, which is reflected in its historic architecture, with the orange stone that is characteristic of the whole region. The city is not only beautiful, it is also an important historical testimony to Christianity in the Middle East.
