      +Douglas Crabtree you won't be disappointed, sadly I'm only half way through my first box (and been that way for 3 months...) but a half dozen units of these on the table ought to look pretty good (so only about 5 years to go in my case!)
      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment

    I think if you accept the boxes won't give a complete 24 figure battalion they are good value - particularly if you get the discount by buying three boxes at once. The centre company and command mix well with the metals from Front Rank reinforcement packs but the flank company figures don't work so well together. The solution would be to buy a couple of packs of Front Rank Voltiguers and Grenadiers which would give enough flankers for three battalions. FR also sell individual figures so worth a look...
    You can tell I've been researching this subject myself.

      There doesn't seem to be a perfect answer does their, I think being a historical gamer is about compromise and sometimes accepting that things aren't going to be perfect is part of that. For me I just sculpted a few shoulderpads and tassels and called it a day.

    Can you tell me what the units are that would use the heads with caps ( ie not a shako or bearskin) ? I dont know them

    • @Vincent1989
      @Vincent1989  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I stand to be corrected (my knowledge on the period is fairly limited) but I belive it's a forage cap so could be worn mixed in any unit, perhaps to represent loss of a shako (they could be in poor supply or the unit has been on a long campaign). It's not, as far as I am aware, specific to any particular regiment.

    what was the ink/wash you used to get the dark matt color on the one you painted. thanks

      @Vincent1989  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Max C I use either nuln oil or agrax earthshade depending on the base colour black for greys, blues and 'cold' colours brown for warm colours ie red, brown, beige etc hope that helps

      +Vincent1989 Ah thanks. Don't they leave a glossy effect on the model though? your one looks beautiful.

    • @Vincent1989
      @Vincent1989  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Max C they will do if you don't shake them well and apply in thin coats however even if you don't shake the pot and you apply it thickly then a coat of Matt varnish at the end will take off and shine.

    box says up to 1815?

    • @geekgames3692
      @geekgames3692 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      E-4 Airman on paper that's not quite correct, various uniform changes mean that these would be in accurate for use up to that period however with the exception of the helmets they are close enough, if you can forgive a bit of historical inaccuracy, to use for 1815. Personally I would prefer to buy one of a number of different plastic kits more suitable for that phase of the war. Personally my money would be on the Perry set.

      if i am looking for Waterloo battle figures what company in your opinion makes both British and French the best?

    • @Vincent1989
      @Vincent1989  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi E-4 Airman, There are a number of good companies producing good models for that period and a lot of it is down to taste. 3 stand out in my opinion, Warlord games, who make a hybrid plastic-metal both where the centre and flank company models are plastic and the command models are metal. they tend to be more in the traditional miniature scale with exaggerated hands and heads. The French are modeled exclusively in great coats and both French and British are modeled in a march attack pose
      Victrix produce British for that period, they sell them in separate boxes for centre and flank companies, are considered to be a more realistic scale but as a result are a tad more fragile.
      As mentioned previously though my money is on Perry miniatures:
      www.perry-miniatures.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_62&products_id=1970&osCsid=f1m34egcae332srl7jbi0kbrf1
      www.perry-miniatures.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_62&products_id=1655&osCsid=f1m34egcae332srl7jbi0kbrf1
      appropriately scaled, in a mixture of posses to represent flank companies performing a screening action. The British are in a firing line, the French in march attack. both boxes have a high figure count - 40-42 models - for a good price of £20.
      I believe all 3 offer army deals where you can save some good money. Warlord games also offer a Waterloo starter set:
      store.warlordgames.com/collections/napoleonic-british/products/waterloo-black-powder-starter-set
      Hopefully that should get you started.
