Forget about cheap rent and cheap food. Think of safety, cleanliness, health, and lifestyle. Don't bother with these countries Yemen, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Myanmar, and Bhutan. Malaysia and Thailand should be mentioned. Cambodia is a good choice.

Unless you have some money saved up to start your own business and hire a few local people to help you, it may be a little too soon to try and retire in Cambodia (unless you have a Cambodian wife and she has a self sufficient family). Cambodia is still trying hard to rebuild its economy and they still have trust issues in some regions because of Pol Pot. Phnom Penh is safe but without honest connections, it’s very easy to get scammed when attempting to start up a new business. And if you don’t speak the language, you’re going to absolutely need to employ a trustworthy assistant to help you communicate and do all of your shopping. Malaysia is modernizing rapidly and costs are increasing accordingly. If you’re a practicing Christian, you will not be able to express your faith to anyone or carry a Bible. And they do check to see if any foreigner is carrying a Bible. My Phillipino associate has been arrested twice for carrying a Bible on public transportation. If you’re Jewish, don’t even consider Malaysia. If you’re Islamic you’ll have no problem at all. It is an amazing and beautiful country. And reasonably affordable compared to Thailand.

Tajikistan used to be part of China on & off for centuries. Now largely an independent country. One part belongs to Pakistan. A small part belongs to Afghanistan. A small part remain with China. They enjoy better living than their cousins outside China.

When Westerners think of "Asia" we really do not include the Middle East but only Southeast and Far East Asia countries like Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam. Thailand, China. I understand that much of "Asian" culture actually comes from India, but their genotypic and phenotypic look is much darker and different than we think of when we think "Asian". Sorry, but that's just my honest view and the view of many of the friends and acquaintances I discussed this with, even friends from Korea, Japan, Vietnam, etc., who tended to agree with me as well.

I think you must be an Indian or one with an Indian heritage. I've been to all the countries you mention except Vietnam. I don't think much of Asian culture comes from India as you say. And excuse me for saying this, most of the countries you've mentioned actually don't like the Indians.

@@abc-mp5er , Buddhism, a major religion which spread to China, then Korea, then Japan, etc. is from India. "Damo" allegedly taught the Shaolin Monks of Henan, China, the Yi Yi Jing (classic of tendon exchange), internal gong fu, which similarly spread from India to China, to Korea, to Japan, etc. All the Chi Kung (Qi Gong) you see everyone practice in the world comes from India. I'm not Indian. I study history, though I am not expert. Enough to know that Indian culture DID influence what most of us (including "moi") consider "Asian" cultures: Southeast and Far East Asia, excluding Indians, because most are dark-skinned and thus don't fit the genotype/phenotype of what Westerners consider "real Asians". This is just a viewpoint. People have different views on this. Is a culture a genotype or a collection of historical, linguistic, and philosophical viewpoints that are similar? Nature or nurture?

@@abc-mp5er The word Asian and Asia to me translates differently. Asia is part of the continent, and Asian are people from SE and far east countries of Asia. It like saying Asian and Middle East. With that saying SE and far East Asia countries doesn't not inherit culture from India and that is incorrect. 80% of SE & far East countries culture come from Chinese.

Why is the area of the country necessary? In particular, all six digits of the number? Two significant digits is fine - Same for the percapita income - what difference does it make whether the avg income is $986 per year or $953? They're effectively the same - they're all pretty poor. Meanwhile, the price of a loaf of bread isn't one fixed number, like 40¢, it'll vary between cities and the countryside, and probably more expensive in the wealthy neighborhoods, so a range like 30¢ to 50¢, like you do in some places. Same thing for all the other prices, and most of the numbers.
And, instead of just saying the numbers, it would be a lot better to have a table listing all the countries, plus the US and maybe some other western countries, for comparison. And maybe a half dozen or less prices, like monthly living expenses, rent, dinner at a restaurant, etc.
