Brilliant playing, I’m on page 58 of Ken Perlmans book, not started drop thumbing properly yet but I’ve had a tinker and I know the hours of work and repetition that you’ve put in to be able to play as clean and swift as that. Absolutely fantastic, a pleasure to watch.
Great job, I enjoyed the tunes. Your fretwork is fantastic. I admire how can keep your level of concentration up enough to get through all three songs.
@4bumbler I don't use melodic fingering. I've never been able to wrap my head around those, but I certainly love hearing players who can. When I move up the neck, I generally just play out of closed chord shapes.
If you 'add-in' lots of triplet-arpeggios and use open and alternate string pull-offs .... you'll even get that FULL HOUSE - WALL of Celtic-style SOUND.
@sk8er5uk I learned a ton from Ken Perlman's book "Everything You Wanted to Know About Clawhammer Banjo." I also do a lot of drop thumb where the thumb lands on a string higher than the middle finger. After awhile that starts to feel more natural than alternate string pull-offs (at least for me).
Cool playing. Took LOT of work to do that. Cool transition also. Dying to hear you do something. Maybe try some California Roll banjo triplets on there?
bravo. amazing. magnifico! i envy you. im learning the banjo as i post this comment. i cant quite grasp the finger picking. being a guitar player all my life using a pick. i feel overwhelmed.
~Absolutely Brilliant - please can you advise me on how you learnt to play celtic tunes clawhammer style? I'm fine with drop thumbing etc and I think my clawhammer is sound enough but I have no idea how to start with 6/8 time and celtic tunes! Please help! Thanks
I think this was absolutely FABULOUS. Not sure where you might have learned the tunes but would sure appreciate your response. Where could I find the tabs, etc. Thank you very much for sharing this wonderful playing and well chosen tunes. Kelly
I heard him live at house concert. He is just fantastic but then he opens his mouth n spews out socialist political views and ruins the concert. What a shame.
@@rattyfingers8621 I don’t give a fig for the politics of the player, it’s the music and if someone has a certain conviction thats their right. You don’t have to agree. Applaud the music
0:06 Maid behind the bar 1:26 Green mountain 2:38 sliver spear nice playing brian love the sound

Wow some of the cleanest clawhammerin on TH-cam! I aspire to play this well someday.
I'm glad I now know you can play irish folk on a five string and not just a four string
If you 'add-in' lots of triplet-arpeggios and use open and alternate string pull-offs .... you'll even get that FULL HOUSE - WALL of Celtic-style SOUND.
Thank you, nicely done!
Amazing picking and taste!!!!!! I added the video in a playlist of Irish 5 string

I believe that first song is The Maid Behind the Bar.
Good banjo players seldom show facial expressions. Like they are all poker players at heart. 🀄️
Sheeee-ooout! That's a mighty fine pickin' and a grinnin' ! I hear they'll pay ya $10 if ' ya sing into a can! Keep it coming!

Dan Walsh sounds awesome! Love how he really drives the tempo. Thanks for the recommendation!
