    When using a life line I usually mark my pattern, usually in pencil, so that when there is a need to rip back I know where I am in my pattern, no counting and less fussing, thanks for the review, saves a lot of hours of worry. Great video, love them all.

    I just started knitting, and when I took my first Zoom class, our instructor at some point taught us this method. She also mentioned not to use wool on a wool project, but to use cotton, so it wouldn't "stick". It has saved me innumerable times! 🙂

    Someone had mentioned a lifeline on a Facebook group and had no idea what she was talking about. This is a great tip. I had tried a brioche pattern but kept making mistakes and it was really confusing on how to go back and find the mistake. I actually gave up. This now gives me the courage to try the brioche pattern again. Thank you for sharing this.

      I'm so glad you discovered this tip - it will be really helpful for brioche! Someone else mentioned in the comments she makes note of what row she inserts the lifeline. Then, if she has to rip back, she knows exactly what row to work next! 😀

    I use embroidery floss in a color that contrasts the yarn. The floss glides out with any yarn. Lifelines have really saved hours of 'tink'ing a project.

    I had heard of lifelines and how they work but sadly, didn't put it into practice when working on a patterned yoke of a sweater. It took me hours and 18 rows plus of ripping back, then the challenge became how to figure out where I was in the pattern. I now use the lifeline on intricate sweaters, shawls or anything else that requires a lot of concentrateion.

  • @donnaroach73
    @donnaroach73 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I used a lifeline yesterday in fact. While knitting my difficult Aran sweater I was at the section where I started to decrease stitches for the sleeves of the back. Instead of panicking in case I made a mistake, I used a lifeline. So far so good. Whew! Great video Nancy!

    Lifelines are lifesavers- otherwise I would have to stick with my self imposed vow never to knit lace again but only crochet lacy items (better for my sanity). I do have a tip to add- some interchangeable needles have holes you can use to put thread or dental floss though so you can add your lifeline while you knit a row. I toss the floss samples I get during my dental visits into my project bags as this works great for fingering yarns.

    This saved me so many times, especially as a beginner! When I first started knitting I would always be so clumsy and lose stitches and a bunch of other mistakes so finding out about this, also from this channel, saved me a lot of time (and sanity xD).

    • @yumahideki782
      @yumahideki782 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lenaraullo5263 Hello! All you must do is follow the instructions in the video. You can do it the exact same way for any pattern/stitch. You must thread right next to your knitting needle, through the open loops. Hope this helps you understand better! ^__^

    Hi Nancy, I have used them before and it’s usually after I have a mistake to try and fix. The way you used the needle and threaded it on is way easier then trying to pick up the right v so you can pull back. I have also tried using the lifeline hole in interchangeable needles and what you did is easier to me. Thanks a bunch!

    Lifelines save shawls. I knit a lot of lace and most have pattern repeats. I separate repeats with stitch markers. When adding a lifeline, thread it AROUND your stitch markers, not through them. Otherwise you can’t move them up with the knitting. They are stuck down with the lifeline. Ask me how I know this! 🤣🧶🤦‍♀️
