    I am a knife maker from Israel (hobby) and I have used a Japanese wet stone for a long time, I have bought this system from Amazon a year ago and it is extraordinary! Amazing sharp knives.

    Great video. I’m going to turn my grinder around as well. I feel like that will help me see my angles better as well as make me feel a little safer as I learn this system. Thank you for your clear explanation on your process!

    I started with a lansky. Which works great but man it takes hours, then got a tormek knockoff, and I've really screwed up a few knives with that, so I got the edge pro apex, and it's great, but like the lansky, takes a lot of time, especially if you're making a knife, not just sharpening your existing knives. I think I gotta give this a shot, thanks for another great video. I echo the other commenter too, keep it up, subs take time, your vids are 100% well put together and great. Your timeline and editing is on the money imo.

    I bought this system and sharpened a few knives but exactly what you pointed out, I didn't really like it and ultimately ended up shelving it. I need to re-visit it and take some of these tips into account and just practice more. I need to just dig out some old cheap pocket knives I have to practice on. Learning and enjoying the vids!

    Thanks for posting! I got the system and lost my edge with thin kitchen paring knife. I had to use my commercial sharpening machine to put edge back on. Will follow your directions with some cheap knives to get the hang of it. Won't stop using my wet stones as of yet!

    Same here. I have them and it’s frustrating because I’m not getting good results. I have an 8 in grinder and I believe it goes too fast. I have a hard time setting the angle. I’ll probably try a 1750rpm grinder and see how that works.

      I asked because I have realized how fast rotating tools can be dangerous and moreover the slower the speed the better for the result
      I am even thinking to buy a wet grinder that rotates ar about 100-200rpm
      As i am a beginner i am not that clever with tools
      Kind regards Gino

    Here is an easy way to make a visual aid for the sharpening angle. Take a flat piece of copy paper and think of it as a circle of 360°. Fold it once lengthwise. Now you have 180°. Fold sideways to make a 90°. Then fold twice from the 90° and you will have 22-1/2°.

    Love your channel and your designs. Questions on the paper wheel…are you setting your secondary bevel on your 2x72 or the paper wheel?…also, have you had any issues with heat? Assuming your grinder is standard 3500RPM give or take.

    • @gentrycustomknives8008
      @gentrycustomknives8008  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used to completely set the bevels and finish on the paper wheel, however I was having to re grit my wheel every couple months so now I’m doing most of my sharpening on the 2x72 then using the wheels for touch ups. Heat can be an issue if the wheel is worn down or your applying to much pressure.

    I too found that using the manufacturer's angle method really sucked...I ended up doing the same thing you did..if you wanna fuck up a knife you can do it quick with this system...get some cheap practice blades and practice with it first..you'll thank me later..patience is the key..make many light passes...you're not gonna get it with 1 or 2 passes..
