    I lived in England until I was fifteen. I vaguely remember this pudding/dessert! Was watching Downton Abbey the other day, and one of the characters referred to trecle tart, and a light bulb went off in my head. I do remember golden syrup. You can buy it on Amazon! Here in the states we use molasses instead of trecle!

    Coming across references to treacle tarts in the Enid Blyton stories as a kid decades ago, I always wondered what a treacle tart would look (and taste) like.
    From this video, they look (and appear to taste) delicious. The word decadent comes to mind.

    So sweet but so delicious. A nice little tip when putting the pastry in the tin, if you take some of the excess and roll it into a ball you can use that to push it right in to make sure you don't end up with thick edges that don't cook properly.

    !DO NOT FEED BIRDS BREAD! Or anything with yeast in it! The yeast causes digestive problems, which can be fatal if they eat a lot of it. Also, bread and everything else made primarily from flour have next to no nutritional value for birds, it just fills them up, so if they don't get problems from the yeast, they will still be malnourished. pet shops might have bird seed for pigeons and waterfowl if you want to feed them something good for them, or give them bits of vegetables (find out online which kinds). Where I live, at least in winter, many supermarkets sell bird seed, because many people hang birdhouses in their yard or garden to help the local birds, or make balls by mixing the seed with lard or suet, which they hang on tree branches (we used to make those in preschool).

    • @taniasaezbarra
      @taniasaezbarra 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Where do you get this info from? Yeast dies at the temperature you cook bread, there's nothing left in the bread that could be related to yeast. For the other part I agree, not really nutricionally packed.

      @@taniasaezbarra Where I live some parks and other places put out warning signs in winter because people love to feed ducks and swans bread. I'm not a scientist, I just know what they tell us.

    • @kiki2755
      @kiki2755 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They've changed their mind about feeding bread to birds and are taking down the signs as lots of birds starved to death over the winter and the mai reason they put the signs up in the first place was because more food meant more poop and they didn't want to keep cleaning the public areas

      Official advice from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds...”Although bread isn't harmful to birds, try not to offer it in large quantities, since its nutritional value is relatively low. A bird that is on a diet of predominantly, or only bread, can suffer from serious vitamin deficiencies, or starve. Only put out an amount of bread that birds will eat in a day.”

    • @Runstyr

      Molasses is a by product of sugar refining from sugar cane. It's also a by product of rum making, also from sugar cane. From watching videos on sugar production, the process (and it is much more a refining process than a recipe) is time and space consuming, complex and messy. Unless you have outdoor space that can be used to process sugar cane, homemade molasses is beyond most home cooks. If you do try it, I'd love to hear how it goes ☺️

    If your bread is still fresh/soft, then place slices in a low oven to dry out before blitzing, or grating.
