Hey everyone!
Just checking in, I've been sick, again, and getting the hothouse finished!
Enjoy!
The website still has A LOT to go on it, there is a lot of dead links and empty space and even some 'sample stuff' from the template I bought, but if you'd like to look at how a sample recipe will look, here's a link and feedback is always welcome :)

Your hothouse looks great, well done on working so hard despite not feeling well. Hope the shopping trip goes well and you feel better 😊 Petra (Tony's wife)
Yay for the hothouse! How exciting! Sorry you got sick again… I absolutely love your channel. You are always so informative and so easy to “copy”. Although I am extremely excited about you being able to get your website going, I also understand the work and time that goes into building one. You always have such good recipes and ideas. One of the things I love about you is the ability to take one of your recipes and alter it to fit what I need or based on what I have on hand. Your use what you have approach is so refreshing because so often influencers make you feel like you have to have a ton of special ingredients you don’t necessarily have on hand. I appreciate your down to earth approach and I look forward to your videos. Sometimes I feel kinda like a stalker bc I check your channel regularly for new videos. Thank you!!!!
I think most of us are stalkers, too....
Naww thank you! I definitely try the 'this is how I do it' approach rather than the this is how you 'should' do it, because I adapt as I go and I think that's key in spending less and making things work for you, if you are strictly copying something you just won't be able to make it work for you, you need to customise it to your household and your priorities! :D
You are so amazing doing all the things you are doing for your family i love watching all your videos i get excited to see the next one.😊😊😊😊
So happy to see your channel grow 🎉Your tips for cooking and baking are doable and love learning from you and your family.Keep up helpful tips
So glad to see you!!! The hothouse looks wonderful! Great work!!
Thank you for sharing !!! ❤❤❤❤
Look after yourself and safe travels. Hothouse looks great 👏👏
Thank you Rosemary, and I'm really happy with the results! :D
Your greenhouse and hot house looks great. Hoping you will have better luck with your crops this year in the raised beds. Good work as always. Hope you feel better soon
Fermented honey garlic is good for you when feeling yucky. You poor dear getting a cold. The hot house looks good! Really good. Lots of work to complete. Its OK!!
It looks great! I give you a lot of credit for all the hard work you guys do. Everything takes time. ❤
Thank you :). Everything just runs slower here and sometimes I get awfully impatient!
Hot house lookin good. Have a safe trip.
I’m so sorry you’re not feeling well :( I hope you feel better before having to do the shopping!
Your hothouse is awesome!!!
I’m so excited to hear that Daryl takes the kids to church - my kids love church - I never was raised in church so I’m learning!
Also so excited to see how they like comic con - I have a feeling they are going to love it! My kids love comic con as well (usually they have panels and activities for kids of all ages). I used to enjoy comic con a lot but as I’m getting older I’m not so wild about the crowds and prices. 😂
Happy birthday to the twins 🎉
Homesteading is all about learning while doing, and then we see how it works for our uses, and adjust what we need to. Being willing to try and fail, and try again to get to your vision, is what makes us homesteaders sustainable. Keep going, you are amazing. Too many people aren't willing to try, due to the risk of failure. Creativity comes through failing and trying again!!
Definitely trying and not succeeding gives us the opportunity to learn and try again in a different way, sometimes it is hard though, to reconcile that loss of time and resources with the learning that I've received from it! :D
Oh, my goodness! I am thrilled that the hothouse is coming along so nicely! Even though you are sick, and we all know mother's usually can't just stop, I can see that you are so happy. Sure hope you get better soon. Thanks for the update. Janice from Arkansas USA
Progress big or small is progress you've done amazing x😊
Definitely, feeling good about almost finishing something!
Such a lovely hothouse! Take care and have a good shop in Brisbane.
Thought of you today as I went to Costco. They had sugar cane mulch on sale at $10.99 24m2. $3 off. It is a dark straw. I grabbed some. I do like how you have incorporated the hot house and greenhouse together. The roosters looked absolutely unhappy about being on the outside. He he. You might need to grab some vitamins (maybe) to give you an extra something while your poorly. Look after yourself and I hope the shop goes well.
I saw that the sugar cane is on special! I don't know that I'll have any room for it though lol. We'll see.
I take some supplements and probiotics and stuff, just can't seem to catch a break this year, I dunno what it is, I don't normally get cold after cold lol.
I would love such a greenhouse; it looks fabulous.
Doing an Awesome job!!😊
Love the greenhouse!! And YAY 9K subs!! Way to go!!
Last few sheets going up today! hopefully it holds temp overnight tonight! FX! :D
Wow it looks great , it’s going to be good to see you working in there. Excited about the grocery haul ,
Looking great well done ❤❤❤❤
Yay! So happy for you guys! You deserve it! I sure hope this will help you have a very plentiful year of vegetables .Sorry to hear you are sick, it’s coming up on our flu season here in the U.S not looking forward to catching stuff going around. I am also on a lot of meds that suppress my immune system, plus my middle daughter is a R.N at a major trauma hospital and they have people with all kinds of illnesses. Maybe we can escape a few things staying home. Prayers for a safe trip shopping ,try to rest when you can❤TFS!!!
I was getting worried about you! Thought there may have been fires around your area. So pleased for you guys with the completion of your hot house/ green house. Onwards and upwards from here!
No fire, thankfully, small one a bit away that got controlled quickly, but nothing significant! Just me not being able to get on top of things again hehe.
Praying you stay healthy this time. Hothouse looks great.
Well done on your hothouse! Looks fabulous!
So exciting to have it pretty much done! :D
Wishing a safe and prosperous haul. I hope you feel better soon. 😊
Thank you Kerri :)
I only shop for two and i hate doing that, you deserve a medal Nyssa !!! Hot house is coming along nicely,
Nyssa girl look after yourself nothing worse than a cold 😐 progress made on garden is great. 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏Love from the UK x
The hothouse is amazing 👏 .
Really happy with it! Has been getting lots of use :D
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Do you plan for some thermal mass in there? The floor bricks are very nice but probably not enough, considering they're not likely to get much direct sun. Usually the cheapest thermal mass is the soil and then growing close to it (think a small tunnel with layers of row cover and then plastic, put up inside a larger greenhouse, so the soil warmth keeps the small volume a bit warmer at night and the row cover acting as insulation).
Another way to put it: air is a decent insulator, but also cools off rapidly after sunset, so it can prevent the space from losing too much heat but the heat has to come from somewhere.
Coiled piping to heat water during day and water being kept in the greenhouse is another approach. Would be interesting to see what you come up with and how it performs. Let me know if I can help 🙏
We've put some black piping in there for storage purposes and some wicking tubs will go in there with water/soil etc, FX it can start to keep the temps up overnight :D
I love the new necklaces.
I fully understand catching everything going as I’m immuno suppressed as well. I suspect it’s worse for you though with your many children.
I enjoy watching your videos and your way of life. I’m in Canada and wish I had a partner that would undergo this type of lifestyle with me. I do my best on my 1/2 acre with a small garden, chooks & bees.
I’ll be waiting for your retw it’s groceries.
**return with groceries.
I don't think Darryl is as invested in the lifestyle as I am, but he is enough that he helps out lol.
Yeah, I think its been a bad season for colds and I just get everyone that comes into the house lol. I don't go places much, but they all do! :D
The hot house looks great, much better than I could do. And I completely understand getting sick because of children, my daughter brought me home a horrible head cold. Enjoy your trip to Mums.
I’m really happy with it!
Sunday chat just as good has on a Tuesday lol lol, breathe lady lol catch a bit air and relax :) . you have loads to do but bit at a time , if veg not in ground don't worry buy them for a while give you a chance to finish one project first , nice to catch a video up from you
Someone suggested you and your channel in a comment on one of my recent videos. I'm here catching up with what all you've got going on. Nice to meet you.
Hi there! :). I shall check out your channel when I’m finally home from the current 6 week supply run hehe :)
Any progress is good progress Nyssa. Last shopping trip I asked if you wanted a fridge we have spare. It's still available if you have room. Just let me know.
Thank you Carmel, Space becomes an issue! Let me see if I fill the trailer with the barrels I'm after if I can get my hands on them lol.
The hot house looks great! Hope you feel back to 100% soon. Nasty colds sure can get you down fast.
Snotty noses are the worst, they impact your sleep and give you a headache and Urgh, thanks kids! Lol
Greenhouse is proceeding and that’s 🎉🎉🎉exciting.
All forward movement is good!
@@OurSmallFootprint yep sure is
Make sure your taking your vitamins before you go out!!!😂 drive carefully!
Oh Nyssa don’t worry…this whole 6 weeks has been an up hill struggle for you….scrap it all and start fresh 😁….no pressure …. All this stress is not helping your health… get well….have a good trip..lol hot house looks Fantastic!…. Just wondering can you use/get heat pads for your seedlings? I use them in my basement with light (of course) and it keeps their temperature up even when the temps are too chilly…
We have the seedlings on heat mats inside atm, so yes, we could take them out there and hook them up to the secondary solar out there and it may be something we do, but I was kinda hoping to keep them on heat mats inside and then move them out there as I pot them up kinda thing! they need so much more care when germinating, its nice to be walking past them all day to check them lol.
Try apple cider vinegar and garlic powder and honey mix in jar take every morning and every evening before bed
It will keep you well
Just had a crap day, the hospital sent a letter about scan results. I’m not happy and need to phone doctors.
The Hot House looks awesome. Feel better Nyssa.
It's working really well :D
I just had a thought. If you haven’t been to Bunnings yet, would that weather strapping that you put on the bottom of a door to keep droughts out work for the gap in the door of the hothouse? You can get a plastic one.
Yes! We discussed that, for the bottom of the door! We have a spare one here somewhere so I'm going to try and find it :D
Hey Nyssa, I love how you call your shopping trip an 'Ordeal' haha 😂
Nyssa, you are a true social media influencer!! Aldi in Scotland were selling enamelled cast iron roasters this week. I was waiting for the doors yo open the day they went kn sale. Great excitement! When i tried to pick one up i realised they were far too heavy for me to manage. Did i buy one??? No.... i bought two!!😅😅😅😅. Now i dont have anywhere to put them in my kitchen. Just to be like Nyssa😮
Lol, they are weighty, but that’s why they work so well too! The kids have broken so many of my ceramic ones and the stainless ones warp because I cook over high heat :s
Earl andShadow don’t look to impressed with your finished greenhouse but I’m very impressed with your handy work . Get well soon Nyssa ❤️
Heh, no more roosting on my planting shelves!
Hi. Just stopped by
Hi Nina :D
Hey Nyssa just wondering how you get water ? Are you on rain water ? Do you ever have to pay to get it filled up when run out ?
We are on rain water yes, but we also collect water, there is a community bore about 10 mins away that we are able to use, the water quality is so so, but fine for the animals and stuff, we collect it in IBC's, we also have access to a stand pipe in town about 30 mins away, we pay $2.50 odd (It might have gone up, we put money on a little stick thing and you put the stick in the standpipe and it takes the cost of the water off) per 1,000L/IBC to top up the tank, we probably do that at least once a week, we do not have enough roof space/rain to survive on rainwater alone :D
We have a tank on the house that is for drinking/showers/etc. Then a few smaller tanks scattered for other things, garden, animals etc.
@@OurSmallFootprint wow well done. Thanks for answering
Hey Nyssa🥰 The hot house looks awesome 👏🏼 👏🏼👏🏼 Earl & Shadow look a bit disappointed they can’t get into it to poop anymore 😂🤣😂 Safe travels into Brisbane & hope you’re feeling a bit better by morning 🥰
Lol, they’ll have to find somewhere else to spread their poop!
@@OurSmallFootprint 😂🤣😂
Will you use the Mr Stacky’s this coming season? For anything other than strawberries?
I'm going to try them, yes, but to be honest, I've not had huge success with them, I think because we're just so dry, I have so much trouble keeping them moist, I think I'm going to empty the mainly coir soil out of them and add some organic matter in there, use them that way, not sure what I'll plant in them though, what do you think I should try ??
I thought the coir was for the hydroponic system? Could you add water crystals to the soil? It says to manually water the top 2 tiers, not just the top one, water won’t filter down efficiently. Perhaps you need to plant more drought tolerant crops in it. Herbs?
@@traceyTibbles07 I got the hydroponic solution with it as well and perlite was added to the mix, and I did water the top two tiers but I still found it dried out really rapidly, the strawberries definitely didn’t flourish, so yes, maybe herbs, prob not a fruiting plant I think!
Mary from Mary’s nest, has just put up a video with a similar video. Perhaps follow her journey, as she also lives in a very dry area. She’s going into an autumn crop, but see what she does next summer as well.
Try to take it easy for a while xxx
