Curious about modular synthesis, electronic music, and sound design, but unsure how to get started?
I have something for you! Join my FREE "Intro to Synthesis" mini course here: www.soundandsynthesis.com/firstpatch2022
PS: You don't need any special gear to do this-just a computer with VCV Rack (which is free to download).

I just won this unit from a Moog Audio contest today (yes, it exists!) and wow, how deep it seems to go! Thanks for your crystal clear explanations, your videos are great.

Got a 'Hector' a few weeks ago but this has been too hard to resist so 'thanks' for making me order another module I don't even have room for. Wonderful to watch as always!

I’m a fan of polyeffects so it will be nice to compare hector together with euroburo. I did it in pedals and my decision was to hold the beebo, but now I’m interesting in eurorack version.

this is a fascinating idea. what an interesting design! i didn't understand what was going on at all, until you explained about "patching" things by holding buttons down, and then i was like oh. oh! oh my

Thank you, Sarah! I picked up a Zoia last month and have just been going through patches supplied by the factory and some of the excellent patches done by others. Your vid inspires me to go deeper and come up with my own - and to interface it to my Hydrasynth!

This is super rad! I'm currently trying to pick out my next synth purchase and your videos have been really helpful. I've watched your videos on hydrasynth, strega, and euroburo. I'm looking for small but powerful, and I think zoia is it. If I were to get strega too, that would be a really cool duo with contrasting approaches. Thanks for providing great demos for those who like ambience but as well raw chaotic and harsh noises, because when you bring those two together it makes for cosmic dynamics!

The trumpet into the granular and delay was really something magical.
Thank you for sharing all your more unusual experiments! It's great to see that the ZOIA systems really as open-ended as people's imaginations! Some amazing and highly experimental sounds.

Great video. Had it on while at work, will definitely have to watch again. Seems to be the case with me and your vids. So good, got to watch more than once. I have one of these, but need to put some tin in with it.

Absolutely loved the breathing and quick notes played through the multiple granular processors

I purchased a euroburo two weeks ago and it is a bit of a rabbit hole of learning for sure. I have the Hydrasynth desktop as well so I know what I'll be doing on my day off today :) thanks for the video and patch ideas.

Thanks for finding so many ways to turn these gear exploration videos into inspiring synthesis education. I walk away wanting to patch with whatever I have on hand, and on a plane ride today that was Drambo on my phone.

hi Sarah! Got a question for you regarding whats happen at 9m23. When you say sequencers mixed together.. how did you patched those same 2 sequencers?

Hi Sarah, very well done review!
Do you have any other fx recommendations for processing instrument live? I would like to create live performance focused around sampler (OT) and some improvised saxophone parts. I was wondering if modular is the way to go or maybe usual stomp box format will suffice. If possible I would love to have a compact solution just like your onboard preamp module, but I guess it might get pricey pretty quickly ^^
It seems really handy for patching and tweaking though…
    Thanks for any suggestions, cheers!

Thank you for this video and explaining how this works. I love the customization of the modular synthesis. I love how you can truly sound design and make unique ideas. I was wondering if I got the pedal form, could I do all this? What’s your thoughts on the ploy beebo pedal and the ploy hector? Thank you for your response.

    • @sarahbellereid
      @sarahbellereid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

You’re welcome! Yes you can do almost all the patches I showed in this video with the pedal - the only things you couldn’t do are the patches with CV out/in.
I personally haven’t used the Beebo or Hector but they seem interesting and would also be a lot of fun.

Is anyone making an editor for the Zoia? I've seen librarians but not an actual editor. Something Reaktor-style seems relevant.

What kinds of levels can the audio inputs and outputs accept/put out? Is it all eurorack level? Line level? Can it boost instrument level enough by itself? Does it put out eurorack level through the audio output or line level, or can it be configured to do either? Are the audio inputs/outputs DC-coupled? I assume the CV inputs and outputs can deal with audiorate inputs and outputs just fine? Thinking of buying the one with its own little case and power supply. I have two semi-modular synths that I'd want to patch it with, but I'd also want to use line level equipment into it.
