  • CROMER | Is Cromer in North Norfolk the perfect seaside holiday town?
We walk through Cromer Town Centre and down to beach and Cromer pier to see what this popular tourist destination has to offer.
When we last visited Cromer on the Gimbal Walk TV Travel and Tourism channel we only did a short walk so I wanted to return to the Town Centre and the seafront to do a full tour of the streets, hotels, shops, beach, pier and sea to see what Cromer really has to offer tourists and holidaymakers.
People come from all over England and beyond to visit Cromer. It's easy to see why with the historic Cromer Pier, the sandy beaches, the long promenade and esplanade and the beautiful town centre.
Dominating the skyline here is the Hotel De Paris which overlooks the seafront and looks down on the famous Cromer Pier.
Famous for Cromer Crab and Crab fishing, Cromer has been a holiday and seaside town for centuries, attracting tourism and people coming for their holiday for many years.
We begin our Cromer Tour up on the clifftop on Runton Road, walking down to the Town Centre. We head into the town via New Street passing Leisureland Amusement Arcade and along to Jetty Cliff and High Street.
On this walking tour we take in all the famous landmarks including the Parish Church, Cromer Esplanade, the fishing boats and the colourful beach huts as well as Cromer Pier itself.
Further down we pass the lifeboat cafe and the RNLI Henry Blogg Museum which tells the story of decorated RNLI volunteer Henry Blogg.
We take time to admire the Hotel De Paris which is a stunning and imposing looking hotel.
For the perfect seaside day out or holiday visit Cromer, Norfolk. Just four miles east of Sheringham it's a delightful and beautiful seaside town.
Cromer is a coastal town and civil parish on the north coast of the English county of Norfolk. It is 23 miles north of Norwich, 116 miles north-northeast of London and four miles east of Sheringham on the North Sea coastline.
Cromer Beach is vast and you'll never run out of space to find to enjoy making sandcastles, catching crabs, paddling in the sea and more.
If you want to fish for crabs you can do some crab fishing from Cromer Pier too!

Grew up in Cromer for the first 15 years of my life, not much better ways I can think to have grown up in my opinion. Lovely cliffside/beaches, plenty of parks/leisure spots and something was always going on in the town (especially Summer time!). Currently a happy resident of Norwich but I will always cherish and appreciate how lucky I had it to have grown up in that fine seaside town.

Quintessentially British seaside town. Particularly enjoyed that soothing sound of the surf. Stuck in central Canada on a rainy day, this me realize that I’ve not been anywhere near the sea and the sea air in the UK for quite some years. Unusual absence of lifebuoys on the pier. Thanks.

I recall many years ago holidaying in Scarborough with a few mates and the weather was great - in the low 70's all week. Each morning we would take a quick peek at the weather forecast in a paper in the local newsagents and one thing we noticed was that Cromer each and every day of that week had temperatures in the mid 50's Fahrenheit and a sea fret. The rest of the country was basking in quite lovely weather whilst the poor sods holidaying in Cromer were huddled in their cagoules.

As a Norfolk resident I still enjoy Cromer, as it hasn`t been completely overtaken by seaside tat yet, but I fear this is only a matter of time. For a quick visit, I prefer Wells simply because there is more elbow room. As always, it is horses for courses.

The distance keeps most of that away. Skegness has direct trains from Nottingham, say no more. Cromer is worth it when you get there, especially if you get hotel. The lack of cheap chain hotels also helps. Lol I always go for the cheap chain hotels for the benefit of economy which means I have to ride over from Kings Lynn. I like variety though so I'll do Hunstanton, Brancaster, Wells, Sheringham on the coastal B-road. Cromer is also good as Sheringham is just 10 minutes up the road.
The new trains in East anglia are really good, if you want to relax & have a drink on the way
👍. If like me you book in advance then it's good to have the option of trains if it decides to rain all week.

Unlike Churchill, I enjoyed your video of Cromer very much. The pier was so cute. It also seems that the coastal areas you’ve been to lately are very clean. I wonder if the runner knows she’s on yt 😂 Loved the sound of the waves, such a great share. Keep on walking 😀

I visited Cromer for the first time last week and to be honest it did not do much for me. I much prefer Sheringham.

@@GimbalWalkTV Just down the coast a little more and your there lol.. If you go to Southwold, you will find on the pier, a part which is run by Tim Hunkin, all his homemade machines are in there and are very different from the norm to say the least. Tim hunkin done a tv show back in the day for the BBC called the secret life of machines. He has a channel on here also..

When I hear Cromer I always think of Ronnie Corbett episode in comedy Sorry 😂 but it does look amazing it's a pity it's so far away from where I live in Scotland ,. Did you stay in the Paris Hotel and was it good ?

Didn't stay there no. I was just here for the day. I've not even been in there yet but will do!
Was Sorry related to Cromer then?
      I loved that show!

I would have enjoyed it more if it had been filmed using a different lens. Mid-distant landmarks such as the pier looked very away while passing parked cars they all looked like stretch limos. Plus the distortion of tall buildings is very marked. It took away the realism for me. I realise you may have to pan rather more using a different lens but it would produce, literally, a more realistic view. I do like and appreciate your films so I hope you don't object to my well intentioned comments.

Unbelievable!! Cromer is the birthplace of the bravest man in recorded history, he was
twice awarded the George Cross which is the exact equivalent to the military Victoria cross.

@@GimbalWalkTV Thats very subjective and like Veronika says each to their own, i was brought up in West Runton went to school in Sheringham sadly though they pulled the school down and built a retirement home.
I live not far from all these places and still visit them regularly but not Cromer its lost its appeal and charm to me, the wife an i love Sheringham its smaller more quirky, West Runton too, Mundesley, Brancaster, Holkham, Blakeney, i hate to many people Wells has become to over commercialised too bit like Cromer.
We like quiet sleepy places less hustle and bustle, Sheringham country park is beautiful this time of year.
Favourite beach would be Sea Palling its beautiful a small pub a small cafe a small chippy and a penny arcade for the children to lose themselves in with all the pennies from the family penny bottle.

Nice advert for the place. It’s not so good away from the seafront and tourist areas. Bit of a drug problem around the place too. But no , it’s not the nicest beach on the coast.
