    Sootch,
    your videos have been extremely helpful to me, as I've just started the tactical process. I just ordered my Klarus x12 and Maxpedition fatboy. I've just bought my 3rd AR-15 and your suggestions meant everything. You make me want everything. As a college student, that's a problem. lol.
    thanks for everything.

    Been lurking around here for a couple of years. I had to get this light to replace my 12 year old Peak LED Solutions light. Great size, great price and great performance.. I expect to carry it for the next 10 years.

    I carry a Zebralight H502 for my EDC. I bought it for work, and have carried it for over two years. I've dropped it from the top of a ladder and it still works great. It's a floodlight, having virtually no throw, but it's very versatile, having a headband that it fits in. I haven't found a more useful camping light than this fine little light. It also runs on a single AA battery, so it's cheap to feed.
    I would love to see you review one of these. I would even mail you mine so you wouldn't be out anything. Lemme now.

    Hey Sootch, love your videos! PMMA = Poly Methyl Meth Acrylate = Acrylic. It's the same plastic as your tail light lenses. Good durability but won't cloud like your Polycarbonate headlight lenses. Loved the crush washer shot in the bench top background! Keep up the good work!Winkel

    I personally like the orientation of the belt clip. It allows you to clip the light to your cap brim for a nice hands free hat light.

    PMMA is some kind of plastic resin which has outstanding optical character and TIR is acronym for "Total Internal Reflector"

  • @functionfirst7355
    @functionfirst7355 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm impressed Olight spent the time and money to develop the TIR lens for this light, which is very costly. It's strange to me how the battery terminals are reversed, with the positive side towards the tailcap, maybe there will be compatibility with the recharging station should they develop it in the future? That'd be cool.

    I have had S10 for couple years. Amazing amount of light in such a tiny package.Only down side is the thing that I like to keep it in my jacket pocket and due to accidental activation, I have found it empty couple times. Now I am testing leaving battery cap loose as it should prevent it from going ON accidentally.

    An update for you, Sootch: independent reviewers have been toying around with this torch, and what they found out is that apparently the current drain on the S1 in moonlight mode meaning it will NOT last 25 days. It'll last for barely three.
    If that's true, it's one heck of a letdown.
    EDIT: Proved. Moonlight only lasts for 63 hours, Low for 15 hours, Medium for 3 and High for 1. GOUGE!

    You had me at "magnetized tailcap" so tired of the taste of flashlight. Plus a great price; I think that I was on of the first on my block to have a Surefire flashlight (the original 6P) and it was amazing. At that time fifty bucks was an outrageous price to pay for a flashlight now,some of their models cost hundreds of dollars! This should serve me well.

    Sootch, love your reviews and all things firearms, knives, LED flash lights and any EDC related items and bugout bags!
    Regarding, the PMMA.... it has to do with the quality of high acrylic and design they use.
    "The TIR lens is engineered to exacting tolerances and molded from high-quality acrylic (PMMA), which offers outstanding transmission efficiency and is virtually impervious to UV radiation. Each lens is mounted in a molded polycarbonate (PC) housing designed for alignment to a specific LED, providing precise location of the lens at the ideal focal point allowing it to achieve over 90% light transmission efficiency through superior design and superior material."
    AWESOME, huh?

  • @adamselene621
    @adamselene621 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not astoundingly bright, but for the size, that's excellent. Unfortunately, it is so small it doesn't take a good battery; only fits a CR123A style battery and those only give you an hour or so at that level of output. It would be great for a glove-box emergency light, plenty of time to change a tire or whack the engine with a sledge. :)

    G'day Don,
    On your recommendation I got 2 x S10 Batons 2+ years ago. They are great, dependable lights. CR123 batteries are expensive down here so I was happy to buy an S10R + S15R. Again, fantastic EDC lights. I'll hang off on the S1 Baton until they make a rechargeable model. Seems it will be the perfect on-hat EDC light. Once again an outstanding video.

    • @DinnerForkTongue
      @DinnerForkTongue 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do know it can use RCRs, right? You just need a separate charger.

    • @BillHalliwell
      @BillHalliwell 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      G'day Gunner,
      I don't think this model has the right tail cap to suit the charging unit. The other 'S' series Baton range don't - they don't make a connection through the tail cap. I'll take another look at the vid. just to check.
      Cheers,
      Bill

    • @BillHalliwell
      @BillHalliwell 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just looked at the vid again and there is no 'charging cap' on the S1 Baton that Don is looking at. Without that cap it won't make electrical contact with the charging unit. As far as I know.
      Cheers,
      Bill

    • @DinnerForkTongue
      @DinnerForkTongue 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      G'day, Bill Halliwell,
      Indeed, it doesn't charge in the light. Which is why I said you need a _separate_ charger. Thrunite MCC-2, Xtar VC1 Plus, Nitecore Intellicharger U1, take your pick.
      Even without that bonus to functionality, however, it's still a very fine little light. I don't regret purchasing mine even if I have an S10R.
      Cheers!

    • @BillHalliwell
      @BillHalliwell 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      AOK Gunner. I copy you now. The S1 works on rechargeable batteries; charged from another source. Good idea. I'll get one now.

    i like this light but went with an s10r a few months ago. i hardly use the charging base because after a few times it wasnt charging the light so maybe there was debris on the tailcap of the light or charger. i'll wipe them down and try it again but i usually just charge the battery on my nitecore intellicharger i4 or i2. aside from the size i wanted a light that was small but could run on cr123a primaries as well as a rechargeable. when my tlr-1's or x300 ultra eat up the batteries and start to dim i like throw in a fresh pair, and just kill them off in the s10r. i use the hell out of the magnetic tailcap btw.
    had i not bought an s10r, i would be buying this s1 for sure, but the s10r suits my needs better. when i do carry the s10r i have to lock out the tailcap with a 1/4 turn to loosen it because many times its gone off in my pocket and killed the battery. one time when i actually needed it, and it was my only light on me for once, and i didnt bring a spare cr123a because i thought it was fully charged from sitting on the charging base all night, i go to use it and it kept shutting off. i charged the battery when i got home with my intellicharger and havent had that problem again ever since

      +Say0n yeah i own that one already [;)] but things like the only lens up carry Clip, the side switch design that always puts the light on in your pocket and the mediocre anodizing made me stop carrying this light, even though there are some things (like the UI) that i really loved about this light.This just seems a little more refined.
      And yes i am somewhat picky with my lights :D.

    This is a straight copy of the message I sent to Marshall, PREPAREDMIND101 and JRESHOW. Starts here->This question is directed to Marshall but sure anyone can answer if they know anything about this. So straight to the point. What do you know about the quite often reported issue where Olight flashlights cannot sustain/turn on Turbo S mode with the Olight batteries? Olight's official take on this seems to be to stay quiet and maybe tell people to wipe off the connectors which is silly. Only reason I would see that works is because to do that you have to unscrew the tail cap and that cuts the power and resets the light. Wiping off those connectors almost feels like an excuse to hide an underlying bigger problem like maybe driver issues or too sensitive battery protection. Please Marshall tell me what you know about this because I know you know your lights. Thank you!

    does it have a glass lens? some of the chemicals I work around fogs the lens if plastic. I bought a 4sevens because it had a pyrex glass lens. Ahh! I just looked up the PMMA lens (a type of acrylic) this particular model says its a TIR lens which is a cone shape. Think of it like a prism reflecting light off of it's internal surfaces from the facets, enhances lumens.

      Just like any other regular light: take the batteries out and put them in a charger.

    Would it be okay for me to use my SF123A batteries in this light?

    Are you not going to put your videos on Full30 prior to youtube? If so I see no reason to go to Full30 anymore.

      +Scott Person Full30.com is doing great and I have a number of reviews there now that haven't been uploaded to YT. The S1 Baton review was released here on the day it became available so it would reach more people as a favor to Marshall. Either way, thanks for watching brother.

    Heard you comment about the overheat protection. Does it only run 500 lumens for a minute or continous.

      Only some 3 minutes, then it steps down to 300 or so.
