I can not imagine a better tutorial, thank you so much! A question: we are thinking to raise turkeys in our recently planted orchard... do they tend to damage the bark of trees? Which kind of tree protection would you put if so?
excellent Turkeys raised in pasture # use canvas fabric large sheets in summer to cover the Schooner top & walls since Aluminium sheets are metal & high heat conductor & radiate the heat inside room # nice water tub fountain to attract Turkeys towards water #❤️❤️👍
i got a question pls, i've seen booth video but i did not seen given any vaccin or medecin to the turkeys , it's possible to raise them without or u did it but not on video ? i like ur video so much its so much information btw
Thanks for watching, and that's a great question! Where we raise turkeys in Central Arkansas (United States), vaccines are often not necessary for raising poultry. Different regions or countries have different diseases for livestock, so make sure you research vaccine requirements for your area!
@@HeiferUSA definitely, youve got a lot of good information in the pig video too. Im hoping to try those out later this year to have one for our freezer and one for fourth of july neighborhood party next year. Keep up the good work.
I have a question. If I understand correctly, you produce 3 batches of 500 turkeys each. Can the second batch graze/range over the same area where the 1st batch did? How much "rest" should an area have between consecutive use by two different flocks? Your videos are very informative and enjoyable. Many thanks for sharing your knowledge.
According to our Grassroots standard the schooner must not pass over the same area for a minimum of 60 days, but preferably not passing over the same spot within the same poultry growing season (February-November). Here at the Ranch we have enough land that allows us to give our pastures a rest for 1 year before returning our schooners to the same area.
We use several different products to sanitize hands, clothes, equipment, and more. Check out our video on biosecurity to see what products we use for sanitation (and when to use them): th-cam.com/video/1h4ElEfn300/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the lesson, I also have about 50 turkey on small scale, the common disease is fowl pox .l m salveri in Uganda. also we need knowledge about common diseases treatment and prevention
Aspiring farmers can apply to volunteer at Heifer Ranch to gain hands-on experience in poultry production: www.heifer.org/usa/volunteer.html Otherwise, our TH-cam Channel is full of valuable educational resources on poultry production. Let us know what you want us to make a video on next!
Why do Turkeys have to be day ranged and chickens dont. I know you raise cornish cross chicken but are there other chicken breeds that have to be day ranged?
A lot of growers let their layer hens day range, but because these are broilers and we move them every single day, it wouldn't be very efficient for us to integrate day ranging for broiler chickens.
Hi Abraham! Great question! Poultry generally does not like to get wet, so make sure you have shelter for them if they are out on pasture that keeps them dry as much as possible!
Hi everybody I'm growing turkeys in Egypt. The poultry feed is expensive. So is there any try or study that help to reduce the expenses. I have read about amino acids and some other protein products that helps in growing the turkeys and saving money. Have any one try?
How much waste is there with poultry. Meaning when you process the bird what all is usable? Feathers are they useless? Also is the poo good for gardening?
Hi Tara! The percent yield of a turkey is usally around 55%. The manure is usable in a garden, but needs to be broken down/composted first. Turkey feet are usable, livers, hearts, and gizzard are usable, blood and feathers can be utilized into blood meal if you, but this usually only happens on a larger scale to make it economically effective.

That drone view of the schooner and the previous places it was set at is pretty neat to see.
We love to see the difference in land that's being regenerated. The drone is such a neat tool for seeing that perspective!
Baby turkeys are just like puppies!
Thanks for sharing lot of information. It is amazing how much effort it takes to raise turkeys.
Yes it does!

yes, they come vaccinated from the hatchery for common illnesses in our area.
New sub. Good stuff. Thank you from southeast Arkansas

Hello, Sorry if I missed it, how many turkeys per schooner?
