That old brood comb would be ideal for swarm trapping next spring.
Beekeeping regulations in Australia specifically ban the use of old brood comb in swarm traps due to the high possibility of disease transmission. Australia has a biosecurity code of practice that all bee keepers should adhere to. You can find a copy here if you are interested. honeybee.org.au/programs/code-of-practice-and-national-bee-biosecurity-program/ Item 6.3: A hive placed for the purpose of catching bee swarms (a swarm catch box) must only contain foundation. Frames already drawn or that contain brood, honey or pollen are not permitted.

I recon you should have let the Lady know at the ABC that the kettle is no where near as impressive as the oven they make the scones in. Did she not know the Girls belong to the local CWA chapter??
