I'm not an army. I think BTS is amazing though and anyone who says BTS hasn't paved the way for kpop in the mainstream market is delusional. I live in South Africa. The only reason I knew about kpop was because I worked in SK as an English teacher for a couple years. Even in 2017 people in my country had no idea what kpop was nor did they know where Korea was. But today people in South Africa know BTS, they know about South Korea, they even show a kdrama on our public broadcasting network. This all started with BTS popularity. No other group or artist has ever done this from Korea. If BTS created that much exposure for not just kpop but Korea in general in South Africa of all places, they definitely paved the God damn way.

She had to put the definition because kpop stans say "BTS didn't pave the way, it's xx bc they invented lightsticks and photocards".
Also when she said Psy is a one hit wonder, she is talking about him globally. In Korea of course he isn't and have had many hits, but globally aside from maybe gentlemen that was pretty popular (nowhere near as popular as Gangnam Styles tho, but still had a pretty big international présence a for a kpop song), he is considered a one hit wonder anywhere outside of Korea.

That is a very generous interpretation.
      1. gen invented K-pop.
      2. gen. after full establishment of K-pop in SK crated paths to Japan, maybe Phillipines and part-time China (Chinas poiltics make that an unstable thing: sometimes wildly successfull for SM artists especially and that partially erased to be seen again a few years later - confusing). Boracity also said second gen. *destroyed* the way.
Psy? Had some success and was frozen out because he couldn't circumvent the foreign entertainment media that sabotaged him. So there may be a few rests of space in an otherwise dense forrect left - but nothing more.

Fast forward to 2022 can anybody with a straight face say that HYBE isn't the best K-POP company because these new groups debuting under HYBE LABELS is straight fire 🔥🔥🔥. It has gotten to a point where i only listen to a few K-POP groups outside of HYBE because the groups inside the label are so good. Nope 2nd generation of kpop has no factor to bts being a kpop band. Bec what they contribute to BTS? Nothing. BTS is created to be a hiphop group not even a kpop group. What people should given created for is Black culture. Majority of BTS music are inspired by black artists. Even the korean artists they look up aren't kpop idols but korean hiphop artist like Epik High, Tiger JK and the rest are hiphop artist. Just listen to their Hiphophile song. No 2nd kpop idols are mention. Also Bang pd never said he created bts bec of 2nd gen group. Weird how kpop stans keep pushing 2nd gen was important factor to bts. Like how? Bec as someone who listening to kpop since 2008. 2nd gen kpop musics are so different from bts music. The difference is so staggering. You won't see any kpop band like bts before them. So many people talk about the BTS Universe as the "I Need You" HWYH Era on but I always say that to really know who BTS is you must listen to their first album the album that describes who they really were and how they started. Songs that really show who they are listen to songs like their first Cypher, No More Dream, then on the 2nd album, N.O, or If We Ruled the World, then the 3rd where they put Just One Day, Jump, then Danger, and most important Hip Hop Phile. All these songs were before HWYH before "I Need You". Those and many others were so important to know who BTS are.

I've heard BTS say they felt more like themselves on their later albums. I'm not saying those first few albums weren't them but they were so young and just starting out as a group, who knows themselves and the music you want to create when you are just 15-20 years old. I mean they watch their old music videos and cringe. I think the messages in their music was honest, but I definitely think as they grew as people and as artists the music became more of who they really are. Just my opinion.

The music was their music from the beginning so HipHop Phile was theirs, The Cyphers were theirs, there were songs they didn't like because others berated those songs, I think those songs more than any spoke of kids that were going thru puberty but what do I know. The fact that their HWYH period was the beginning of their winning I do not complain about but to say that their beginning were not formed by their listening to black music Hip Hop in general and R&B is wrong on its face.

this video reminded me of that whole thing a few years ago where all those agencies had a meeting to discuss about changing the law to allow kpop performers to be exempt from military service, and how although BigHit wasn't even at the meeting and how BTS have stated multiple times that they didn't want exemptions, BTS was used as the main reason as to why the law should be changed. And then all those agencies were pressed about how when the law did change, it would only really apply to BTS because they needed the Cultural Merit award and only BTS have achieved it. so in my opinion, they kinda shot themselves in the foot there. If they really wanted the law to change for their groups, they should mention their own groups impact and popularity, reasons why THEIR OWN group should be exempt, not reasons why BTS should. She never talking shxt about them but appreciate them for introducing KPOP but we all know that they never paved the way for other artists like BTS did. Facts 💯 and IMO : yes kpop had been known, especially around their neighbouring countries. I remember how we all loved SuJu and Shinee here in the Phils. And even before that Boa. Then, PSY had a instant hit, Gangnam which had his "song" go viral in the US. But that was it. The people was only interested in the song but they never found the need to know about the artist, like who was PSY? Sure there were some stories but NEVER TO THE LEVEL AND DEPTH PEOPLE HAD FOR BTS.
So PSY, opened the door. Peeked in and slowly retreated, but here comes BTS, kicking that damn Door. The 7 Kings of Nobody, backed by loyal armies. 💜
And just a reminder.. Remember when BTS was ever first nominated for BBMA Top Social, how others kept hating, saying its just a paper award, that their idols do not need those.. All I can say, karma is a Btch huh, who's aiming for who now? 😏😏😏😏

Them disregarding BTS made Armys to counterattack them but yeah we got called toxic for that. Maybe you are new to kpop and even if you are not kpopstans love to change history..BTS gets hate everyday from other kpopstans just because of their bitterness and insecurities and mostly when Armys call them out..they tag us as toxic people when in 2018 kpopstans sided with Japanese Nazis who were giving death threats to BTS but yeah we are the toxic ones. Those who can never be truly happy for others or can never acknowledge others’ achievements, will get nowhere in life and it’s so damn true. Because if BTS managed to earn their place at the top of the industry even if they had nothing going for them at the start of their career, just proves that others’ fame or success is not what is stopping your’s…but instead one’s success comes down to how much work one chooses to put in. That being said, their fans have seen the sacrifices they have made and the amount of effort they have put in since day 1 ( while only focusing on themselves instead of always trying to downplay others ) BTS being successful is not what is stopping other artists from succeeding, but one thing that I can tell you is that all the negativity and anger that kpop fans are constantly throwing at BTS isn’t gonna get them or their favs anywhere either.
BTS earned their title and place at the top of the industry and that has been set in stone, no one can take that away from them 💜👏

BTS are not just artists anymore, they are also humanitarian. There is no other fandom like army. Like seriously! Nobody is doing it like them and they chose to do it the right way. The kids in Korea were listening to BTS, but understand, BTS lyrics made them hugely controversial in Koea due to sociatal norms. Parents , schools, and some churches did not their kids listening to them. So BTS was more underground than you think in S. Korea. On top of that, the Make-up... OMG you would have thought them serial killers for the bite back they got for that. Together, BTS took a stand wore more make up and wrote lyrics about Liking girls. LOL plus RM and Suga's mixtapes went after those haters Hard. I wish I would have been there.
But through their genius move of using social media, and chooseing to be themselves and give back to ARMY their music was being heard more and more, then weverse, run BTS, their shows, let people see what great guys they were and for me, in reading and researching their history, the BIG turning point was Burn the stage.
Here are these talented guys, writing lyrics about hope and love and the endless possibilities that can bring to each of us, getting hate ? Then People who are tolorant, loving and believe in a global world started to notice their light, and WOW, here we are. All we needed was someone with a platform to stand up and say;" We See You, we believe this can be, and let's do it together." Here we are, speaking out with kindness, being careful with our words, asking questions about our differences because we all want to know each other. BTS. Bulletproof is right. 68 yrs old and I would follow them off a cliff.

BTS HUMBLE HEARTS MAKES THEM RICH. THEY LOVE HIP-HOP AND R&B FROM THE HEARTS AND IT SHOWS. WHILE OTHERS KEEP A SOUR POUT, THEY HAVE BECOME WELL ROUNDED, EDCUATED GLOBAL LEGENDS THAT KEEPS SOARING ABOVE THE CLOUDS. IF IT WASN'T FOR THEM DOING COLLABORATIONS WITH OTHERS, MY SPOTIFY ACCOUNT WOULD NOT INCLUDE OTHER TALENTS. THANK YOU BTS for being genuine you.

Well she wouldn't colab with someone she didn't respect its says a lot about RM that she wanted to colab with him. Same goes of all those who respect and stand up for BTS like Halsey, Coldplay and many others.

Have always said I will never discredit 1st 2nd gen K-pop they paved the way for music in Korea but BTS paved the way globally they created their own narrative they took the negative they received from their own country and peers and changed the whole industry no matter if you are Army or not at least 80% of global K-pop fans found out about K-pop through BTS

People saying Kpop was a thing in Asian Country before BTS, Okay listen up, I grew up in southern Part of Asia,(Nepal, India, bangladesh. etc) In our part we had bollywood from India very popular and also our own music industry in our own language. KPOP was seen as a very weird thing, like only very few teen girls knew kpop, like maybe 1 in thousands, It was not at a topic. The first korean thing that came in was the drama Boys before Flower, I remeber buying CD to watch it as a young female.
But there was no k music or kpop whatsoever, As far as I remember, Kpop started being a topic in my country after BTS, the first song I heard was dope, I started casually listening to their music without knowing them or their names. Around 2016 I moved to Australia and after 2017, I saw my friends and my own family(siblings) get into BTS. Like they started telling me about this group and how popular this thing have become back home in one year.
I seriously satrated listening to BTS after that point, reading lyrics as it was very imporatnt for me. I had never stanned any artists prior to that but I got into the rabbit hole of BTS and got to know about kpop.
It was around 2016/2017 when kpop started to become a topic in my part of world as well, So people saying Kpop was huge in Asia before BTS may not realize that ASIA is a big Continents and has more countries than Japan, Korea, thailand,Vietnam and The Philippines,
BTS also introduced KPOP to the other part of ASIA, countries like INDIA, Nepal, Saudi Arabia and many more.
I am tired of people thinking Kpop was big in Asia before BTS and excluding a whole part of Asia.

Yeah I grew up with Bollywood and British Bhangra music (Music in the Bollywood style sung in Punjabi made in South London) here in the UK and not Kpop.

When she says Psy was a one-hit-wonder she means the general public like me thought he was, before getting into BTS I knew little to nothing about K pop and I fell for BTS in early 2020 and I remembered the song I vaguely knew he was from South Korea I bet there are plenty who didn't know

I saw numerous reactors who reacted to That That and would say it was good that PSY came back to making music after Gangnam Style. Little did they know he never stopped making music after Gangnam Style.

Food for thought. BTS is to KPOP as the Jackson 5 is to Motown's "The Factory". Berry Gordy developed a system that groomed talent with dancing, singing, writing, and producers. Every genre of music has sprinkles of the music made before them. We should just appreciate the great music being produced. KPop. KJazz. KSoul.

I agree with it all, when I have been a BTS fan since 2013. People never cared or even thought of checking what KPOP was. But free BTS winning it was radios and all it continued for years with that other KPOP groups came to light now KPOP is very known
