I forgot to mention that I use a bit of the liquid version when I am soaking seeds. The calcium gives them a solid boost for busting out of their shells.
Great way to use egg shells 🇳🇿
I'm hoping to give all of those cocoons that went into the old box a good boost.
In five years of soil remediation projects, I've never seen test results show low calcium. For plant nutrition, there's no benefit to having more than enough. If you have a problem with drainage, baked/finely crushed eggshells will help a little.
Even if it is present it doesn't mean that it is in plant-soluable form. My personal experience has been that I get better fruiting from tomatoes and cucumbers if I add calcium. Particularly the foliar spray. If you have links to your projects I'd like to check them out. I'm always curious and supporative of remediation projects. Good on you.
wonderful, that seed soak with calcium is😇actually dear, calcium is hardly ever overdone. calcium is a growth nutrient. when used (as against nitrogen) it produces same amount of growth that nitrogen gives but a far more healthy one - indicated by shorter internodes vs. the lanky growth when you push with nitrogen
Interesting. I'm soaking a few seeds, tomato, cucumber, and beets, today. I can't believe that we are starting our 2024 gardens. 2024!!!! Crazy. Time flies. Thanks for sharing.
I had wondered about vinegar to extract calcium. How much do you dilute the solution to apply as foiliar spray?
The ratio is 1:10 when combining the eggshells with the vinegar. Then, for application, the ratio is 1:1000. If it's a small garden, for 1/2 gallon use1/3 teaspoon. For a gallon it's 3/4 teaspoon. I generally mix a gallon. In metric it would be 2 liters to 2ml or 4L to 4ml. The metric water # is a bit low but , that's very close.
