It isn't just things like that, it's also things like snow build up on LED headlights, because they don't get the headlight covers warm enough to melt it.. They don't seem to test a lot of these features or think about the potential downsides. Part of the reason my two cars are a 2005 and a 2008 :)
@@TechTravel-up2cx My 2017 Infiniti does have LEDs all round but I have always cleared snow, ice and frost off of them whilst clearing my windows in the morning. It's not rocket science but so many people will not do this simple thing!
The anti-collision warning light kept coming on on my Transit. Wasn't even snow, just filth thrown up from the vehicles in front. Hadn't a clue what it was before I could look in my hand book.
Yeah mine has anti collision sensors on the front paired with the onboard camera & it fails when it get dirt or very heavy rain on it !...Very annoying !!...Technology isn't full proof !!
We have the same car and the same happened the same evening with the very heavy snow falling and realised what was causing it straight away, it’s a same they don’t offer sensor heating to help prevent it. I hate driving without cruise so switched to none adaptive cruise to complete the journey. I have seen the comment about that you should not use cruise in bad conditions, still safe as auto switches off if traction is lost and helps keep my licence free of speeding points. Don’t like speed limiter option.
Thanks for your comment. I hadn't noticed a non-adaptive cruise control on mine. I'll have to take a closer look, or search the manual. 😲 However, I'm not sure I'd use it. I'm not keen on cruise in slippy conditions. I once witnessed it getting upset when the car aquaplaned on the M60 around manchester and it was very disconcerting. The automation only reacts after it detects something, sometimes (certainly not always) we humans can anticipate issues before the car detects stuff.
I recently bought an i20 3 year old, has some features my old 2012 207 car didn't have e.g. cruise, auto windscreen wipers, etc.. Nice to now, however couple of things. 1. you shouldn't use cruise control in bad weather be it snow or rain, as you said it's unpredictable, icy road, heavy rain etc. 2. When you clear snow off the car, you should also do the bonnet & roof. If snow blows off the roof it could go onto the windscreen of the car behind, drop in front of their tyre causing them to skid etc, if it blows off the bonnet, it can go onto your windscreen and block your view. Not sure if you did the roof or not, but dashcam clearly showed snow on the bonnet. If that snow was melting and going down the front over your sensors the conditions and movement could cause it to freeze blocking your sensor. Don't trust tech, much more can go wrong these days. Drive safe, hope you enjoyed your meal :)
All good points. I didn't clear the bonnet and roof because I couldn't find my scraper (and it was really cold) when we came out of the pub, but normally, I would make a bit more of an effort. Meal was good thanks. It was more a case of catching up with a friend after a good while, rather than gourmet meal though. ;-)
I drive a Merc Actros HGV, even rain can turn off it's adaptive cruise control with a warning that the sensor is 'dirty', a rain drop on the wingmirror cameras turns the screen into a Kaliedoscope, direct sun on them white outs the screen, most led headlights behind me flash on the screen so no clue if theyre flashing to let me out or not, and most cars in the distance look like police with their lights on. Tech is too ott right now like theyre putting it in just for the sake of it.
Wingmirror cameras - Wow! I'm not sure I'd get used to those. It's so useful being able to move one's head and change what you can see in traditional mirrors. Although, I am aware that vans and lorries tend to have much bigger mirrors, so that's less of an issue normally. I guess the camera mirrors have a wide(ish) angle of view - when there's not any rain on the lens. What do you do when rain gets on them? Do you have to stop and clean them?
Just got a 3 year old Vitara. This happened yesterday, when it was around freezing, but virtually no snow. I hope I don't have to put up with this kind of stupid over-sensitive gismo late this winter!
I don't think it always happens. I've been through two winters with this e-Niro, and this is the first time it's happened to me. I think it was a mix of driving a reasonable distance into the snow that was coming down, plus the specific temperature and time etc.
I'm sorry to hear that. I know that I've read somewhere (possibly the owner's guide) that we shouldn't use a high pressure jet wash on the sensor - I guess there's a risk of damage or something.
I believe you're missing the point. The meal wasn't the point of the video (or the meet-up). I was meeting a friend, whom I'd not seen for many months and a meal was incidental. He couldn't travel, so I did.

So for the couple of snowy days a year you think it’s better to have crap headlights? Incredible?
I don't think headlights back in 2005 and 2008 were crap now, were they?
My e-Niro doesn't have LED headlights, as it happens.

Same with my Hyundai Tucson, heavy rain shuts down all the collision and lane departure systems.

How will autonomous cars deal with extreme weather? The answer is that they will default to a safety mode - which is that they will sit and wait....
Good question. I guess time will tell, but I suspect that current technology isn't up to the job.

Don't people read their handbook that comes with the car? if you don't have one they are on ebay.
I've read bits of mine, but I'm sure most people these days don't even open it.
Mine has failed bleeping like mad cant correct it ..into kia to fix 2yrs old not back yet after 2wks

One and a half hours driving just for a meal, no wonder they are trying to stop us using our vehicles to cut down on our carbon footprint.

Undoubtedly.
