I came here because my friend brought this up yesterday while we were hanging out and we got into a debate about it. I argued it couldn't be possible that Chris-Chan made the first Let's Play uploaded to the internet because logically there had to have been at least like hundreds of instances of people between the time the first video-sharing website was created (ShareYourWorld in 1997) and the time that Chris-Chan made their Let's Play of Animal Crossing (late 2003) who also filmed themselves playing a video game (that was commentary rather than a walkthrough) and then uploaded it to the internet. There couldn't have been that much of a wait before someone out there in the world wide web eventually uploaded a Let's Play predating Chris Chan. ShareYourWorld was, of course, shut down in 2001 due to bandwidth and budgeting issues and there are scant mentions of it online, so any true "first" uploaded Let's Play has likely been lost to time for decades. I told my friend that Chris-Chan is only considered the first because they just so happen to be one of the most documented people in human history, so of course any and all videos they've made are preserved, including a coincidental screen recording of Animal Crossing. First (preserved) Let's Play in terms of chronological upload date? Maybe. First Let's Play? Not likely. But I'm gonna use that fun Christory fact anyway to freak out people in the future, as my friend did with me. In her words: "You're just in denial Chris-Chan invented the Let's Play."
Smh, people always trying to take things away from Chris Chan and her achievements. Speaking of achievements, this video was fucking good. I certainly wasn't expecting a kind of video like this from you, (after all the memes) but I'm pleasantly surprised. You had really clear delivery and the pacing was perfect IMO. Looking forward to seeing whatever else you throw at the wall.
Thanks I appreciate the nice feedback! I just made the memes/shitposts since I was trying to learn Premiere Pro this Summer and those were just short vids I could make fairly quickly. I’m getting better with editing(but I still need to work on how I handle audio). I’ll make more memes and vids like this one in the future, but tbh I’m just gonna upload whatever I feel like would make a good/interesting video
I stumbled across this factoid recently and found your video from looking it up. Good job on it, I just have a few follow-up questions. First, are there really no any earlier instances of someone doing their own Let’s Play? Of course, 2003 was before TH-cam, and I imagine it would have been harder to share videos on the internet due to slower download speeds, but were there any reports in magazines or on television? I suppose someone could have done it earlier and not uploaded it to the internet, and the only reason we have this one is because of how documented Chris-Chan is as an individual. And also, do we know if this may have influenced anyone to make their own Let’s Plays? I suppose even if it didn’t, it could still be the first Let’s Play (like how Louis Le Prince invented the first video camera but did not influence subsequent video cameras that were invented independently), but if it did have an influence, this would be easier to prove that it was the first Let’s Play
Dude I love this this is amazing I love it very good its amazing I'm so pleased it's great I loved the content it's so good and interesting I would definitely recommend it's very good I'm very happy
@@EpicGamerDan and thank you for taking time out of your day to respond to me this is amazing thank you so much im so grateful for this thank you for responding so much thank you epic gamer dan this is awesome I feel so loved as a fan thank you so much it is great when creators respond to their fans thank you so much I feel so loved thank you
What do you think is not true about it? I set up my argument, and to say it’s not true without any reasoning doesn’t make a lot of sense. Like what specifically do you not think is true?
@Punished Nick Name no no, he is right, Chris Chan is not the first let's player, he just uploaded low quality Animal Crossing gameplay videos. The real first let's players are Proton Jon and Chuggaaconroy, and that is a fact.
because people been recorded themselves playing since the 80's, and i know you a zoomer but let me ahock you, recording softwares and microphones existed since the early 2000's and even before, you just emberessed yourself with this video, people been doing that much earlier then 2003 @@EpicGamerDan

So I wasn't crazy for thinking Chris Chan was the first Let's Player the whole time.
Man, this is some great stuff, I hope this video gets more traction
Thanks I appreciate it a lot! Plan on making some more content like this in the future, but only time will tell.
welp, the first lets player is arrested now

Rewatched the documentary and got interested again as well, very well made and you definitely earned a sub!
Thanks a ton, glad you enjoyed the video :)
great edited dude :)
Thank you!
Thanks for this video! Chris will always be the True first let's-player.
I agree 100%. Any let’s play made after “Chris Chan’s Animal Crossing Documentary” is just a mere knockoff. Chris is the OG Let’s player
Came here from the r/ChrisChanSonichu subreddit. Really good stuff 👌
Thanks for the compliment! I appreciate it
No matter how bad Chris-Chan is as a person and no matter what they've done, they're still always going to be the first let's player.
Holy shit, this is great
Ah yes, chris "doin my mom" chandler

The earliest instance I know was Paddy Kroetz in 1993 apparently

Real
nonsensical title, people recorded video games since the 80's
This is just not true
