Problem with the black connector with blue pen strip is that on my car it is attached to the cylinder by a cable tie. When the cylinder operates the cylinder moves relative to the bracket it is attached to. The black plug doesn't seem to lock, so that it is possible for it to catch on the bracket and get pulled out. So i super glued it shut and cable tied it clear of the bracket.
The BMW replacement doesn't have the connector, it is one piece.

So i solved my problem, replaced the two salmon coloured relays next to the roof pump in boot. Interestingly my Foxwell code reader told me i had several faulty sensors, which was not true.
In the video above the one sensor tells the system the boot is up and the other sensor (called interrupter)pauses the boot on closing so it doesn't slam.
A break in any sensor wire will result in lost continuity and cause the roof to freeze.

Awesome thanks for that. i will probably buy a few of those relays myself and see if it resolves my issue. Will do a video once I get that done.

Good afternoon, I have a fault 00A6A5, Z4 E89 2013. I don't know what to do anymore, could you help me. Brazil

You could try the module or check if there are any cable issues as some cables may get damaged, as i had that in another fault where the cable actually snapped due to bending again and again was an issue with the roof design.

This is interesting because i posted on the Z forum the problem i had with the connector with the blue paint on. It came lose and roof stopped, so i reconnected and fastened with cable tie to cylinder. All good.
But my roof has failed again with roof in boot. The boot will rise and fall, but not the roof pack.
Just waiting on a code reader to find out where problem is.
Disconnecting is breaking the continuity check, so roof will stop.
In the mean time i bought a 2nd hand cylinder with hall switches from a Mitsubishi car, but they are all the same. I opened up the switch and they have about £1 worth of parts in them. BMW want £170 for the item.
But can't see why they go bad, but the cases do seem to crack.

Problem now solved see other post.

So did you roof have a similar issue to mine or was it a different issue?

@@BHP_Life If you unplug the Hall switches it will freeze due lack of continuity. The Hall to the rear tells the system the boot is up, for the roof to fold in boot space. The forward sensor tells the boot to pause save it crashing down. The even more forward mechanical switch tells the system the boot is locked, so roof can fold the rear window cowl down.

I had the roof impaired movement fault after closing the hard top & all the windows are stuck & I cant close them or do nothing even the boot doesn’t open at all
My windows are open, how can I fix this if you have an idea ?
    Thank you

try pressing the close button again after a few seconds again and holding it there.
      that sometimes does the trick.
once you get the boot open have a look and see if theres anything in there that could be restricting the roof movement make sure the sides and tray are clear as well.

If you can't open the boot. Normally the roof is.actually not locked down at all. Wait 24hrs til the hydraulics loses pressure. You could slowly push the back glass section up little by little. Then put a box under it so you can easily check either sides microswitch connections. There is video on TH-cam about it. Most likely you have either the left or right switch broken or the wire has broken.

Spending money on a BMW as it ages is an unfortunate aspect of owning one which is a shame. They are not reliable once they get older ~5 years +. Lexus can build reliable cars and are looking cool as well these days so why can't BMW! Answer, engineering in BMW's far more complicated than it needs to be thus leading to reliability issues later on. BTW, I had one of these cars (Z4 E89 3.0) and they are fantastic, I just didn't want the many repairs bills coming my way once it got older so it went after 5 years of ownership.

Fair enough.. I love mine so will keep it for a while and slowly upgrade parts keeping it new everytime I upgrade bits.
